Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I've already gotten a lot of heat for this, but: rotr looks more impressive to me than Uc4.

I can't really defend this, it's just how the two games look me. I think rotr looks better.
It's just not a defendable opinion. One is a cross-gen title, the other is a PS4 exclusive. You can like the aesthetic of RotR more, but it is most definitely not more graphically more impressive.
Not sure why people play Soul Series games
This is a bizarre post, elaborate.

Despite playing Bethesda's games to death I think they(Bethesda) are quite overrated and lack in a lot of fields. That said it's a shame there aren't any other big first-person open world sandbox games out there.

Im not sure if this a 'controversial' opinion but I think PS4 games have exceeded the quality of the Quantic Dreams tech demo that people were disbelieving was possible in a real time game on that system.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j5xxi6cjjU

I'd point to the following three games to qualify that.
The Order 1886
Uncharted 4
Driveclub
Infamous Second Son.

The Xbros stereotype really annoys me, as someone who primarily games on Xbox and plays a large variety of games, it's obnoxious when people assume I won't buy an indie game or jrpg or something else thats considered niche. I try to let it roll off one shoulder and on to the other, but when so many posts are like "why would this come to Xbox?" It gets very annoying

If it had difficulty levels its just a average game.

I think Falllout 4 looks dreadfully boring and archaic and I cannot understand the OMGWTF reactions everyone has had.

Many of the scenes in the trailer were so close to Fallout 3 imagery I feared we were getting a reboot for a moment.

To me it looks like Fallout 3 but prettier, and once that would've sent my hype skyrocketing, but after Skyrim couldn't hold my attention for even a tenth of the same time as Oblivion I feel the Bethesda open world formula has grown stale.

The animations still look a generation or two behind.

The shooting still looks stiff and awkward.

The character models are really low compared to the environment.

Base building is interesting but not something I could ever see myself putting time into.

The voice acting and writing aren't too hot either.

It'll sell gangbusters, obviously, I'm simply surprised how uninterested I am considering how obsessed I was with Fallout 3 & New Vegas.

When people talk about the industry on a macro level, of course they're going to paint in broad strokes. They can't account for every single exception, including you. Sure maybe you did buy D4, that doesn't change the fact the creator was initially not impressed by how it performed.

Totally forgot to state my disgust of the majority of mushroom kingdom themed games, limit Mario to platformes please.

Neither The Last of Us nor Uncharted 2 were the two best games of last gen. Even if they had some of the highest production values.

-The PS4 UI is extremely boring and bland. It just lacks soul and personality. Where is the customization?
-XB1 games lineup is vastly superior to the PS4's so far. Time could change this.
-Black Ops 3 looks terrible. Everything from the campaign to multiplayer looks like a step backwards from Advanced Warfare.
-It's a damn shame the WiiU didn't catch on. With 3rd party support, it might have been the only system I owned most of this gen.
-As someone that has Shenmue in his Top 5 all time games, the announcement of 3 didn't stun me the way I was expecting. Maybe the lack of gameplay...
-Neogaf is a pro Sony site
-First impressions are strong as hell in gaming. Outside of the $399.99 announcement at E3 2013 I don't see why the PS4 is so popular.
-VR headsets are going to flop.
-Horizon was the only game @ E3 that had wow factor.

Spirit Tracks is one of the best Zelda games precisely because it's innovative. Definitely in my top 3. On the other hand, Ocarina of Time is among my least favourite. No nostalgia goggles since I didn't own an N64 back then so I couldn't play it until the 3DS remake. I know it's a good game and it set the ground for modern Zelda, but it's not that special. The fact that it defines the franchise doesn't make it the most fun to play.

I'd say that's fairly controversial. I think many, many people, including myself, would firmly disagree with you on this. Especially with the Wii.

I wouldn't. Wii U easily has the best exclusive titles of it's own right now, and Mario Galaxy alone was probably the best game last gen by far... so it's not so unreasonable a statement.

I share your same thoughts and I don't think it's even close.

I feel the opposite tbh. As XB1 continues to lose exclusives to PC I've found that the idea of needing to own one becomes less and less necessary as time goes on and less and less genuine exclusives for XB1 seem to be getting announced while simultaneously the number of PS4 exclusives being announced actually seems to be increasing.

I've said it before, but I think XB1 is the console with the least to offer of it's own this gen by a long way right now, and outside of Scalebound(Assuming that also doesn't go to PC) I can't see anything in the future that's likely to change the situation.

Because Microsoft did this

And now Microsoft are doing this.

I really wish Telltale would go back, or at least make more of the point-and-click adventure games they started with instead of the interactive movies they make now. I like TWD and such, but I would kill for a Sam and Max season 4 or another Strong Bad's Cool Game 4 Attractive People.

For the life of me, I cannot get into Red Dead Redemption. I suppose I don't hate it or anything and imagine it has a lot of merit, but shit... It's just boring to me.

I'm not very good at being controversial. I don't like upsetting people.

-The only quality titles shown at Microsoft's E3 conference was Cuphead and Forza 6. Halo, ever since Bungie was out of the picture, has taken a serious nose dive in quality and is as generic as sci-fi shooters get. Gears 4 or whatever they are calling it was not shown in the best possible light (pun intended) and looks like a snoozefest.

-Fallout 4, while promising, looks like it was built on a game engine from 2005. It does not deserve the game of the show award. Please note that I am still going to buy it and play the shit out of it.

-I enjoyed FF7 when I was a kid but I think the game is over rated, and I don't understand all the hype for the remake.

-MOBA games are stupid.

-esports should not be classified as a sport.

Final Fantasy VI was an amazing game with a boring villain who is more overrated among the hardcore "elite" than Sephiroth. He didn't succeed as many people like to state. At the end of the game he states he wants to annihilate the concept of life itself and create a monument to nonexistence. As the world is still around at the end and everything is all happy with the human race surviving he clearly failed like every other villain. Also his dialogue is horrible.

Feeding off of this, I thought it was REALLY lame that Sony got so much credit for coming out and saying "Yea we're just going to do the same thing we've always been doing... *deafening applause*"

Not saying that MS had it all figured out, but for an industry where innovation and new ideas is key, gamers sure as shit hate change.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why Metal Gear is so popular. Is it because it makes no sense? Or is it the cut scene fest?

I barely tolerate Grand Theft Auto. I give it a good go every time, but get so bored after 10 hours or so. Never had that issue with Red Dead Redemption.

I'm Japanese, but I hate JRPGs.

Fighting games are fun for 2 hours tops.

Other than streaming press conferences, I don't understand the popularity of Twitch or esports, for that matter.

I hate symmetrical joysticks.

I think default look should be inverted. If there was a giant thumbstick attached to the back of your head, it would go up to have you look down, and vice versa.

I actually agree on pretty much all of these. Good post.

Edit: might as well expand on my reasoning.

I have been a huge CoD fan since 1. I used to make weekly LAN parties on COD United Offensive, and have followed and bought on day one all CoD games, including the Vita one. I am not interested in Blops 3 at all. Shame.

Most of my games I have been getting on the XB1, and think that the exclusives have really been the best. That said, I'm a FPS/shooter fan, so Sunset and MCC have been custom made for me practically. Killzone Shadow Fall was a let down, but the mp was acceptable.

I don't like the idea of announcing games that come out in 2-3 years like Shenmue 3, and then rewarding the company for a promise. Show me the game is nearly here, then I might support. But I am 100% done with preordering any games, so I won't support any kickstarter, let alone one already being supported by a large corporation. And I didn't really enjoy Shenmue 1/2 anyway (my personal preference).

The Wii U offscreen feature is a system seller, but was never advertised or taken advantage off.

I wholeheartedly thing that VR is a gimmick and will die faster than 3D support for games. Not gonna sell at all. Its gonna be expensive, gonna be cumbersome, and no casual market will support or even give it a chance. It's DOA.

Horizon was the best IP I saw at E3 (that showed gameplay). Almost a day one buy at this point. Glad those developers left the Killzone franchise, it was holding them back since it was originally framed as the Halo killer.

Nintendo and sony need to start putting their vita and 3DS games on android in the play store. the games are already made, resell them for profits. and admit to everyone that mobile gaming has more untapped potential than traditional console based. Notice i said untapped, and yes the industry needs a drastic overhaul, but they could do it.

Sony got credit for not helping Microsoft destroy the industry. If Sony went along with Microsoft's vision, I wouldn't have been surprised if it would've ended up being the demise of console gaming. There was very little Microsoft was doing right with its policies personally.

Microsoft's DMR had many people, myself inculuded, feeling pretty miserable about gaming going forward, not being able to let friends borrow games, no being able to trade them in, sell them on, having to pay a fee for second hand games.

It was the very antitheses of progress, it was corporate thinking strangling something to make a few extra bucks.

The relief when Sony announced no DRM was palpable, I did something right after the E3 show I'd never done before, I pre-ordered a console the instant it became available.

But the change they (MS) were trying to introduce wasn't innovative or moving the industry forward; it was restricting consumer practices. People weren't applauding the lack of action, but more so Sony's stance on DRM.

Considering the new ideas MS tried to introduce, hell yeah Sony should be applauded for not following in their footsteps.

Don, how many more times are you going to have to be told to let it go??

PS I'm pretty sure that the selling of second hand games practice they wanted to introduce would have been illegal in the EU too..

Meh, I saw it as the transition to an all digital future, which I desperately want (haven't bought physical media for anything for YEARS now). It would have been tough goings at first, but there's NOTHING techwise that's stopping all use cases you and I used to do with disc and cartridge based games and switch to doing it digitally, and it'd be SOOO much nicer.

PS+ has been terrible for PS4 only games since the release of the PS4, so much that I would want Sony to give me a PS+ tier were I don't have to pay for indie PS+ games that I don't care about and don't download.

Final Fantasy VII remake will be a huge let down. There is no way a game can live up to the nostalgic memories of the fans, and so many years of . They are trying to capture lightening a bottle and it just won't work.

The all digital future is coming, this much is true, but MS's vision isn't what people wanted and that much was made clear by the backpedaling, loss of market share, price drops etc.

That and it had much better hardware. Cheaper and better hardware is going to win over a lot of people.

I agree. I want to try one out, but it will never replace a monitor/TV. People working on moving VR are truly wasting their time. People raised a stink about Wii remotes hitting TVs. Can you imaging people trying to walk around their living room unable to see? And HoloLens isn't the answer either.

twice

I fixed it for you.

Pretty much why I went with PS4 as my only console this gen (in addition to a rad PC). Cheaper and better hardware coupled with a stable of top tier first party developers is a deadly combination./

You can still go all digital on X1 (and PS4 too) so what's your problem? Having options is nice. Being forced is never nice.

I would go even further than that, and say that the Xbox line makes no sense for MS as a company.

The whole initiative has never come off as a natural extension of their business, but a hubris-driven forced march towards conquering a non-PC market. It has siphoned off money and manpower they could've put towards PC gaming (which has seen a huge resurgence without them) and the smartphone/tablet space (where more and more people are doing computing stuff). It has done nowhere near enough to push their other products (Bing, Skype, IE, etc.) to justify their quixotic "MS owning the living room" nonsense, and has never been profitable enough to make up for the billions in losses they've incurred getting the brand off the ground.

The Xbox One rollout showcased the absurdity of MS's vision for the Xbox pretty graphically. It was only after their initial push crashed and burned that they focused on pushing the system as a games console, not the Trojan Horse all-in-one media box they've been trying to peddle for years. Their overreliance on third party multiplats was a problem long before the XOne came out. And for all their efforts and promises, the Xbox brand has always been seen as it's own separate entity, rather than a hub for the rest of the company's offerings.

Sure, but what are the broad strokes regarding the supposed "bro-ness" of the Xbox userbase based on in the first place?
