PSP FIRST EMU !!!!!!!

Here's what's really happening. New games include the firmware updates and will not run until you update. It's not a stealth update, it's just a failsafe. The player is fully aware of what is happening, basically if you don't apply the update on the UMD, the game won't let you start. All new PSP games are let this now.

I'm getting myself a 1.0 PSP. Is there a list of the games that require a firmware update to work, so I can steer clear of them?
It looks like every game released from now on will make the firmware update mandatory :-(

thats why you get one for emus and one for psp games

how can sony demand that u have the newest firmware update? Not every person has wireless access. If anything...I think that sony will make mandatory updates if you want to go online with any game that you have. People buy psps to play portable games....they can't go thinkin that everyone is looking to cheat them.

Read about the MAME emulator at emu-france.

I hope the European PSP gets all these emulators...

You'll need a 1.0 unit which is only Japanese, so no Europe won't be able to play any of these EMU's unless the latest firmwares are hacked.

apparently someone just released a vid of homebrew working on 1.5 through a loader

http://www.only4.info/psp-dev/

"English Version:

All of you have wished this. Yes, now we can load homebrew in PSPs with v1.5 firmware (we haven't try in 1.5x versions). With an exploit that i have just created today we can load any homebrew in our PSP. I must try to make it better, so you will have to wait.

The Release Day will be 06/15/2005 at 15:00 GTM+1 (Spanish Hour).

Note: THIS IS NOT FAKE, anyone who know us, know it's real. Thanks to all"

probably fake but eh

it has a video link, i havent watched it yet. its currently being discussed in #psp efnet, thats where i got the link from.

I'll believe it when I see it, but if true I am not purchasing another PSP UMD again.

i dont know if it's fake or not, but the use of "Firestarter" saves it. looks very fake though. i guess we'll know in 4-5 days

If this is true and it only runs on 1.50 thats bad news for game developers. Millions of PSP owner will then have to decide if they want to play official games or homebrew in the future.

New versions of the Neo Geo Pocket and Genesis emulators. The Genesis one plays at full speed, but lacks sound.

Mr. Mirakichi keeps updating his GB/GBC emulator even though it has been near-flawless for the past releases. He needs to start on a GBA emulator stat or something else :-P

:lol Seriously, someone get him a memo that the GB one is great and his talents are needed elsewhere :D

According to psphacker.com, a update to an existing emulator claims to unlock the psp cpu so that it runs at 333mhz. I doubt it, but I do think its possible.

What does that mean? Sony put in a faster CPU but downscaled it to a slower speed? Why would they do that? (Does it reduce power consumption?)

Yes, and Yes (to reduce power consumption).

AFAIK, they told developers to hold off until better batteries are released.

Maybe they are having problems with the YM chip wich still sounds pretty bad even on those emus that supposedly emulates it well.

i wonder if it's possible for the upgrade to damage psps. kinda nervous having homebrew developers beat the game developers to the punch

They're not beating anyone to the punch. The reason for the clockspeed cap is battery life. The difference here is that the emus are running off the memory stick, so not having a UMD spinning already saves a bunch of power, this shouldn't be much of an issue. Now if developers were to uncap their games on UMD, that might cause serious battery life issues with the unit as it stands now. The developers have always been able to use 333mhz, they're just informed not to for the reasons stated. :D

How is it that they know they are clocking to 333Mhz for sure?

someone wrote a small performance checker, i believe.
Whatever is happening, switching through the clock speeds makes a difference in MAME for one :)

has anyone tried the latest snes9x with the 333mhz unlock feature? hows it run?
They told me Yoshi's island (SFX2) with frameskip 2 runs even too fast (at some points)...Which is good...

With the 1.50 hack soon released, the emu scene (especially SNES and Genesis) is going to have to pick up the pace. Flawless SNES emulation shouldn't be far off.

What games you can run reasonably fast using the mame emulator? I'd assume stuff like Pacman or Galaga runs nice, but what about R-Type, Out Run or other more advanced games?
