PSP Custom Firmware Thread

There is another way, actually. Do you have the original Lumines? It can be used to downgrade firmware 3.50 to 1.5. Then from 1.5, you can install custom firmware 3.52 M33.

Here's a guide on it: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=2470

I do. Thanks, I'll give this a shot... but once I install 3.52 M33, will I be able to upgrade to that new 3.90 M33-3 hotness without the pandora battery thing as well? It looks like I can from the quote in the OP, but as I said, I'm a total newb.

Yeah, once you're on 3.52 M33, upgrade to 3.52 M33-4, then you're all set to install 3.90 M33.

Just got my tool battery in the mail today. CFW here I come.
I ordered one along with a Wii Freeloader. The freeloader came last week but the Service Tool is nowhere to be found. Tracking says the one, and only, package has been delivered.

Arg. I sent them a message but I doubt they will respond.

One last question... got it installed successfully, the directions were all pretty easy, but after it finished the install, it said I could delete the update from my memory card.

Can I delete like... everything from all the various updating and downgrading and such? The firmware is installed to the system memory now, not the memory card right?

Directories I kind of want to delete if allowed:

GAME150
HEN_350

a whole bunch of folders from my GAME directory... do I need/want to keep any of these?

Damnit I realllly want to get cfw on my psp to play Ps1...i want to buy unjammer lammy and play it so baddddd :(.

Im going to try and buy all the parts tonight so! Wish you could get the datel in stores though.

Thanks again for the help folks. Got 3.90 M33-3 installed. Ripped Metal Gear Acid 2 and Wild Arms from UMD (compressed Wild Arms into a .cso after since it saved a ton of space) and I'm now ready for my trip coming up here. The only thing left to decide is which game gets to actually be the UMD in the drive for my third game (only have a 2gig MC). I'm thinking Daxter, since I've been meaning to give it another shot.

Kind of unrelated note, Any recommended sites for picking up cool custom themes?

Alright, I haven't turned on my beloved PSP in many a months, but now it's time to fire 'er back up again since there are many games I haven't played.

Before I do, however, my PSP is painfully outdated. It's currently running 3.40 OE-A and I have no idea what's transpired in the firmware world since.

What's the route to take to get totally up to date with the latest CFW?

Links would be greatly appreciated too.

Thanks.

Its completely noob-proof way to update, fantastic bit of coding..

I started a game that lets me carry over a save. Now, just for a test, I went to the second game, and the original save isn't in the memory card manager. Do I gotta start the first game over again?

Maybe I just ought to redo the EBoot with them both in a single game.

Edit: NM, 3.90m33's Import feature worked.

i'm not exactly sure what happened but i can't get cwcheat to pop up anymore while playing psx games. any tips to get it working again? i've tried reinstalling, but no dice

Please explain what you did to fix the problem yourself.

deleted cwcheat folder from seplugins and copied it back in again

added ms0:/seplugins/cwcheat/cwcheatpops.prx to pops.txt in seplugins

one of those two fixed it. probably was the latter.

So I just put cfw on my psp, but now when I try to register it with my ps3 for remote play, it won't recognize it. Is there something I need to do or does cfw = no remote play?

As far as I remember (Dragona said something about it I think), that's the only downside.

Well, that and the inevitable pointed fingers and screaming of "pirate!".

No, I've got RP going on both of my CFW'd PSPs.

Didja try re-activating the PSP through Account Management?

So I got a Slim and tried to put CFW on it and was unsuccessful.

Using my friend's Fat PSP I tried to temporarily convert his Fat PSP Battery to a Pandora Battery and used a brand new Memory Card (2GB) to convert to a Pandora MC.

I was using this guide here http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-pandora-discussion-207/t-guide-make-the-perfect-pandoras-battery-new-138307.html

Somewhere along the line when I was trying to format the Memory Card into a Pandora Memory Card something went wrong. It said something like "This may take a while, time to make a cup of coffee." I let this run for almost an hour until I was searching around and someone said to start over renaming one the PBP files. But when I powered off the PSP and tried booting it back up again, the green power light came on but the PSP Fat wouldn't turn on. Putting the same battery into the PSP Slim had the same results. So did I brick the battery?

Take the battery out, plug the PSP to the wall via the AC adapter, and try to power up that way. If you boot up fine (as you should), then put the battery back in and rerun the Pandora tools to fix the battery.

Ah, okay. My friend left, will have to try it another time I guess.

Any explanation on why the Pandora formatting of the Memory Card took so long? On average how long should it take for a 2GB MC? Thanks in advance.

Depends on the brand of memory stick and whether it's legitimate or fake. Also depends on how fragmented the memory stick is, though part of the process should have involved reformatting it, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Brand new legitimate memory stick bought from Best Buy. Formatted it once before starting the process, then when the Hellcat Installer prompted me to reformat it for Pandora it took over an hour and still wasn't done. =/

It wasn't a Lexar, was it? Those things are total pieces of shit.

Were you stuck at just a reformat, or was it installing a shit-ton of apps as well? Because that step really can take quite a while.

These things can be pretty damn variable. Some older CFW flashes that took 3-4 minutes on a Sandisk memory stick could take up to 45 on some Lexar and Sony memory sticks.

Nope, it was a San Disk.

After doing some more browsing, from this thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/561484, one poster suggested renaming the file to just update.pbp or update and that worked for some people. Not sure. Really new to the PSP CFW thing, pretty confusing! Too many guides.

I just searched "Pandora PSP," on amazon and I get way too many results. Can someone point me to the right choice? It's probably just late but I can't figure out what the hell I'm supposed to be doing to even get started.

Ok, I have desperately wanted to get into putting CFW on my PSP for about a year but I never knew anyone else who had a PSP with it on.

Am I correct in saying I don't need to do that anymore, if I follow navanman's guide here? So it's just buy the Datel Battery Tool (this or this?), follow the guide and then I have CFW on my PSP? I only have one MS Duo however, should I buy a second?

If that's right, the first thing I want to do with the PSP is get a PS1 emulater working - is that still around? I got 2 PS1 games for my birthday (picture here) but I have too many games on my PS3 rather than PS1, and I can't remote play from my college.

I remember Mejilan mentioning he made created a single eboot of a multi-disc PS1 game, did he ever do a guide for that?

Sorry to bump my own post but can anyone help answer my queries?

Yeah, you should be able to use that guide to customize your PSP without too many issues.

Regarding the two Datel product links, either would work. As I understand it, the former is a utility that allows you to hard-mod (and then restore) a stock Sony battery, making it ready to be converted into a Pandora. The latter link is a Datel version of a pre-modified battery. Basically, a third-party battery that is ready to be turned into a Pandora by default.

If you have no spare batteries, I'd just probably buy the Datel tool battery, just in case. If you already have more than one PSP battery, then you could probably get away with spending a little less and just buying the modifying tool.

So long as your memory stick is legitimate (not a fake), and between 128MBs and 4GBs, you don't need a spare memory stick. Having a spare battery and memory stick can be convenient (since you can store both away and keep them as pristine Pandoras in case of future fuck-uppery, but it isn't necessary.

Wow, I didn't know CFW could auto update now. That's fantastic.

No, the only things you lose on CFW is the Korean Font and the "Location Free Player", which is pretty useless anyway. :p

Ok, so I got my Tool battery switcher thingy today but I have no idea where to start, the OP didn't really help me.

Any tips on where to start and where to go from there?

A new CFW has hit the scene. Simply called CFW 3.93, it seems to be based off the DA/M33 CFWs, and supposedly even has Mathieulh's support.

Full details:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/Custom-Firmware-3-93-comes-with-in-XMB-recovery/pg/49/aid/118993

Released earlier today, a 1.50 kernel support patch for PSP-1000s running this new CFW.
http://pspupdates.qj.net/1-5-Kernel-addon-for-Custom-Firmware-3-93/pg/49/aid/119036

One of the sites seems to have a LOT of issues with it.
Also, hit X after running the official installer or you WILL brick your PSP.

I'd avoid this like the plague.

Haha, I had no intention of installing this. But yeah, that bug sounds like the same one that affected 3.71 M33, IIRC. You had to hit X to reboot the PSP, not reboot it manually. Otherwise... BRICK.

Anyone have any step by step instructions on what to do first? I have a fat PSP with either the latest firmware or the one before that.

Please, I really want to get caught up with the current CFW. I would love it if anyone taught me what I am supposed to do.

Use this guide here if you have your Datel TOOL battery already.

Note: If you have Slim PSP, the display will not work but pressing the correct buttons will backup and flash your PSP.

Would this memory stick micro work fine on a PSP? No slowdown, slow speeds or transfers?

ms20micro202ginto20m220pr-4ace8orgf.jpeg

Where I live, it's actually a cheaper to buy one of those [if you know how to shop around]... I'm thinking of getting a 8GB...

I'm guessing that adapter is the only extra thing needed...
