PSN Content 09/06/07 (Stranglehold & NBA Live demos, Motorstorm & NG Sigma DLC)

My Stranglehold demo 360/PS3 comparison in a nutshell.

- PS3 Version looked a tiny bit better for some reason (maybe HDMI vs. Component or locked framerate)

- 360 version sounded better

- Games play identically, had no problems with controls on either after some tweaking, although I generally prefer the 360 pad for these types of games.

Verdict: It's so close, I'll buy whichever version hits $20 first.

Can anyone confirm or disconfirm that the Coyote Revenge VIP pack downloaded from the US Store wil work with a Euro copy of Motorstorm?

I'm tempted to get the MotorStorm add-on pack. However, part of me is still waiting for them to patch the vehicle selection screen so that you can choose to use icon mode (like when you participate the mixed vehicles race) before I give them more money for the game. C'mon it can't be that hard. The load time really kills the game.

Haven't tried Stranglehold demo on PS3 (tried it on 360. No, i wont start a comparison post), but the NBA demo looked good. I love the game/menu interaction. I was hitting 3-pointers and screaming BALLIN'!

remember how I was bitching about downloads not continuing while you watch movies?

well, now they don't continue when I play games/fold.

I'M SORRY SONY! PLEASE REMOVE THIS CURSE, I TAKE BACK MY COMPLAINTS! :(

In almost all cases, DLC has not worked with a different region's disc.

Wow.

Stranglehold is awful.

Awfully generic.

I reckon John Woo should focus on fishing his movie career out of the toilet before embarking on gaming endeavors.

"Confirm or deny" is an easier way of putting it, once you pass ESL.

Wait, I thought they weren't supposed to continue during games and folding.

Oh yeah, also tried the NBA Live 08 Demo. Haven't played a console basketball in years, heck I don't even watch the sport now but I had a lot of fun with this. The presentation is exceptional.

As a "basketball game noob" I can't really comment on how good the mechanics are compared to anything else but it felt good and I liked the dribbling controls. Not so sure how the hot spot thing works in multiplayer, but I guess it helps noobs like me easily tell where the best place to shoot is for the player where I guess the fans already know.

Also, is there a trick to shooting or do you just press the button? I remember in old basketball games you had to hold the shoot button and release it at the top of your jump. I thought being in the red would almost guarantee a basket but I missed quite a few with LeBron James.

Anyway, think I'll try it again :D

I hope they change the damn XMB splash screen on the retail ver of Stranglehold, as what they have on the demo looks half assed. That's a pet ppeve of mine :)

I thought it was pretty funny - my background is of me and my gf at a park and all of a sudden this huge asian dude pops in the middle between us. :lol

:lol that's awesome.

I'm a firm believer that the "splash screens" in the XMB should have no sound. Or at least, give me an option to turn off the sound on game icons in the XMB. I hate that stuff and I'm always having to shuffle the way the system lists the games to avoid certain cringe inducing sounds (Puzzle Fighter being the latest culprit).

The Stranglehold PS3 demo is pretty nice. I give these guys props for essentially releasing two identical versions of the game. It's nice to have a game where you could easily select either version without fear.

I'm curious, though, was Turok PS3 the recent trade show in Germany? I believe it was noted that both versions would be there and it is also a UE3 title. How is that shaping up on each machine?

I don't mind sound on the splash screen for an actual Blu-ray game...but it is annoying having it in all of those demos and downloadable games.

Maybe after I finish the game or if after all 3 packs come out, it's cheaper.
That's what's stopping me. I'm on Ch 14 normal trying to do an all karma run. I don't even know if buying it will unlock mission mode for me.

I need to try both first, but if this holds true it looks like I'll be getting Hard Boiled.
or "whichever version hits $20 first"

I'm a firm believer that splash screens in the XMB should have music like Warhawk or Oblivion. Not too loud, but great stuff to leave on in the background.

Just finished Strangehold demo in all difficulties including Hard Boiled... Nothing special unlocked... :/

Also, the only "hidden" thing that i found was Golden Pistol... Is that the hidden thing they were talking about in the blog?

If it's an EA Sports game, you dont have to worry. No sound, no splash screen, not even a damn animated icon. They clearly put a ton of time into that stuff.

Golden pistol is strong but I hardly consider that anything "secret".

I thoroughly enjoyed the Stranglehold demo, it's straightforward and fun. Environmental destruction is awesome too. I don't know why it's getting such a bad rap from people.

Sure it doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it's the best game Midway has made in years! I may try to pick up the blue ray version.

Yeah i noticed that also, I'm real anal about my content. My movies and photo's have nice icons and consistant naming convention.

I wish you could customze the game section more :)

d00d, its cell... they need at least another year for that kind of stuff...

Don't forget, by their own statements, they only spent a month developing Madden '07.

Y'know, lazy publishers.

ok seriously the most amazine thing this week is the Resident Evil trailer. Movie looks freaking awesome.

I liked the other 2 movies. RE2 was actually a ton better than 1, I thought. Definitely interested in 3. Maybe I'll even go see it in the theatre.

I didn't finish the SH demo when it turned up on XBL, but managed to finish the PSN one. Pretty good, basically Max Payne, but not, didn't grab me like Payne did. I was on the fence about whether to buy it or not until the game reel at the end. Think thats pursuaded me, looked really good.

That's the something special they sneaked into the ps3 demo?... hmm kinda lame but its still something I guess... It wasn't really hidden either...

My impressions: Game was easy.. and looked pretty crappy... On my first run through I DID experience the 2fps problem that some people have talked about here.. but it seems like a glitch as my second run through was even more hectic than the first and I blew everything up on screen and it never dropped below acceptable levels.. but for that one hitch the first time through.. i was like WTF is this crap... (and that is coming from a PS3guy who had no problem playing oblivion at 10fps on my computer when it first released...) but this was somewhere in the realm of 2 to maybe even less than one frame update per second.. but it lasted in total maybe 10-14 seconds.. and then smooth from then on)

Game reminds me alot of Dead to Rights and Max Payne.. and even though those games never were for me... I still enjoyed the game.. and Was HIGHLY impressed by the destructibility of the game... It takes many strides in the right direction..

all in all.. i have decided that I will probably gamefly this when it comes out... not buy it.

so apparently nba live '08 is quite a bit better on 360? at least the demo is. truth or fiction?

Supposedly the PS3 version is more aliased.

I just played it twice through and didn't notice any glaring alias or frame rate problems.

Fifa Demo on 13th Sept

It has been announced on the FIFA Forums today that the demo for FIFA 08 will hit Xbox Live and the Playstation 3 stores on the 13th September, here is a quote from the forums.

"Great news!

I wanted to update you with the official release date of both PS3 and Xbox 360 demos on Sony Network and Marketplace.

Both demos are now set for release on Sept 13"

It will be nice to have some next gen football action gracing our consoles so soon

The only time i noticed framerate problems is between quarters. I haven't noticed any aliasing issues though.

Eh, it's slightly better on 360. There's a few more jaggies on, say, the stairs or the basketball hoop, but they're barely noticeable. From some of the comments here I thought my eyes would be bleeding, but the difference is negligible at best.

I love the Stranglehold demo. There are games I absolutly love because of the extra thought I have to put into them and there are games I love because of the lack of thought I have to put into them. STranglehold is the perfect example of the latter. I can't wait to get some multiplayer action in, looks like a blast.

Favorite move I did so far: If you never let of of fire, you wont stand up after a dive. Its great to miss someone while diving and blow thier shins under a table after hitting the floor.

There was one minor slowdown in the beginning when I was in the air and aiming down at some dudes. Other than that, it was really smooth.

Holy balls, do I suck at this game. :lol

maybe...I've honestly played the demo at least a dozen times now...and have still not found anything
I heard someone talking about two submachine guns in the demo. Right when you see the guy in the golden suit for the first time (right before the end of the demo) you should see a wooden panel to the left next to the scaffolding. There are two submachine guns hidden there, but I haven't found the time to find out whether it's true or not.

It is supposed to continue during PS3 format games, as long as you are not playing a multiplayer online.
