PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I'm posting this question here, as opposed to inflating my ill-posted thread with replies:

1. After creating a Pandora battery (severing the contact) is it necessary for me to reconnect the contact, or can I just leave it cut?

Update to 3.90 M33? :p That was the first thing I did with my slim, everything works fine on it too.

Yeah, I did. I'm currently putting some of my fav PSX games on my PSP now. Growlanser, Summon Night, Tear Ring Saga, Dragon Quest IV. Takes forever to rip all of these discs though. :lol

Thanks for the reply, but I just got word of the Tool Battery. Fuck severing and soldering. I'll pay the $40 for the ease of it all. Then it's just custom firmware, which I'm totally new at.

So I got a question for y'all. What do I do about multidisc PSX games? Like is there something special I have to do to get it to work properly.

PrometeusPro.

Though it hasn't been updated in a while..

Hmm, yes that does look familar alright BECAUSE I WROTE THAT TUTORIAL for this thread.

Funny to see it somewhere else..

Removed it. That's a really good fuckin guide by the way. I'm using it to mod mine once my TOOL battery arrives in the mail. Props, man.

I'm on CFW 3.71 M33-4 right now and everything it's been working fine so far. I want to update to CFW 3.90 M33-3, anything I have to do after updating to the latest CFW, does the backup ISOS still working fine ?

I'm on firmware 3.80M33 with a fat-psp. I'm getting error code 80020148 when trying to boot emulators and error CA000005 with a PSX game.

Any ideas how to fix this?

edit: I have Emulators in PSP/GAME150 and the PSX game in PSP\GAME

Are you using NO UMD mode and which one if you are?
Also boot into M33 Recovery Console. go to Advanced, then Advanced Configuation and make sure the options in it are disabled.

If that doesn't work, you can format flash1 and reset settings in Advanced in M33 Recovery Menu.

PSX error is due to KEYS.BIN not being present. I would suggest ripping that PSX game again and using the guide in the OP by Mejilan.

Oops. I deleted that...

Still no luck with the emus though. I was reading about kernel 1.50, could it be that I need to install that? If so could you let me know how. THIS was far to brief for me. Having never installed or upgraded firmware yet (came with 3.80M33)

Yes you need to install 1.50 kernel addon if you have Phat PSP and want to play emu built on 1.50 kernel support.

Ok. Well the guide is just:

* Copy the files in the release to a directory called anything BUT UPDATE
* Move the UPDATE directory to /PSP/GAME/.
* Get sony 1.50 update and copy it to the root with name "150.PBP"
* Run the program and done.

1. I have the 4 files in 1.5 Add On
2. I have no update directory currently on my MS? Does this have to be done alongside a fresh update?
3. I already have a 150.pbp from a folder called M33CREATOR I backed up, is this the correct file?
4. As with point 2 it sounds like I have to be installing a new firmware and the 1.5 kernel is like an extra?

If so would I be ok to install the 3.80M33-5 with this method? My current firmware is 3.80M33 (with no -5) Would the -5 show if I was already on that?

Hope that all makes sense, it's a bit rambling...

hmm...

To update to 3.80 M33-5, download the m33-5 update file from DA. Extract the UPDATE folder and copy to PSP/GAME on your Memory Stick and then run the installer.

Rinse repeat for 1.50 kernel addon, place 150k_addon in PSP/GAME and put the 150.PBP from earlier update in root of MS (which has ISO,PSP,MUSIC,VIDEO folders)

Thanks. Once it's updated to 3.80M33-5 is it okay to remove those files from the MS and run the 1.5 add on with just the 150.pbp (ms root) and 1.5 kernel files (PSP/GAME380/150 add on) in place?

Edit: This worked fine :D Only problem is a corrupt DGEN icon now, any idea how to remove it? The Nester and Snes corrupt icons get fixed with the recovery menu setting.

You can use PrometeusPro to convert single discs just fine, but it hasn't been updated in a while and so lacks some of the more recent Popstation features like multi-disc EBOOTs and the removed requirement for the keys.bin file. I'm on a Mac and I just sidestep the issue by booting into Windows (either through Boot Camp or, like I do, from within OS X with something like Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion) and using the GUI that a few people have linked to.

Shouta said:
Oh, thanks. Anything special I need to do on the PSP though?
Nope. Just put the EBOOT that you get out of it into a folder and drop that into your 3.90 kernel folder (either GAME or GAME390, depending on your settings) on the Memory Stick.

I have a quick question about formatting my MS. I did everything in navanman's guide using TotalNewbie installer, everything went fine, but when I check the data on my memory card there are three items: the Pandora maker, Despertar del Cementario, and then a third item which is corrupted data. Did I do the format wrong?

Don't think so, just try it out.
One word of warning, if you are using this on Slim PSP, you will have no display for some unknown reason.
Just blindly press the correct button, either X or O and you should see some action.

I think that is correct.

At least, I used the same guide (with others as reference) and files (and the Datel TOOL, of course) and it also showed just those three items after the CFW install.

I still have to wait a week for my TOOL battery to arrive, but I thought I'd go ahead and put the files on the MS in advance. All I have to do is put the 3.71 M33 CFW on the stick and play the waiting game.

Oh, I thought that was because nsipl.bin had not been copied along with my install. Got lucky with the Tool there, I guess.

Ok I've decided to run custom firmware but i have no idea where to begin.

I have a phat with the most recent firmware, but i might be getting a older psp which hasn't been updated in a year.

all this talk over downgraders, pandora's battery is confusing the hell out of me. What exactly do i need to do?

If it's a game that lets you save between discs, all you need to do is give them both the same ID. Then, when it's time to change discs, save and then load the second disc and load the save file. Combining the discs into one is really only useful for games that don't let you save between discs, like Chrono Cross.

Hrm, ok. I just combined them for the games I put on there (two of the above). Kind of nice to have both in one file.

nice, shame about how there can't be zero compression on multi-disc games still. The audio stutters in MGS even at compression level 1.

It works fine under 3.71 POPS.

Edit: I'm finding it hard to write this post while drunk at 2.30am listening to Basement Jaxx

My favorite PSOne->PSP GUI converter became obsolete when DA released POPStationMD. Despite the last version being the "final" one, its creator finally released a new version that adds multi-disc support.

Yes, technically RS GUI v3 did it first, but now the best is back!

i can't find a way to add more than one image even tho i have the multi-game option enabled.

edit: oh i just knew it would be a simple solution!

Anyone got an image pack for NO ONE CAN STOP MR DOMINO? The normal site doesn't have any icons and I just scored a copy of the game for five bucks and it'd be nice to be able to have a nice pretty background and icon like I do with the rest of my psp games.
