PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Okay, I already made a magic memory stick and I have a tool battery. However, when i put the battery in nothing happens can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong.

I shouldn't be too surprised about this considering how much Sony has tried to unify the platforms, but as I just recently started seriously using PS1 emulation PSP, I even more recently discovered one can share the PS1 save data with PS3. Just sticking the memory card into PS3 won't do, but if the PSP is connected in USB mode you can access the PS1 save files. You can't copy entire virtual memory cards back and forth, but individual saves from one virtual memory card to another and back works fine. Now if I want to get an hour of Dragon Warrior VII in on the big screen, it's doable. (Though the game hides its age better on the small screen.)

I'd recommend the adapter route. You can find 8 GB microSD cards for about that cost and 4 GB for less than half.

This was the bundle I got since I wanted the adapters and so I can personally recommend that one as working on the PSP, but I probably could've found it by itself and saved some dollars.

Have you compared the file access time of the adapter set to an official memory stick?

Um a heads up,

I never had to use a Pandora Battery for my 2 PSP's(1 mine, the other my brothers) both are 2000 series. 100% serious and not bsing at all. All I needed was 1 application and that's all:D Guess I found it by luck!

I highly doubt it for the following reasons.

A) All of the game and other exploits (GTA, Lumines, Tiff) were already patched by the time the 2000 was released.

B) The standard Sony firmware cannot run any homebrew applications because nobody besides Sony can apply a digital signature to a program. If there was a way to digitally sign a program, there wouldn't be a need for Custom Firmware and the 3000 would already be running homebrew applications.

The only way to put a custom firmware on a 2000 is by Pandora, there's no other way to do it.

Bookr for PDFs, PSP Comic for CBR/CBZ. I think the most recent versions are 0.7.1 and 1.0.0, respectively.

I cannot get Bookr working. I put it under the \PSP\GAME folder as per the readme but it does'nt show up. I'm on cfw 5.00 M33-4.

I didn't think to mention this before since it was the first version of bookr I'd ever used, but apparently until recently it didn't directly work on the latest firmwares, but required the optional 1.50 kernel. So maybe you got the old 0.7.1? Searching Google for the filename I downloaded, looks like I got it here.

I finally decided to install the CFW (5.00 M33-4) on my phat PSP just to replay the Resident Evil series (RE1, 2 and 3).

I ripped and created the rom images using RS-GUI POPStationMD v3.0 (as described on the OP) but none of the 3 games loads past the PlayStation logo. They just "hang" there and the only thing I can do is press home and quit the game.

Any ideas what am I doing wrong? I followed the instructions step-by-step but did not install the POPSLoader or any of the OFW POPS. Do I need to do that too?

All POPSLoader does install the different emulator files from the different firmwares and allow you to run them on different firmwares (they are the official POPs).

Different games work differently under different firmware versions (FFVI for example won't load saves on anything other than 3.03). I do know that RE2 had some issues on certain firmwares where it would crash at the police station before the licker attack.

Another thing, the program used to encode the games can also cause some problems. Not every program converts exactly the same. I use PSX2PSP and I've had no problems with it.

I'm going to try PSX2PSP. Thank you.

Ok I got a Black PSP slim, it's my cousins, I want to install CFW on it. I pandora'd my fat battery and used the "PSP Pandora Deluxe" tools, when I put the memory stick and load the battery (I've tested every key combination) I just get the battery LED turned on and that's pretty much all I get.

Any suggestion? Are there any fool proof tools that will set everything up? I used the guide in the OP but that didn't work out for me. I don't know which version the PSP board is, I don't know how to tell, the mobo is covered up my a metal plate from the UMD drive.

I'd appreciate any help.

Sorry EGM, looks like your cousin has one of the later revisions of PSP Slim (TA-088) that is Pandora proof.

Quick question but how is Sega CD emulation on the PSP?

After reading the recent 'Snatcher' thread, I've been meaning to play this game again (played it several years ago on a friend's sega cd).

Many thanks.

When did the TA-088 boards start rolling out? The PSP was bought back in Late July/ Early August.

I actually haven't tried it yet. To my knowledge, only the PicoDrive Genesis emulator is capable of it. I keep on meaning to drop Shining Force CD onto my PSP. One of these days...

Snatcher works great on Picodrive.

Does anyone know if custom firmware (be a bad flash or something) can “break” a button?
Somewhere along the lines of upgrading over the last few years my R button has stopped working.
Now, I know it’s not broken or dust, because it only doesn’t work when playing psp games that I’ve made from my discs, or that I’ve purchased through PSN. I can hold down the R button to access the recovery menu when starting the psp, and while playing a game, if I put the game in sleep, hold down the R button, and then turn the psp game back on, it’ll work maybe half the time, for a little bit.

Currently, it’s working about 10% of the time with no problems, and then randomly it’ll stop working. It’s frustrating the hell out of me on some games (no running in RPGs!) but I’m not sure what to do.

My PSP is a model 1000, bought on release date 12/12/04 in good old snowy tohoku.
I did the 1.5 hack with GTA back in the day, and switch over to Alex’s firmware along the way.
I’m currently running the latest firmware (5.00 m33-4?) that I updated using the custom network update (which as an aside corrupted all my regular psp saves..)

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I played through it like this just recently, and it was perfect. Just be careful to set the quicksaving and quickloading on the L and R buttons to ask for confirmation; screwed up my game once because my hand slipped.

I can't really think of anything, but check your IDstorage keys using ChillyWilly's KeyCleaner. Latest version out there is 1.4. Some of your IDstorage keys relate to physical functions in the hardware, and its possible to have a few bad keys due to an "unclean" downgrading.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try tonight after work. I did downgrade once I think around the 2.xx or 3.xx, so maybe it started happening from there.

OK guys need some serious help here on Cracking my PSP" I got the first modell that came out at launch" it has Firmware 3.9 installed.

I need a guide on how to crack it... I do not have access to any pandorabattery. dont know if I need one but lets hope I dont :)

The MicroSD adapter...

....Works fantastic, I notice no difference whatsoever. Two 8 gig MicroSD cards ($17 each).

Awesome stuff. :)

Wish I had found it before I splurged on the 8 gig Sony Stick for $45. :P As you can see it formats to an even 15GB.

Yeah, I also use it with two 8GB (class 4) cards. According to BlackSPEED v2.0 it's slower then my 4GB Sony MS but it doesn't feel slower in game. Can't wait for 32GB cards.

PicoDrive is flawless IMO.

Elaborate with purchase links (preferably from a retailer that ships to Canada).

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I ended up getting PicoDrive and the related files last night. Initially had a few hiccups when getting it to run, but resolved it shortly after re-tracing my steps.

I'll give Snatcher a go once I can tear myself away from Dissidia (I usually play for an hour or 2 a day). Also managed to track down Flashback as well, so once I'm done with Snatcher it'll be time to play Flashback.

Again, many thanks again!

Hey guys, having an issue. Doubt I can do anything about it, but...

I forgot my charger at a buddy's like a month ago. We're having a transit strike here so I can't get to pick it up. I planned on just keeping it charged via USB, but I waited a bit too long and now it won't power up at all. I have an old charge case...tried connecting to that to give it enough juice to power on and charge via USB but no go, it was drained too.

Is there any way I can get a bit of charge in this thing without going out and blowing $20 on a new charger?

I've got the adapter and 1 16GB (class 2) card - there's some slowdown in the XMB/gaming but they're mostly minor and are traded off for the extra storage. Waiting to get another 16GB MicroSD so that this sucker can be boosted up to 32GB, which will be fantastic

Well, the adapter was a gift from a friend of mine...

I think he got it off Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001H1JF16/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I had it in about a week.

The MicroSD's are the A-Data brand, Class 6, which I got from Newegg. Honestly after using a 8 gig Sony brand Memory Stick I cannot tell any speed differences but don't know if the Class 6 is playing into it or not.

Here is a link to my mini review on our forum if anyone is interested.

There's no other way. At 3.50 you could have used the Lumines exploit. There's no other option besides Pandora past that.

Can you do the Network Update on 3.90 M33-3 to go to 5.00 M33-4?

Yes, but I think you'll have to run the update twice, once to get to 5.00 M33, another to patch it up to M33-4

The trick was to ask a second time. Congrads, the secret file will be PMed to you shortly.

He was being sarcastic. Past 3.50 (or so) on a PSP-1000, no other exploit was discovered. You need a Pandora.

I started playing it and was kind of like "shit, I do not want to sit at my PC and play this, I want it on the PSP."

Pipe dream I guess.
