PS5 : The Future Of Gaming. NeoGAF Viewing Thread. June 11th 1PM PDT/ 9PM BST

Lol. Every fucking launch. Seriously. Every launch.

hype threads, completely unrealistic expectations. People expecting 50 AAA+ games to be shown immediately and ready to play.

universal hate for the design, whatever it is.

If they don't show the console allowing time travel. Meh.

that looked pretty decent esp for early.

btw. The 4K trailers are something else.

Maybe just my eyes, but driveclub looks better
I think Drive Club does really nice environments and effects and cars look good too. GT has great lighting and seems to feel more natural to me. Of course both have their positives and negatives. Both look good though, there's no arguing that.

I miss good looking consoles. Or decent ones, my god that shit looks like a alienware tower. I guess the last good looking console was the X. ds remaster seems unispired but I'll forgive them if they give us 60fps BB... Eh, I have a huge backlog at the moment so I'm fine with this sort meh next gen launch.

The ps1/2 launch was great and it got nothing but love.

I think RDNA2 is partially to blame. What I mean by that is that these consoles APUs probably produce more heat than the ones in the previous generation. That made these manufacturers come up with new designs to handle the heat.

That's my guess anyways based off how the XSX and PS5 are built.

it's sad, cause this was a blowout, Ratchet, Spiderman, GT, Horizon, free GTA, Free Astrobot, Project Athia, Kena, RE8, Demon's Souls....what do you WANT people.

I can't understand.
For starters, for them to stop unrealistic hyping a console. Games were good, but "future of gaming"? Nah. Same games as always with better graphics and some new gimmicks.

Oh absolutely. They have completely given up on consoles and are making budget (bang for your buck) towers. RIP TV stands lol. But hey if it fixes their heat issues, great!

I guess it's just a difference of opinion. But most of the narrative driven games have been so-so in my opinion. Uncharted 4... eh... Days Gone... ehhh... Infamous: SS... ehhh.... Horizon.. good with an asterix... GoW... good, Spiderman... okay. There's so many of third person adventure games that feel overall stale and boring. Some are just disappointing, others are good, but rarely inspiring. Oversaturation has really hit it and while I like story-driven games, they overall feel like derivatives of established third party franchises and they're often not narratively interesting. Gameplay-wise they're a mixed bag as well, with some really good, others boringly set-up. Sony's strength has been the diversity of games, having a wide range of first party games in different genres, not their third person narrative games.
Again, that might be my taste. But "okay games" is not what sells me on a console. "Next-gen experience" is what sells me before that. Of course, with Demon's Souls (remake?) I'm almost definitely going to buy it. That's because that's one of the few games that have been Sony striking gold. Like they also did with a lot of other late gen games in the PS3 era, like TLoU.

Yeah it's just different tastes. I loved most of the games you listed. Skipped Days Gone though. PS4 has among my favorite library of exclusives of any console and I've been gaming since Atari 5200.

I was disappointed to be honest. The Ratchet and clank instant loading was cool through different environments. I think the starting with GTA 5 set the tone really bad choice. Guess what? next gen is the same as last gen, only better graphics. I will still preorder it but the only exclusive stuff I am interested in was Demon Souls, Horizon maybe Kena. There were a couple of others but it just lacked something. Really disliked the console design as well.
Super Pumped for RE VIII, death loop, and Tokyo ghost But will buy on Xbox.

But who sets these expectations? Didn't Sony talk about a launch lineup that truly shows a generational leap? I am confident they look gorgeous live, but outside of that, there were very few details there that felt next gen.
Also, I was hoping for a hands on demo of Spider-Man 2 or Horizon 2. I believe that what they showed was gameplay, but I want to see how it feels to play the game. More "gameplay" was shown in the UE5 trailer than for any single game in this presentation.

Ratchet, spiderman, HZD2, re8 all looked good... though I think I missed the part where they specified that any of these were even launch games?

I saw some "holiday 2020" dates but not many... some said 2021. HZD2 didnt even give a date which I guess means it isn't a launch title.

And as far as hzd goes was that even in engine? Looked like cgi trailer but then again so did hellblade 2 at first so who knows.

They really didn't handle this show any better than MS did though they definitely had better 3rd party games to show!

PS5 looks very futuristic and sexy when it's sitting down, it looks like a fucking router when it's on a stand, I have no idea why Sony showed it like that.
Remember to never buy a launch system.
I got a launch PS4 which worked perfectly until I got a launch Pro which works perfectly to this day. I bought the PS3 in its first 6 months and that worked perfectly until I traded it in for a slim. Then again I keep my consoles out in the open and never have 4+ hour sessions. They sit on top of a stool next to the stand so clear venting out the back and a room that stays pretty cool.

Yeah, show wasn't really any more impressive than xbox's. Just a bunch of games that look like upgraded versions of present-gen consoles, and even the more impressive ones like HZD2 didn't had any gameplay shown.

were you watching the stream in 4K on a 4Kmonitor/TV?

Overall a strong show IMO, but where the hell did Silent Hill go? I was really hoping for more raw gameplay and some dates tho, which games will be launch titles here? We still don't know and it seems about time we did.
Also, lol @ people bitching about female leads :messenger_tears_of_joy: how does that even matter? Oh yeah I forgot it's the woke agenda attacking.

Stoked for the next generation. Just imagine how the next God of war is gonna look like.

They started off with 3 next gen AAA exclusives. Then had horizon and that space game and sackboy. Plus a lot of newly revealed third party. Plus they saved the console reveal and some peripherals . Not sure how this can compare to that half hour no exclusive Xbox showcase

So finally what i said is True while everyone expected the Second coming of Jesus Sony PS5 was more of a backstabbing Judas I was Flamed when i said Unreal Engine 5 is a DevKit Demo. Really the Show was awfull I was thinking" PS4 games with better resolution. God the Most Hated game was Gran Turisimo. even in Boxing Car after 15 years you see damage. From GRan Turisimo 1 till now no damage to the cars. And the rest looked PS4 and PC ish. So all you Sony Heritics must be happy. If Microsoft plays smart this time it van have 45 percent of the Market then Sony's PS5 Router

I just meant the format and clarity of information provided... nothing was noted as exclusive or launch title or anything like that so people get excited about picking up their console at launch.

As far as game showings you can't really compare this one with Microsoft's because MS put all the small stuff out first and held back everything big for July. Sony kind of mixed everything together all in one go which made for a nice long showing bit none of the games were really mind blowing.

Before the show started I told my wife "watch, theyre either going to open with spiderman, ratchet, or gran turismo..." and they pretty much did just in that order which was sorta crazy haha

It wasn't perfect by any means but Sony's conference was the clear winner.

I have to imagine that Sony held some of their stuff back. With the game of chicken that they are playing with Microsoft, there's no way they don't have something up their sleeve in response to the Halo reveal.

I was blown away by that 3 punch and then surprised by a number of titles like new sackboy and that space combat one. I don't even recall a console reveal with so many games I'm gonna buy like I don't know how much more people can actually expect. I don't even have time play what was shown lol

What does it matter if stream wasn't even 4k in the first place? And in case you're wondering, yeah, i did watch the 4k trailers afterwards, still not too impressed by much, at the very least it nothing that looked much better than stuff i had already seen before.

PS5 looks pretty cool TBH, and I'm sure there are going to be many more awesome games announced/showcased come 2021.

Gotta say the PS4 reveal was vastly superior, I saw games where I actually thought wow, that's new stuff I can see wasn't possible on PS3. Here, I felt everything I saw could have been done on PS4.

They made the same mistake as MS, showed artsy & indie games on next gen reveal, not enough gameplay.
Marketed as a PS5 conference but it was only a game reel

There is clearly games that are not possible on ps4. Ratchet is not possible, horizon neither. I want to play that new oddworld. I liked it a lot. I will buy it when ratchet launches. It looked like something we have not seen before. The design looks good.

this launch is packed with games i really want to play. From everything was shown i will pick 4 games until the next batch of good games land on ps5.

Conference overall 7/10 but felt a bit disappointed as we never had Mark Cerny even show up let alone talk, what happened to silent hills?

Watching these in 4K is wow indeed, but the stream failed that capture a KZ shadow fall moment.

Now it works! Looks better in black!

Batmobile?

Lol

It wasn't bad, but I never got the impression that any of these games couldn't be done on existing hardware. I loved Horizon 2, Resident Evil, and Demon's Souls along with new stuff like Returnal from Housemarque (Housemarque are gods), Kena, Solar Ash and Little Devil Inside (which evokes memories of Viva Piñata to me for some reason).

On the downside, I hate the controller color; it's gonna be filthy. I also hate the design of the console -- other people have said router, and it does look like one. Spiderman looked more like Second Son, Ratchet looks ok, I'm tired of Gran Turismo, Goodbye Volcano High looked dumb, Godfall might've looked okay if they hadn't blared garbage rap through the entire video, and I think releasing an all digital sku is a huge mistake. I love that we're getting a new Oddworld game, but it looked like it belonged on a PS4.

I dunno, they have to sell what is likely going to be a $500 machine and I don't think they did that with what's been shown. I think they've definitely shown a lot of games, but I just didn't feel compelled to run out and buy one.

Wait what happened to showcasing 3d audio for everyone at home? Didn't they tell us to all use use headphones so we could experience the effect as intended? I thought there was going to be a segment for it.

I'm amazed by how people are more impressed by the CGI trailer of Horizon than the gameplay trailer of R&C... I mean, you literally saw nothing of Horizon but a lot of crazy stuff like GI, lots of hi-poly models all over the place, RT, etc from R&C... WTF?

So you get a system every 3 years (I assume) and you are happy they lasted that long? I guess that's what people nowadays find durable. But what if I don't want to worry about the launch system and not trade shit? I could just wait a year or for a new revision with another chip that doesn't melt?

Right, anyway people take care of their systems and even then they fail. Launch systems ALWAYS seem to have issues since the 360 days. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it didn't to others. Though to be fair the ps4 had a small number of defects outside the WHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sounds due to Sony's infamously bad thermal paste application.

Never had any issues with my PS3 or PS4.
I've used mine enough that withing 2 years or so I've had to open it and fix something wrong with it. (ps3 slim/fat)
My ps4 died and my pro is loud AF.

4K trailers look really impressive, though not much shown in the way of 1st party, which was the same for Microsoft.

Are both companies holding back until later down the line? Because I wouldn't be surprised if all development is 3-4 months behind schedule due to Covid
