PSP Custom Firmware Thread

How much is a near-mint PSP-2000 with custom firmware worth these days?

In what currency ?
Since the price of new PSP 3000 is now 130$, a PSP-2000 even with CFW should not be worth more than 70-80$ at most.
In euros ? 90 euros max.

Damn sad to hear about both TN-D and Pro not supporting Pops. I have a hacked 2000 as well. How's the compatibility rate for PS1 games on the 2000? Also which firmware would you go with? I think I have that m33 something one.

I want to play Final Fantasy Origins damn it! FF2 on FF Origins does not work on the PS3!!

The 2000 has real custom firmware which supports Popsloader. You pretty much get 100% compatibility because you can just switch to a different version of Pops to get passed any issues. Different games run better on different Pops.

Is 6.35 Pro-B2 worth upgrading to from Pro-B?
Also, what's this VSH thing? Do I really need it?

Pro-B2 lets you resume paused PS1 games, which is pretty handy. I say just go for it because it would only take a minute to do. Full changelog:

http://www.psp-hacks.com/2011/03/04/psp-cfw-6-35-pro-b2-released/

VSH menu is accessed by pressing the select button at the XMB. It lets you do things like change the PSP clock speed and enable USB charging at all times.

Ooh, is this safe to do? Pretty nifty since it only charges at all times with the official adapter.

I'm a bit confused with the original Pro-B install it had a folder with the eboot along with like 10 .prx files (I think these are plugins?). However with the Pro-B2, there's only one eboot? Is this some kind of upgrade file? Am I supposed to replace the Pro-B eboot with the B2 eboot and keep all the other plugin files? Do I need to run the Pro-B2 eboot while I'm running Pro-B or do I run it from OFW? Thanks!

Legit PSN PSone classics works without TN HEN D. you know my point.

Wow you should get banned for asking this. The only way you should be using the CFW is ripping your own PS1 discs or buying the PS1 classics from PSN. I mean RE2 is 2.99 and Vagrant story just recently released at $5.99, how cheap can you be. I hate pirates.

Yes, it's just an upgrade. Run Pro-B first (the eboot + all the .prx files in one folder), and then run Pro-B2 afterwards. Don't replace anything. It's a good idea to keep all these on the memory stick in case they need to be re-applied later.

Oh yeah, that's definitely how EVERYONE uses it. Don't act so surprised and crazed.

Stop! Getting off track.
Let the mods deal with this.

Bummer.. I was really hoping TN-D would have better psx support.

Can anyone advise me on what CFW I should be using to upgrade my current one?

I'm sitting on Prometheus 5.50 at the moment. PSP 1000.

Haven't been keeping up with this stuff so I have no idea where to start now.

I just bought a PSP Go, it's firmware 5.70.

Should I update to 6.20 for TN-D or 6.35 for Pro-B2? I'm new to this stuff. I want to rip games and play them on the Go, and install homebrew applications.

It's up to you. There's no better firmware, they are both pretty similar but have their own little pros and cons. Just read up on both and see which one sounds better for you. Supposedly, TN firmware is better if you're more of a homebrew person, whereas Pro firmware is better for people who are more interested in playing isos than dealing with homebrew/plugins. I don't know if this remains true, but that's what I was told. Just pick one, there's no right or wrong decision.

That's where you need to stay.

Prom 5.50 does have a few problems with newer games though. G Generation World runs awful on it on a 2000 whereas if you go up to Pro 6.35 it runs properly for the most part.

I just picked up a White PSP Go to play my newer games but my 2000 will probably be playing my PS1 backups with Prommy. I don't need analogy (as my 2000's is busted) for most PS1 games so I can use it for that and steaming stuff to watch in my bedroom, heh.

So my brother just gave me his PSP-2000 with cfw 5.0 M33 on it. Is there any reason that I should be updating this firmware? Can PSP with cfw go on PSN? Thanks.

A CFW PSP can go on PSN, but you need a plugin to do it (its either PSNLover or PSNFucker, I can't remember off the top of my head).

Honestly, it really depends on what you want to use the PSP for. I play a lot of PS1 games on mine, so I upgraded to 5.50 Promethius. That will also help you to play newer games (Ys Chronicles for example runs fine under 5.50 Pro, with M33 you need to patch it).

Since you have a 2k, don't bother with the HEN CFWs unless you really want 6.20 or 6.35.

There's also a 6.37 CFW for PSP 2000. V5 was just released a few days ago and it says it supports custom PS1 games. I'm going to give a shot and see how it works.

edit
Don't bother with the 6.35 or 6.37CFW, they're still to buggy.

I'd recommend using 5.50 Gen with the Prometheus 4 patch installed. That's what I've been using and its working great for me.

Guys, i have a question about PS1 games purchased from PSN.Lets say i buy Vagrant Story from the European PSN , will i get the PAL version of VS with the ugly black borders and slower gameplay, or it doesn't matter on PSP?I know that i bought Tekken 2 on PS3 from EU PSN store and i got the PAL version :(

You'll get the 50 Hz version with black borders. I haven't bought VS yet (if I buy it, it'll be on the US store anyway), but I wasn't bothered by the PAL version of Crash Team Racing on the Store. Maybe because it was the version I played when it was originally released.

Black borders can be removed with the manual scaling option.

I too recommend sticking with 5.50 (Gen) Prome-4.
The plugin is called PSNLover. PSNFucker is an older, discontinued version of it.
I most recently used PSNLover (two weekends ago) to sign into my PSN account from my PSP and download a few months worth of DLC content that I had previously purchased with my PS3. It all went without a hitch.

Is there a way to have all games available to play from different account without changing accounts to play them? Every time I want to play a game on a different account I have to delete the one I am currently using and enter another to play the games on that account.

Is it possible to do so with a custom firmware.

I am using 6.37 on the PSP go.

What exactly is the "Fast Recovery" thing for? Is this just meant for subsequent times you need to reapply the CFW? Can I get rid of the regular updater after it's installed then?

Pretty sure the answer to both of those is yes.

Hey Gaffers I am very interested in finally picking up a PSP, but I am torn between a PSP 3000 and a PSP GO. I am most likely going to purchase one off of ebay so I don't get stuck with OFW 6.37, but I honestly don't know which model to get.

Assuming I don't care about the UMD drive, would it better to get a GO then? The biggest complaint I see against the GO is lack of UMD and that it's not as comfortable to hold as the 3000.

So please help me out here. Thanks!

Yes, get a go. More comfortable, better screen, and if you get a 16GB M2 card for cheap you have 32GB of game holding goodness.

Only thing is if you buy from ebay make sure to ask them the firmware before as the seller may have updated. On the other hand pretty sure all PSP Go's on store shelfs are still launch units so you have an almost guaranteed chance of having lower firmware version...if you can find a deal on one...

can someone tell me where I can download the latest database of cheats. I used CWCheat years ago, I am sure much has changed since then

I was thinking most stores still have GO's with a firmware below 6.37, but on the off chance that I am unlucky and get one with 6.37 how hard do you think it would be to return an opened item? For instance would Gamestop or Best Buy give me any trouble?

If it helps at all I bought a PSP Go on clearance new at Staples and it had firmware 5.70 on it, the launch firmware.

I just got a PSP3k from a friend for $20 (lol), and luckily the firmware is 5.03 (he says he never updated it once)

I want to use it mainly for PS1 games(I still have my huge library from the good ol days gathering dust) and im confused as to which firmware to use?

Some say 5.50, while others say 6.20

Halp GAF?

You're using a 3000 on 5.03, so stick with that and setup the ChickHEN CFW with prometheus. It gives you the best compatibility with everything. I'm waiting for 6.35 Pro to mature a bit more before I think about updating to it.

There are 16gb cards?

God damn it. I just bought an 8gb. :(

EDIT: Just found it on ebay for $25 less than I paid for my 8gb. /sigh. Guess I'll upgrade again soon. Is 16gb the max for the Go's mem stick?

Yeah, I think 16GB is the max. I paid $25(including shipping) on amazon for mine.

I am postive any PSPgo you get off the store shelf will NOT have 6.37. I have bought 5 PSPs, all new, and none have ever had up to date firmware. I'm sure about the return issues, but if you are going the gamestop route I would just get a used one. That way you can check first.

Is there any way to update the OP or something? We've gotten the "I have a PSP 1000/2000/3000, do I update to 6.20 TN-C/6.35 Pro-B2?" question like 10 times. Might help to just make an updated guide or something.

I didn't get any luck asking this question in the Tactics Ogre thread (which is fine cause it would make more sense to ask here). I just got the US version of Tactics Ogre and I ripped the UMD, but I'm on Prometheus 5.50, I think. Is there a patch for the US version or do I need to change firmware? Thanks in advance...

I ripped the UMD ISO, went in and deleted the install data folder, and applied the ME631 patch to it, and it seems to run fine on my 2000 with 5.00 M33-6 Prometheus 3 - I haven't played much yet, but I was able to get past the second battle where the stock ISO couldn't.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give it a try!
