PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Lofid said:
I know that you can't get onto PSN unless your firmware is completely up to date, so that's why I was wondering about CFW being 5.00. I believe OFW is 5.03 now. Does CFW somehow bypass the update requirement?

Yea, there's a fix in the CFW that gets you into PSN. Unless something has changed in the past couple weeks, it works fine.

Thanks. I suppose I'll be taking the plunge!

Are there any SNES emulators that will run ROMs at full speed with no lag? ...Most of the stuff I've seen on Maxconsole and PSP-hacks can't ...kinda sad too as GBA works flawlessly as does NES

...and yes I own the games that I wanna run.

I'm on 5.00 M33-6 and I have no issues accessing the PSN and my download of Everyday Shooter PSP.

So Sony claiming to ban people with custom firmware from the PSN was a lie?

no response

yeah, I tried it with Final Burn Alpha and CPS3 is not good at all.

Anyone use any emulators other than Final Burn Alpha with CPS2? I'd like one that would work without weird glitches like FBA gives. :p

Has anyone been successful running Metal Gear Solid or Resident Evil 2 using CF 5.0 M33-6?
Silent Hill worked for me, but MGS goes to a black screen after the PS logo.

I tried placing the eboot of the first disk of MGS on my PSP, and it worked. However, there are some awful sound glitches.

MGS glitches something terrible with newest POPS for me. If I use POPSloader and 3.71 POPS MSG single & combined EBOOT works perfectly.

I've never seen Sony claim this. Do you have a source?
I've seen homebrewers claiming this when 5.00 and 5.00 M33 first came out, but I've never seen such claims substantiated.

I just got my PSP and CFW going at Christmas. So far I have GBA up and running (Game & Watch Gallery on PSP FTW :lol ) but which NES emulator are you using or suggest?

MAME is pretty cool, although I am an old fart so the games I want to play from 1980-1984 (Phoenix, Shaolin's Road) or so run flawlessly for me. :D

If I can find enough documentation I might have a go at creating an up-to-date PlayStation CD image to PSP EBOOT app for Mac OS X (to replace Prometeus).

In the mean time, an easy way to get rid of those terrible default backgrounds is to modify the ones in the application bundle. Right click Prometeus, click 'Show Package Contents', navigate to 'Resources' and proceed to replace the relevant .pngs with transparent ones. Easy enough.

Apparently, it was just a rumor.

Is there a 32X emulator for PSP?

As it turns out, I was testing a new Metroid 1 mod (reload/respawn with full health) on my PSP, and noticed that I'm using NesterJ 1.11. I believe that there are technically newer, "unofficial" versions, such as those that add rewind/mirror mods to NesterJ, but those always seemed to bork compatibility in my testing, so I've stuck with the "official" NesterJ 1.11.

That would be radness incarnate.

Haven't kept up with PSP homebrew in awhile now, can anyone tell me what the state of N64 emulation is? Last I heard of Deadlus (sp?), it was still struggling for almost every game.

It's gotten somewhat better, now that a new/expanded team has taken it up. But I haven't really fudged around with it. Until I can play Ogre Battle 64 and Paper Mario on the go, I can't say I'm all that interested. But I also can't imagine playing more action-orientated N64 games with the PSP's current controller configuration.

Anyone stream video to their PSP with Tversity? If so how does it work out? I'm planning on setting it up for my PS3, Wii, and 360, wondering if its worth setting up with the PSP as well.

Is that only possible through the browser? If so, PS3 remote play > PSP browser.

So, I just made my magic memory stick. My brother has a slim 2000 that has been modded. However, I'm starting to think using his battery as a "Pandora" battery doesn't work. I was under the impression that having a magic memory stick ready to go would auto start the mod process if I did indeed have a Pandora battery.

Do I assume correctly that using a modded psp's battery won't work to mod another system?

Depends entirely on the battery in question. Some batteries cannot be Pandora'd, to my knowledge. If, however, you're trying to re-use a battery that was once a Pandora, then you shouldn't have any problems. Worst case scenario, re-run your Pandora-making tools (making sure to use both the battery you'd like to turn into a Pandora, and the magic memory stick that you'd like paired to it.

General PSP questions? Possibly... somewhere. This here is the custom firmware thread, so feel free to ask just about anything related to that. Except, of course, where to find ISOs and ROMs and such. Hell, if you have general hardware questions, I suppose this is as good a place to ask as anywhere.

To better answer your prior query, however, certain inroads have been made in cracking Pandora-proof 2000s and 3000s. However, I would not recommend upgrading your official firmware beyond 5.02, since the recently released 5.03 patches up the only real known 3000 exploit. We have yet to see this exploit turn into a full-blown crack, but it COULD happen, and we're in better shape now than we were a month or two ago.

To add insult to injury, patching the Gripshift exploit is the ONLY thing that 5.03 brought to the table. In all other respects, it's identical to 5.02. So you don't even get anything for the upgrade... just potentially lose something.

That song (those lyrics) remind me of that old Denzel Washington flick. I think it was called Fallen or The Fallen. With the demon Azazel. That song was like his call-sign.

POPSloader must be working because I put the EBOOT of both MGS disks on my PSP and I was able to run it without those awful sound glitches.

Now, if only I could get the .iso files from my RE2 disks without an error.

yay....my psp was swiped yesterday and I need a new one. It was a glorious rom playing machine so here is my question and I apologize if it's kind of a tarded, is there any type of identifier on the packaging to help me get one that in pre 3.90? Manufacture dates...anything? I really dont want a used one if I can avoid it.

It might prove quite tricky to find a hack-able PSP at retail. I think you're better off hitting up eBay or some such.

You would know, since POPSLoader should actively prompt you to select which version of POPS you'd like to use to load up your game. At least, for the first time you try to run a new game. It'll remember your selection after that, and in order to force the prompt, you need to hold R when loading the game. POPSLoader won't magically make games work, but when properly configured, it will allow you to maximize compatibility by being able to select from a broad range of different POPS versions.

Try ripping your RE2 game with a different program. Some proggies are a little less sensitive to disc damage, unless the damage is severe, obviously.

Cool! Dark-Alex releases LEDA!

http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2148180758#post2148180758

LEDA is a program that integrates into M33 custom firmwares to let some old 1.00/1.50 homebrew to run.
To avoid waste of memory, leda is only loaded when necessary.
Current compatibility is unknown as is still in beta.
Although it may work on previous m33 versions, it has only be tested on 5.00 M33.

The development of LEDA doesn't mean that development of 1.50 kernel addon will be ceased. 1.50 addon is very easy to code, and thus it will still be coded for almost full 1.5 compatibility, but LEDA has some advantages over it.

Advantages:

- It works on slim too
- It doesn't need much flash space
- You don't need to care about which folder your homebrew is.
LEDA first tries to load the homebrew program normally. If it works, then the homebrew is a 3.XX+ one, and leda terminates itself to not waste RAM. Otherwise, leda does some patches to load the 1.0/1.5 homebrew.
- Unlike 1.50 kernel addon, LEDA tries to be independent of firmware. This means that whenever a new version of M33 is released, leda will probably work without need of an update.

Disadvantages:

- Less compatibility. Anyways, I will try to make LEDA compatible with those old homebrew that are still useful today because they weren't updated or because they have a better old version.

Install instructions:

Copy LEDA folder to /PSP/GAME and run it. The program will install a prx in the system, this will be done very quickly. After this, you can already try to run 1.0/1.5 homebrew normally from XMB; LEDA folder is not needed anymore in the ms and you can delete it if you want.

LEDA sounds like just what I want. A way to test out 1.50 Kernel shit without losing the font or LocationFree player. Honestly, I don't have any 1.50 progs anymore, anyway.

I ran into this over Christmas when a familiar member was looking for one. If you don't mind the red and/or the bundle, the God of War PSPs should all be hackable. This is what we ended up doing.

Otherwise your best bet is to go to the less-frequented stores in your area that might still have the old models on the shelf. Best Buy, Target, Walmart, all of the big places are automatically out, as they'll have run through their stock many times over. Sears, K-Mart and ShopKo might be better bets, or even the stores on the tier below that.

I want to update to the newest version, but my PSP is still with 3.80 m33 something. Can I go straight from one to the other or do I need to update to something else first?

I would like to procure a black PSP 2000 (I hate the silver!) for to install CFW and get maximum enjoymentitude out of it.

Is there any way to guarantee that I'm purchasing one that I can actually hack? 'Cause I wouldn't want to buy one with the new chipset that isn't hackable. Unless... it is hackable now?

Dark-Alex released an updated beta for his LEDA software. Very cool. No major changes. Oh, except for the upped compatibility with 1.50 apps!

I think you can jump straight to the newest firmware.
