PSP FIRST EMU !!!!!!!

Looks like future games will force the 1.51 update.

Not sure how they can. Games can ship with updated firmware, but you need the AC Adapter attached to install it, so games will still need to run on older firmware I think. So you simply don't boot up a game with the AC adapter in, or refuse to upgrade your firmware.

anyway, if they make anything of the wipeout pure exploit, I don't know if you can patch that without affecting wipeout pure itself.

I cannot fucking wait until the Wipeout exploit launches things.

Hopeless until something like that shows up.

Me too.

I expect it'll happen fairly shortly-- and I don't think any firmware upgrade is going to stop it.

So when the game refuses to actually load until you have the current firmware version, what are you going to do? :D

That's quite an interesting solution. One PSP for PSP games and one PSP for hacks..... hmmmmm.... :D

Works great for Xbox as well. One to play all your mod stuff on, and another to play on Xbox Live (Only if your mod-box get banned, of course). Some folks jump through a bunch of hoops every time they get banned, buying new HDs, EEPROMS, etc. so they can go back online with the mod-box. That's stupid. Just drop $150 on a second box for live (Or less, used). Then you never have to fool with it again.

Wait, all this firmwear updating...does this mean I should buy a PSP now if I want to be able to play emulated games on it? I'm talking about US PSPs.

Well seeing as US PSPs can't do this by a long shot...

OT: 5 Months with a modded xbox on Live and I'm not banned
I think that a GBA emulator will be impossible because the rom size >= PSP ram size

I would be shocked if new games actually required you to update the firmware. Considering that a failure is non-recoverable, forcing users to do it in order to play games could open them up to liability for faulty hardware and class-action lawsuits.

Huh? GBA games are between 4MB, 8MB and a few 16MB. That easely fits into the PSP's memory.

+the emulation code, and there are some roms with more than 16mb, another option would be virtual memory inplementation like the N64, Mame and NEO-GEO emus on the xbox, but I doubt that happens

Shit, I gotta start reading. But why not?
In short, Sony made a booboo about allowing unencrypted code to run on the original firmware for the early Japanese units. All updates since then, including that which is on all the US versions, have that fixed.

I been playing gba, nes, gameboy and gameboy color roms with my flash cart for the past 3 years. Call me when they emulate snes or genesis. :)

Umm... How much RAM is in the PSP? 32MB? That's more than enough. the Xbox GBA emu takes up 6MB of memory.

Next OS update is supposed to drop from 8M to to 2-3M.

Well, if that is true, and no one can figure out a way around the newer firmwares I doubt we'll be able to take advantage of that since Sony will have locked the exploits down with an OS update.

and call me when your SP or DS gets a 6" screen.

How do firmware updates work? Wirelessly? Through software?
Coulnd't somebody fake a firmware update in order to free up the system?

wirelessly and through USB cable (download from PC)

it's basically just a file that runs in psp. hacked firmware? perhaps but hell if i know

It seems that if there is no way around existing firmware the best thing to do is to hack it.
Hack 1.0 and give people with >1.0 the option to revert back. All you really need to do is break the security Sony has on firmware. I'm sure it's doable.

That's all fine and dandy, except nobody bothered to mention the GBA emu on Xbox barely runs at full speed...some games are pretty choppy on there. Thus considering Xbox' power over psp, I doubt we'll get a full speed GBA emu anytime soon. I'll be happy if we get Snes and any systems prior at full speed/sound.

Uhh... What games do not run at full speed? Where TF are you getting this info from?

Aside that, the GBA emu, except for hardware filters, is dependant upon the CPU. I am under the impression that a 250MHz PSP CPU >>>> 733MHz Pentium 3m

What version are you using?

Are you running it through the Amiga emulator first?

I dont think either the PSP or the XBOX have any problems at all to run gameboy games at full framerate.
Even my old Amiga did it without problems (7,14MHz Motorola 68000 cpu) if i remember
it correctly

Heck, even my SNES did it with an adapter without problem ;) ;)

why do you need the entire ROM in memory? Its emulating a GBA, so you only need the GBA RAM in PSP RAM. The rest you can load of Memory stick as needed, like the GBA would load from ROM. Speeds are probably comparable, possibly even quicker on memory stick.

Hah...news like this brings a TEAR to my EYE! I can't wait till AN EMULATOR is released for US PSPs....Sega Master System or NES would be a GREAT start, in MY opinion!!

The new update it´s awesome, it´s really fast, what an improvement.

I have playing Battletoads, the screen it´s ridicully screen but I was having fun with it, even if it´s a pretty ridicule to have a PSP to play a 8 bit black & white game on a tiny screen.

When the PSP is running perfectly emulated SNES games, scaled to fit the PSP's screen, then I'll be a lot more interested.
