I have been out of the CFW scene and need a quick answer. I have m33 3.90M33-2. Should I go from:

3.90 M33-2 => 3.90 M33-3 => 4.01 M33 => 4.01 M33-2 => 5.00 M33 => 5.00 M33-6

?

or can I just update to => 5.00 M33 => 5.00 M33-6??

THANX

Jump straight to 5.00 M33. Better yet, let M33 Network Update do most of the work for you.

yup just did it. Nice an easy.

OK I think I want to jump into this custom firmware scene. I just need a pandora battery. Has anyone used codejunkies batteries? I can get a slim one which will can be switched between service mode and a regular battery for 30 bucks plus 10 dollar shipping. Does this seem worth it. Then I imagine once I get it I just make a magic memory stick and I'm good.

Plenty a people throughout the scope of this thread provided anecdotal evidence for a Datel battery.

Any time! M33 Network Update = SAAAWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

Or sumfink.
Mines already updated to the highest firmware so far, but for future reference how do you use that M33 network updater? Also My UMD version of Ultimate Ghouls' and ghosts stopped working on 5.00 M33-6 any idea why that happened and how to fix it?

It should already be enabled by default, but you can confirm by booting into the recovery console and toggling the M33 Network Updater on or off.

It looks and works exactly like the regular Network Update, but instead of connecting to Sony's servers and official firmware updates, it connects to Dark-Alex's for custom firmware updates. It does everything for you (including downloading the corresponding, renamed official firmware update that pairs up with the custom firmware you're trying to apply.

No idea about UG&G, as I don't own that game. However, I tried Googling, and it seems that some folks have reported issues with that game when the RemoteJoy plugin was enabled. Have you tried disabling it (and all other plugins)?

So do I click on the update icon for that? or is there a seperate thing i'm supposed to click on? That's pretty badass if that's how it works. Also is there any thing I should get for my psp now that I've updated? I haven't been into this stuff since 3.40 OE-A so I'm sure theres a ton of cool shit I've missed out on. Also I'll check out that remotejoy thing and let you know.

Edit* I don't even have RemoteJoy in my plug-in section. So that can't be it.

Yeah, with M33 Network Update enabled, you just hit the usual Network Update icon in the XMB. Couldn't be easier. :D

I'm sure you'd know if you have RemoteJoy going. You would have had to have downloaded and installed it.

One last thing, I tried to rip it to see if putting it on my memory stick would allow it to run, but when I rip it using the USB: UMD mode it shows up as a .zip file that when opened has a ton of files. How do I convert this to an .iso?

Mejilan

It should default to one sole .ISO file. Drag and drop that to your PC, rename it to something more meaningful, and drop it, untouched, to the x:\ISO folder of your mem stick. Voila. It might be showing up with a Zip icon due to file type associations. That depends on your OS. On my computer, UMD ISOs show up with the Winrar icon. Doesn't mean it's a .Rar file, though!

Ok, more questions. I have a PSP Slim and I hear that certain mobos aren't able to be hacked. Is this true, I don't know if that's just outdated info. And if it is true is there anyway I can check without tearing open my PSP.

I just bit the bullet and went for it. I successfully restored pandoraed and restored my slims battery. Now I just need to buy like an 8 gb memory stick.

If you can have MicroSDHC or it is cheaper.
I have adapter that it can have 2 of them in one MS Pro Duo. And it will work on PSP even 32GB (2x16GB MicroSDHC).

PS little OT

I have scratched on my screen, and it make rainbow effect. So I thought I would like to buy replace psp-2000 frontplates.

How easy to take it off? solider required? Or need break hard glue?

For some reason, I thought the highest card you could use for CFW was 4GB. I guess that was mentioned in one of the guides for making a magic memory stick.

Question: If I want to have multiple memory sticks under CFW, would I just format each one using catb50? Or is it only needed for that first time to install CFW?

"You're right."

Sorry. :)
:D , Well I tried everything I could find on Google to get Ultimate Ghouls n' Ghosts, but nothing works. I dunno it's the only game that says "Game could not start 8************".

? Try following that, I've directed a few folks to it and they didn't have any issues.
I've got 4 games on my psp right now that I ripped today. All of them work except Ghouls' n Ghosts which won't work running off the UMD either. I tried it on a different PSP to see if the problem was the game, but it worked so that rules that out. Has anyone else tried it and had the same problems?

Hey thanks for the YouTube link (even though it wasn't for me!). I was just looking for how to rip PSP UMDs. And now I rip the one game I have, heh.

What other neat cools can I do with my PSP? Besides media. I have an iPod touch; I don't need music and video.

More importantly: how do I go about getting my PSP to display a random wallpaper on startup? I tried using this thing but it's not working quite right. As in it doesn't change the wallpapers at all!

I just updated recently and was getting that same error with stuff I downloaded from the PSN store.

I had to disable the GAME plugins option under Advanced configuration in the recovery menu. Everything worked fine after that.

That's bizarre. Do you get the same -game could not be started- error when launching the UMD?
Yes, This and Tekken 5 are the two so far I've tested that do it. and at sublime I don't have any plugins to disable so that can't be it.

Well neither did I, but it still stopped the errors I was getting.

I'd recommend at least trying it, it takes like ten seconds.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I had done it anyway and yea...it doesn't work still. In fact Tekken 5, GTA: VC stories, and Ghouls and Ghosts all don't work. A handful of other games do work though.

I want to mention they are test using both UMD's and trying it off the memory stick using all the different options. I'm pretty upset they arean't working but there must be something doing it I'm missing because I'm sure a ton of people would have bitched about this long ago if not. I'm not finding too much help on google about it either.

Ok, I just went and disabled everything in the advanced options and now they all work. I'm not sure which one was doing it but I'm glad the games work now!!!!!!! :D :D

Synless, can you check if you have Plain modules in UMD/ISO mode disabled or enabled?
Dig around the Recovery console, you'll find it there.

edit: Yes, the advanced configuration dialog. You shouldn't really tinker around with that page in the first place, that's just asking for trouble.

I disabled that too. That might have been the one to do it. I just kinda went crazy and disabled everything except for the network update thing and now my games work.

So I'm about to buy myself a PSP off eBay and I want to hack it with the latest CFW.

My question is, is there any way I can play games from PSN? I bought Beats a couple months ago and I remember PSN requiring the latest official firmware or something like that.

I'm on CFW and I can still access the store and play purchased games.

I don't especially know what thread I should be asking this in, so I guess I'll go here. I've been thinking about getting a PSP after my DS broke and I realized I don't care about replacing it. Thing is, I can't find enough to justify pulling the trigger. I really want Prinny, and Patapon looked nice. Outside of that though, nothing looks that attractive. I don't care about stuff like God of War or Ratchet. I can scroll over giant lists and truthfully nothing looks that interesting. Are there anymore of those kind of games that I'm just not familiar with? The thing doesn't really seem that heavy on the RPG front either.

Also, I'm confused about something. Would I need to finagle the firmware to get it to play my PS1 games or does it do that out of the box? Truthfully the whole integration with PSN is just confusing from the outside. I'm guessing it only plays PSN and PS1 games that have specific PSP versions?

OFW and CFW can both play PSP and PSN downloads from the PSN just fine.
If you want to play your own conversions of PSOne games, then CFW is required.
OFW can't dance to that tune. Of course, getting a CFW-ready PSP is becoming trickier and trickier each week.

I thought Prinny sucked huge amounts of ass, but the system DOES have other platformers. Two Mega Man games, Ultimate Ghouls n Ghosts, Crush, and quite a few more.
Patapon's sequel is coming out here in May. I couldn't and wouldn't recommend ever recommend a PSP over a DS, though, no matter how much I love mine. (I've got two!)

The only PS1 games the stock firmware plays are the ones Sony's released on the PSN network.

The CF basically works by tricking the PSP into thinking its one of the PSN games.

YACC was always my favorite, when I used to compress 'em. I don't anymore. Some newer games tend to not like it.

I'm shocked and sad that PSP still hasn't got a decent MAME emulator. So much potential wasted and frankly I don't know why do I even keep updating my PSP with the latest CFW since I've pretty much abandoned it. Damnit!
