You shouldn't be, it's still just a 333MHz CPU.
That's true. But when you look at CPS1 and CPS2 emulation on PSP it's clear that there's alot of untapped potential there when it comes to MAME.

The lack of CPS3 and decent N64 emulation should give you a good idea about the PSP's current limits.

CPS1 and 2 most have been coded by some God or something though. Far too awesome.

CPS2's heart is just a Motorolla 68k. In fact, it's not that much more advanced than the CPS1. It's great hardware, but not exactly advanced, not even by 1993 arcade standards.

The only thing that held CPS2 emulation back until the early 2000s was merely the encription.

So, emulating the CPS2 isn't anything special.

In regards to emulation, you really can't be too demanding at the end of the day. You are at the disposal of great individuals who aren't getting paid a dime to make these applications on their own free time.

With patience, good things usually happen. Don't sour the scene by begging and complaining.

So I have a PSP 1000 (Launch Day whoo) and I want to upgrade it from my 3.90 FW to the newest Official Sony FW just so I can use the cool new features, but I also plan to get a new PSP most likely either the 3000 or 4000. When I get the new one I want to keep the older one and use CFW on it, so my question is - If I upgrade to this higher Official FW can I still go back to the CFW later on?

The Fat will always be crack-able, but if you DOWNgrade to any semi-recent official firmware, then you'll need a Pandora battery to hack the Fat again at a later day.

Alternately, you can upgrade to the newest custom firmware and still enjoy all of the newest features. Except for perhaps the ability to play the newest Idolmaster game. And I haven't bothered following it, so that might be playable too, now.

Uhh, what new feature do you need? CFW is up to 5.00 M33-6. OFW is 5.02.

Awesome, and the cool new features I mean the playstation store on psp - what can I say I'm a sucker for things i've been waiting on since I got my psp :p

And the reason I'm not just using the CFW now is because I'm wary about using CFW until I have another PSP to count on for my music and games.

PSN on PSP works perfectly fine on 5.00 M33-6.
I've purchased Everyday Shooter and the Prinny DLC with my CFW PSP.
They download and run just fine.

Thanks for all the help Mejilan! I know that when you have CFW already everything works well, but the process of doing it is what makes me afraid.

You're welcome.
But... you already have CFW. The hard part is done. Keeping your CFW updated is as safe as keeping your OFW updated...

Accessing the PSN via CFW is IDENTICAL to how you'd do it with OFW. Hell, I have my PSN ID shared between my OFW PS3 and CFW PSP, with no repercussions.

Wait I think there's been a miscommunication - I Have 3.90 OFW and want to upgrade to 5.02 OFW. And then later want to change it to CFW once i get a new psp. :lol
>.<
Bah sorry for being so confusing.

Ah, my bad. Killer headache.
Oh, well upgrading from OFW 3.90 to CFW or 5.02 OFW to CFW both involve the same basic process. Both will require a Pandora battery.

Cool, thanks for the help! I guess i'll upgrade now to OFW 5.02 just so i can use media mananger and other things and then once I get my new one I'll use a Pandora battery to go back.

Ok, I am having a problem the pandora battery. I've read around but can't find anything conclusive, so I am hoping someone in Gaf can help.

I have a US launch PSP, and a TOOL battery from the link in the op.

I've followed the steps in the op, using the Cat50 to make the magic memory stick, but when I pop the TOOL battery in, the power light stays on for 10 seconds and then shuts off. The screen remains black throughout. I've tried charging the battery to no avail.

The fact the PSP powers on leads me to think that I am somehow not making the magic memory stick correctly. I've tried various memory stick pro duos, ones by Sony and other ones too. What struck me as odd is when I get to the step to install IPL, I typed Y to continue and I am instantly presented with the completion message. The transition is so fast I am left wondering if anything is installed at all (considering it took several seconds to copy). Is this normal?

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Apparently.

Are you holding 'L' when you put the battery in?

I'm shocked and sad that PSP still hasn't got a decent MAME emulator. So much potential wasted and frankly I don't know why do I even keep updating my PSP with the latest CFW since I've pretty much abandoned it. Damnit!

Me too, also I can't believe that the PSP still doesn't have a decent SNES emulator which can play Super Mario Kart at full speed, Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong Country, StarFox/Wing etc, the GBA emulators for it are good why isn't there a good SNES one?
: )

Actually, I have had one really weird problem. I have 668mb left on my mem stick and I have already bought Guilty Gear of the PSN Store. It's like 484mb or something like that, but when I click it to download it says there isn't enough memory...which clearly isn't true. So I downloaded it on my ps3 and transfered it to my psp via cables and had no problems with memory then.

You need enough space to download AND extract a game/add-on.

I always thought this was the case, but I haven't been able play Super Stardust Portable or Wipeout Pure since installing 5.00 M33-6. The error says, "The game could not be started (80010013)." Know what's wrong?

I tried both installing from my ps3 and downloading them directly from the PSP. Same error both ways.

Don't have this issue, but I hear that going into the Recovery Console and disabling GAME plugin functionality (under Advanced?) might do the trick.

Okay, so I think I totally fucked my PSP.

I stomped on it earlier (don't ask) and decided to open the screen up using some tutorials. The bad news is, I think I might have ripped some things off I wasn't suppose too.

Here are the best pics I could take:

it doesn't look like anything is missing... did the system still power on and make the startup noise, even though the screen was broken?

if so, then you probably just have to replace the screen.

Finally sucked it up and bought a used PSP-2001 (while cursing myself for not getting the Star Wars bundle way back), and now waiting on getting a Pandora battery from DealXtreme before I install CFW on it. I do have a question for those who play PS1 games on the PSP - are the save games in the same format as "real" PS1 games (i.e. the save files you would find if copied it from a PS1 memory card onto the PS3, or created from the PS3)?

I want to say yes. I want to remember that my brother copied a PSX game and save file he was playing on PS3 and transfered it over to his PSP to resume playing. I could be making that up in my head, but I'm about... 75% sure that's true.

Someone will need to double check for you.

No noise, but it did start up. That's why I thought if I removed the screen and bought a new one I'd be okay.

My worry is that the white slots holding the threads broke off. I don't think I was suppose to do that.

On that note, are there any tutorials about how to put a PSP back together? My cousin decided to take his whole PSP apart to fix the damn audio out jack. Then he gave it to me to put together -_-. So anyone got ideas? I doubt ill put it back since its just a huge mess of parts..lol

Hey guys, I managed to actually create my PBP properly now(Was missing some dll files) but I'm kind of lost on the new Popsloader thing. I'm on 5.00 M33 and I'm getting conflicting suggestions. Plus I can't find the actual file as the one Mejilan linked to in his great OP just leads to Dark Alex's site and it's all in spanish?

I have a 5.00 M33-6 that doesn't seem to want to play any of the demos I download on PSN. I get "The game cannot be started. (80010013)". Is there anything I can do to fix this? I tried Resistance Retribution and Wipeout Pulse demos and neither work.

See post #4929 by Mejilan.

I finally updated from 3.2 or something up to 5.00 is there anything new I should look into that's been added since way back when? Anyone know what the vlf(?) library on dark alex's site does?

The newest POPSLoader is basically required if you're into playing your PSOne classics. (Older versions of POPSLoader will no longer work.)

If you've got legacy 1.5 kernel homebrew going that no longer works, give DA's newest version of LEDA a shot.

Cool, is the new popsloader called something different? Or what version should I be looking for?

So I made a pandora battery last week to mod a few friend's PSPs and now I can't get the damn thing to boot to the xmb. Whenever I put the memory stick in and the battery it boots straight to the Ultimate Loader. The times before that, I had to hold down a button for it to go to the Loader.

WTF did I do wrong this time D:

Try reformatting the memory stick with your PC and starting up the PSP while it's plugged in with the charging cable. Put the battery tool back on the memory stick and use that to change the Pandora battery back to normal, and that should solve it.
