Getting closer to a 1.5 solution.
Thats old news and not very good news.

You guys should better think about a world where 1.5 never gets hacked. It might still be done, but that saves you from some big disappointment.

Very true, that is really old news, 2 weeks old I think? and still no progress on that. Looks like everyone who bought a US PSP should start saving up to buy a standard JAP unit.

btw. does anybody know if all future games make the 1.51 update mandatory?

we should know soon for US PSPs. Dead to Rights and Midnight Club 3 come out in the next 2 weeks i think

new Japanese games force the update though

Wow, thanks. Time to update.

What does it offer over 1.5, then?

I guess I really wanted to see the purple menu anyway.

Edit - Damn, 14 MBs for a .01 update?

purple menu?? huh?

All my PSP's are 1.00 what's this purple menu you speak of?

PSP menu color changes each month. Haven't checked out June's purple yet. I prefer May's green.

I'm sure the 1.5 will be hacked... hell, it hasn't even been out more than a few months...

EDIT: Question is, will people need two PSP's, one for emulators, another for PSP games? Or will the new firmware upgrades be broken?

No one knows, wait and find out like everyone else who owns a US psp

UMD dump utility released. This kind of things only come out when mods/loaders are ready to flow, so well... Sony must be kicking its engineers in the nads for that 1.0 firmware.

F-P, bringing the scene news.

You give Spain a bad name :D

Do you mean we should expect something soon?
We probably can expect pirated games in the future, which IMO shouldnt be the purpose of hacking the PSP.

Same goes for movies, I'd rather have a good DivX PLayer running at full resolution than any pirated movies.

Hacking 1.5 seems still far off. I am reading the forums at psphacker.com and they seem pretty clueless. That last attempt with SNEX9x included was pretty desperate and showed nothing more than the fact that it is not possible to run games without the correct signature. Nothing has been achieved since then (at least not been announced).

I think they never cracked the xbox signature, homebrew is only possible using modships and it may turn out the same on PSP.

And the news for 1.0 owners are bad too. It looks like all future games come with a mandatory 1.51 (or higher) update. So it is either homebrew or PSP games.

I see myself buying games in the future and downloading the cracked versions from the net, which run with 1.0 firmware.

Not so much, I would pay easily what I paid for a machine like PSP for emulation purpose (I did that for GP 32).

I will just wait a white PSP when it´s released, The only thing I´m afraid is my broke my 1.0 because seems something really unique and I´m not going to mod a system anymore.

In other news I hope PSP games never be hacked, I have no desire of seeing ISOs running on PSPs, it´s would be a disaster for people working on that games.

OK, so it is either homebrew or PSP games ON ONE PSP.
If you have to make that choice, it shouldn't be that hard... I don't see anything coming that matches the combined software libraries of MD, SNES, NES, GB, GBC, PC-Engine, MSX, and god knows what else :D

Would it be feasible for someone to implement a dual boot solution in the future?

Maybe someday... but don't get your hopes up, 1.5 isn't even cracked and sony is already getting ready for a 1.52 release

I think it is a very hard choice. I didnt buy the latest in handheld technology only to play old 2D games.

EDIT- And I doubt the deve tools will ever be leaked for the PSP like they were for the Dreamcast. That was ridiculous.
Actually given their rate of progress I'd say it's rather obvious these guys already have access to leaked documentation etc. Not to mention the CodeWarior PSP leak a while back, so they got access to tools as well.

Evidently the only way to get stuff running is to generate a key based on the executable itself -- do the devkits have the ability to generate this key?

Realistically, the only way I can see this working is via an overflow in a save game which hijacks the system and pulls up some sort of launcher.

Jonnyram said:
Imagine if some Sony developer got pissed off with his/her employers and leaked the key... the world would explode!

I'd assume that third parties/devkits are incapable of generating the key themselves, as the key is linked into the executable itself and is probably generated within Sony.

Also, you can't just start hex-editing the firmware update executables and change text like "Firmware Update" to "I HAXOR JOO"; there are checksums all over the place and if anything is different it will refuse to run.

I'd be surprised if anyone manages to get code running off memory sticks on non-1.0 PSPs from the dashboard.

Time to bump this. Looks like more western homebrew developers get into PSP.

Doom, Doom 2, Quake and MAME are said to be running on PSP PC Emulator. Should not take long until they work on PSP too.

Now I can only pray for someone to work on Duke Nukem and Dark Forces, easily the best of the early FPS. Good thing about 3D games is native full resolution support, if they put some effort in it.

does the emu work on the american PSP yet?

:lol Not yet man, you'll notice when it starts to work when the forum goes batshit insane and topics will be posted everywhere on the subject.

On a side note... it looks like you will need to have 2 PSP if you want to EMU and play games, rumour has it that Sony has now made it so that games will update your PSP without your knowledge while playing a newer game during the process of the game. Hopefully this is fake cause imagine you're playing and your battery died out! that would most likely leave you with a dead unit.

yeah thats just a BS rumour, no way sony would risk that happening

That is obviously BS as all new games force you to update your firmware before you can even play them...so yes, you'll probably need 2 PSPs if you want to play original games and homebrew

...that is of course only until you can download cracked versions of the games on youy memstick that load faster, need less battery and run on 1.0

as others have said, this is bs.. there is no way sony would attempt to stealth flash your firmware...

"What, no power left? Let us introduce you to your new paper weight!!"

I'm getting myself a 1.0 PSP. Is there a list of the games that require a firmware update to work, so I can steer clear of them?
