PSP Remaster Series Announced for PlayStation 3

I for one didn't know that the NGP resolution was 4x the PSP, exciting stuff down the line for gaming in the future. I really want to see what's in store for the NGP at E3.

I think Sony should have just put more effort into their PSP emulator in the PS3.

A good emulator can really improve the look of 3d stuff. The Xbox emulator in the 360 works really well (on the games it works on).

And that way the same game could be on the PSP-PS3-NGP.

I don't get what was keeping companies from doing this before, anyway, there were several PSP-->PS2 ports. (Not to mention, PSP-> Wii ports)

But I think this cuts the head off of the NGP in the West. Once GTA: LCS was ported to the PS2, software sales of VCS were dismal, because everyone knew it was coming to the PS2.

This is a clear signal the same will eventually happen to NGP exclusives...

you can't compare this, you couldn't play the ps2 version of gta lcs on the psp,but you can play the ps3 version on ngp (and/or maybe even on psp)

for publishers it shouldn't make a difference if you buy their ngp game on blu ray or card

maybe they'll even up-rez p3p since there hasn't been a good JRPG released for PS3 in its existence!
There have been a lot of good JRPGs released for PS3. And there are a lot of games on PSP I'd rather see remastered than a 3rd re-release of a game I've completed twice.

Holy shit! Awesome news to wake up to.

-KH Birth by Sleep (this is an absolute must)
-MGS Peacewalker
-Dissidia collection
-Falcom game pack

If a Type-0 HD version was announced at E3, I would meltdown, but realistically this won't happen.

Also pretty funny that Monster Hunter 3rd is receiving a HD remaster, along with an NGP re-release. I'm sure the Japanese will appreciate the cross-platform play.

Do we know how much they'll be charging for these games? As much as I'd love to play them I don't know that I'd want to spend another $40-60 on them.

The emulator wouldn't allow for proper DualShock support. I assume these remastered games make proper use of the right stick for example.

Wow day one on alot of titles i have missed out on, i wonder if you already own the download versions of any of them on psp if you will get the free upgraded version?.

This really doesn't seem like a good idea for the sells of their handhelds.

From a publisher perspective tho, it's quite nice to be able to reach a bigger installed base with little extra effort.

And Sony gets royalties anyway.

and from a consumer standpoint, its nice to know that I can play my PSP games on the move and then come home and enjoy them on a big screen.

Yeah, but you need to buy the game twice tho :P

PSP ver and PSP Remaster.

Unless they start selling both in one package. But I doubt.

What's the point of advancing technology if you're going to play games that are less than your last gen system?

Breaking news : you'll still be able to buy InFamous 2 or Uncharted 3 !

See, I actually have a ton of PSP games, so I wouldn't mind paying for the PSP remaster. I imagine they won't be full price anyway. If a HD collection with three PS2 games in HD, 3D and Trophies is about 60% of the price of one PS3 game, I think these PSP remasters will be at a nice price.

I'm hoping/speculating that this psp re-mastered, will be the same as psp re-releases on NGP in this news
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/201..._ngp_releases/

if it's the same, I sure as hell like the prospect of playing FF Type 0 on NGP with HD graphics, and it will certainly wait for NGP version.

I hope you are correct, having PSP ports in GD for NGP would be a major selling point for me, but unfortunatley it seems these PSP HD ports are being sold as blurays, it wpuld have been great if they were sold as PSN releases and are cross compatible like PS1 Classics.

Besides not wanting to do it for marketing reasons, another obvious reason why there won't be a NGP Remaster Series is because the NGP has more advanced input feature-set than the PS3. At least it would have to be games that don't take those features in use. The resolution jump wouldn't be that great either.

taking the PSP out of PSP games is probably the best thing that could happen for them. the analog nub is terrible, comfortable controls for PW and MH will get a lot of people interested.

With NGP to PS3 ports I think it will be the other way round, NGP will steal PS3 games, but it would only be games that are easy to port and not technically impressive games like Uncharted 3 and Elder Scrolls Skyrim. So I expect ports of Mortal Kombat, SSFIV, Twisted Metal and etc for NGP.

EDIT:
I think this is a good idea, it is obvious Sony want to phase out PSP, with NGP/PS3, and the best way to do this is to get all the best games from PSP and make them available for NGP/PS3 in HD. People may put down Monster Hunter on PSP and go buy Monster Hunter HD for NGP/PS3.

oh my dear God. disc release, or psn download? I will be there on launch day for mhp3.

The press release mentions only Blu-Ray.

(They actually wrote "Blue-Ray" lol wtf Sony)

If Sony can somehow workout an online setup where it carries over across all three platforms- NGP, PSP, and PS3 - I think we'll be in for something special.

One more thing, it would be nice if Square Enix would release something. Their financials are sucking the blue ones at the moment.

I can't believe there are people who are seriously sour on this.

smh

Really, this is a win for everyone who wanted a lot of these games but didn't want to deal with the PSP itself. If you already have these games on PSP nobody is forcing you to buy them, be happy with the fact that you already got to enjoy these games. As long as SONY prices these reasonably, I really can't see much to complain about. Studios that maybe didn't see the profits they wanted with it's initial PSP release have a 2nd chance to make some money with a minimum amount of effort.

I'm looking forward to being able to transfer saves from one platform to another. I could see myself playing it on my PS3 in the living room, then continuing on my PSP in my bedroom before bed, or when I wake up in the mornings on weekend, and am just too lazy to get up, get dressed and walk to the living room again.

As long as they can be played on the NGP as well!

They're PS3 games, simple as that really.

You'll be able to play all (downloadable) PSP games on NGP anyway. The value of 'HD remasters' might be a little more questionable there. Not that it wouldn't be nice to have the choice, but I think they'll more or less stick to having one version of PSP games available for NGP. If they did do ports, they'd be a separate product to these PS3 ones.

Re-reading the press release I'm not fully understanding the ad-hoc party support.

I initially thought it was a mean to play *online* with other PSPs through the PS3+Remastered game, but the press release mentions "Ad-hoc mode gameplay will also be supported through "adhoc party for PlayStation Portable" application on the PS3 system".

So you can only play MP *locally* with PSP Remaster games (via Ad-Hoc Party)?

So basically, say I have MH3 HD Ver. Can I play online with it or not? Maybe only with other HD ver. users via PSN? If I want to play with PSP users, am I restricted to local MP only (through Ad-Hoc Party)?

*confused*

Awesome. My PSP is bricked and I always played it at home anyway.

Final Fantasy Type-0, God of War and MGS...here I come.

I think the fact it uses Ad-Hoc Party strongly suggests it should be cross compatible with genuine PSPs connected through Ad-Hoc Party. (Seeing as it's technically 'Ad-hoc mode gameplay') It's less clear if local wireless Ad-hoc with a PSP would work, hmm.

Not unexpected. We're at the end of PSP commercial life and games like Ghost of Sparta, Peace Walker and 3rd Birthday bombed, they want to get money from them, which is understandable.

Will buy Peace Walker with online co-op.

Question, is this just upscaled in HD, because watching the video trailer I cannot tell if they added any extra graphics details, if this is true then the NGP version doesn't need the HD version as the NGP version can upscale every PSP game on it's own as it is exactly 4X the resolution and it is doing software emulation of PSP games (think PC emulators).
