Thanks it wasn’t on the map but it was on the ground to the left of the base.
Some of these unlocks are great, the energize cans to replace bolts

Yeah the customization is pretty much anything awesome 😎

And then you get the buffs on top of the different armor pieces 😎

If you weren't a fish I could hook you up with a PS5. But alas, yhou got fin, not fingers. :p

The real question would be: do you own me an apology? You know if you do.

Audio Log 3, if I am not wrong. Which is a nice easter egg!
I don't think ps5 is ready for me yet, you BETTA testers are doing a great job ironing out the bugs.

I expect perfection when i finally do get one, then you can keep all these trash games like Rachet, Demon souls and returnal, who needs stuff like that anyways when i have Bugsnax to look forward too.

Yer Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem , 4k bugsnax, put that in your pipe and smoke it..

The camera reset/follow can be turned off so you can manually control the camera. It was bugging me too, but it's in the options - Controls & Shortcuts - Camera Follow.
No you can not. There is two options, Default or Fast, both still resets the camera.

You said that it is doing the same thing has portal.

In portal you have everything on both side of the portal loading so you would have the entirery of level 1 and level 2.
In Ratchet you load only what you can see so you will have something like 70% of level 1 and 10% of level 2(random numbers to get the gist)
No, I said what's that showing off is the same rendering technique as portal. Both (visible areas) things are in memory, clearly.. you can literally see through it. Same with in portal...

As the linked video said, the difficulty is in effectively rendering 2 viewports at once, without killing perf. It's a bit like running a game in splitscreen, but w/ splitscreen there is the expectation of lowered graphics.

The dev even says in the video it's the same technique when they are just pulling you into the same area via a portal. The big difficulty in that is the rendering.

Understood the difference here is that according to the devs what is on the other side of the portal isn't completely loaded like it is in portal which is very impressive.

How the hell you get the zurpstones while flying? It doesn’t collect them

This was a mission design flaw that they should have addressed. You need to collect up to 45 then you can shoot those on the roofs to collect them easily. I had to go to youtube for it.

That was my last collectable.

I played most of the game in Performance RT and now I'm playing in Fidelity and I'm definitely leaning towards Fidelity now. I like 60fps but not at the price of eye candy. When I first booted the game up I had resolution set to automatic in the ps5 settings and the game didn't look quite right (washed out) until I set the resolution to 2160p and Christ it was Pixar lol.

I am no furry, but you gotta appreciate Rivet's character design. It makes Ratchet look bad. She looks like a cut pet you might want. Her animations are top notch. She is voiced with a kind of energy and spunk Ratchet simply doesnt have. I hate this focus on making every lead protagonist boring and realistic so this is a welcome change in pace. She reminds me of Ellie in the first last of us.

I would be ok with Ratchet getting retired after this game and Rivet taking over. She's that good.
They definitely did Ratchet dirty. Rivet gets 50% game time in Ratchet's game, gets exclusive arena challenges, gets exclusive ability to fly a dragon and has a much more likeable personality. Ratchet overall is quite dull in both PS4 and PS5 games (way more dull on PS4), he had way more interesting personality during PS2 and PS3 era. I think they're clearly pushing Rivet as the hero for the next game.

This game is so good, and is quite an improvement over the 2016 game IMO. So much more character driven story segments, better visuals (obviously), better gameplay IMO, better music ... Insomniac has reached another level here. I've been so pleased with all of the PS5 games so far, I think it's been a hell of a launch.

Also if you play this game and don't see why the PS5 SSD design is integral to the entire experience, I don't know what else to say. It's pretty clear now why devs were calling it a "masterpiece of system design" before the release. This game doesn't seem possible anywhere else at the moment.

Whatever is coming next is surely going to be great.

Has anyone ran into an issue where you can’t move your character? I’m at the area with rivet waiting to get a repair done and I can’t move at all. I can switch weapons but can’t move or fire weapons!

i started a new game and move perfectly fine but I dunno.

Did anyone wear headphones or use a soundbar etc? I'm using Steelseries Arctis Pro plus gamedac and its sublime. I'm very impressed with the Tempest engine and thats coming from a Dolby Atmos snob.

Yup, using the Pulse 3D here. You choose the Pulse 3D headset in the menu, not sure how different it is.

I got an email that my delivery is delayed and expected Tuesday for what was supposed to be release day delivery. So I said fuck it, drove to Gamestop for the first time in like 5 years and bought a new copy. On Tuesday when my shipped copy arrives, I'm returning that to Gamestop.

I have no tolerance for incompetence. I carved out my weekend to play the game and wasn't gonna let it go to waste because of Best Buy's bullshit.

Cancelled all my pre-orders from them and moved them all over to Amazon. One strike too many on Best Buy. That was like the 5th game I ordered this year that was supposed to have release day delivery and got it way late. Never had that problem with Amazon.

Tonight it's game on, can't wait!

That's the entire game though; it's an asset streaming based engine.. vs. a traditional "the level is loaded" engine (Portal.) Whether a portal you can see through is nearby or not, the data for what you can see occupies much of the memory.... when you move around, other things are loaded/unloaded fairly constantly... When you can see through a portal.. the concept is the same.. everything visible has to be in memory, and some things nearby.. when a portal you can see through is there, that is an increase in asset density.. just as if there a particularly "busy" and varied part of a single level. The real trick is to render 2 viewports at once which the dev explains (and it's the same for the... Portal (the game), like portals, where the level is the same on either side.)

It's nice when they aren't shackled to a movie they had no involvement in.

I haven't played this yet but are there any difficult platforming sections? Is the platforming abundant or sparse?

Installing now! Can't wait to see this on the OLED.

Anyone care to chime in on best mode to start with? 60fps, 30? I know DF provided their recommendations, just wondering what the community thought before I jump in.

Holy shit you guys, I am shocked at how good this game looks. Every single world I've traveled to the game hasn't ceased to have my jaw on the floor. Played for 5 hours straight on Saturday on Performance RT, this game is CGI movie during actual gameplay. I can't get enough of this thoroughly adorable, charming game. There's so much heart, humor, action set pieces and superb voice acting in Rift Apart. I can't recommend this game enough for anyone who has a PS5. So damn fun and jaw dropping all at the same time.

im gonna check my settings now, thanks for the post Because I can’t see a difference in fidelity over performance Rt on my oled. Maybe the res isn’t right on mine. 60 just looks too smooth to pass up.

I do see it as a welcome addition to the franchise. I actually see it as an opportunity to have separate Ratchet and Rivet games that interact with each other. I think it's a good thing. Overall.

And Rivet is so lovable and looks so much like a plushie that my daughters just love her (it's a color/design thing, it has nothing to do with bullshit like empowering women: my dauthers go earthworm and toad hunting in the garden :D )

Not really. The game is mostly about shooting stuff. What little platforming is there is so simple you’d have to try hard to fail at it.

The snowflake writing in this game is absolutely annoying. All new characters have low self esteem, trust issues or are anxious/depressive. I'm playing a puzzle level and all the background dialogue is how "you're so special and brave and lucky to have a friend", like everyone needs to be reminded all the time that they're so special and accepted.

I'm sorry but I just don't relate to this pathetic ultra sensitive and needy generation. That's why I tend to skip most new shows and movies.

yeah it's not great.
I miss the edgy, more brave humor of earlier games like this in ps2 and some ps3 era. This is just pixar humor for kids
(btw, I barely started. It's still better than 2016 so far)

Yeah that’s a major issue I have with it as well. Everyone is too fucking nice which is completely at odds with shooting everything in sight. My memory is hazy as hell when it comes to the old Ratchet games but I could’ve sworn he had a little bit of snark or attitude. Still a friendly dude but not some pussy pushover.

It's appropriate writing for the wide target audience.

Let me explaing: as an adult I agree with you, and the writing is really snowflake. But then I look at my kids. I do not agree with how I was brought up (I love my parents, and recognize they have done the best they could with what they had) and I do want to make sure that they get positive reinforcement, that life is difficult, it isn't perfect, and you fail more often than not. I LOVE to play in front of them, die, and laugh it off. It isn't a big deal, you regroup and retry.

So I do get what you say, but this game is for kids as well, and I believe that kids needs that kind of writing.

Just tagging on to say and its even way way way way better than 2016. I just finished 2016 last month after the 60fps patch, and this game has so much more
oh for sure, for me it's the most fun I've had in the series for like 7/8 years?

Rivet is a great character too, wasn't keen on her in the pre-release footage but she's won me over for sure.

This was one of the few things I didn't agree with in the game. They have you fly and the first place I think most people went was a place where the Zurpstone appears is place you can only get flying.

I can’t stand that sort of stuff, but really don’t think it’s too bad here. It’s just a standard kid’s story about courage. Also think it’s nice that Rivet’s focuses on forgiveness; certainly something we could do with these days.

From the pics and footage I‘ve seen so far, the only graphical aspect that might need improvement is some of the foliage. Some of the plants, grass and bushes have kind of a ‚flat‘ look to them, if that makes sense? They could do with some sub-surface scattering, and some proper self-shadowing. Otherwise the game looks phenomenal.

Where?

A couple of rifts where you jump on boxes. Other than that, jumping from one area to the next does not make the game a platformer.

Is Control a platformer?
You are completely right that it is a third person action game.

But to say platforming is pretty much non existent is hyperbole at best.

There are so many ways of moving around in the game and on each planet.
It is not just jumping that count towards platforming.

Ogbert

That's the definition of platforming.
Nah.

Platforming is where navigating an obstacle course is the central mechanic of the game. The game builds and builds the complexity of those mechanics - Mario, Yoshi, Astrobot, Crash.

If jumping is the sole criteria to be classified as a platformer then any game with a jump button is one.

Anyway, football’s on.
