That 16 million figure is an estimate from December 2016. Microsoft has never released lifetime sales of the franchise, but announced it had sold over $1bn in retail sales, and mentioned 14 million unique players across PC and Xbox One by Dec 2016. The general conjecture has been to use the $1+bn to estimate around 16 million sales by Dec 2016.

Since then, they released FH4 (Steamdb estimates 8.5M on PC alone) and now FH5 that's probably pushing 10M in total.

Big miss for me is them not having a FH5 port for Switch 2 ready to go. Undoubtedly sell a million+ copies since there's no real competition, and would allow them build up mindshare for FH6 on Switch 2.

That's an odd choice. Having moved primarily to PS5, this is the first Xbox game I would have bought at launch for full price on PlayStation. Now I'll just dust off my Series X and play for a month on Game Pass, then probably never return.

They just released FH5. Probably would have crippled sales on PS5 if FH6 was coming by that quickly.

That number you are citing is not even close to accurate. For example, one google search shows that Forza as a franchise sold 16m copies as of April 2021 (before FH5 and FM8)

That estimate is actually dated for Dec 2016, so doesn't include FH4 and has incomplete data for FH3.

Do the simple research to look at the post Aril 2021 numbers and you will see you have to add 10mil for FH5 on Steam and PS5 and then you have to realize microsoft doesn't report xbox game sales and xbox pc game sales. If they give it to Plus, it will certainly easily exceed 2 million active users.

35 million users have already paid for Forza Horizon, and suddenly, 1 million downloading it at launch to open it and look at the menu is a victory.

Not for a huge number of PC gamers, only ones with great hardware.

The Forza Horizon games are super well optimized on PC. Even low end hardware can 60fps them with good settings.

And lets not hyperbole everything ok. My 3070 is barely mid range these days and its way more powerful than the consoles, the base consoles anyway.
The 4060 is the most popular gpu on Steam, and its more powerful than the consoles.
