Disappointed there wasn't a Ys: Proud Nordics announcement.

It released yesteday in Japan so today would have been the prime time to annouce a worldwide release.

It was absolute dogshit, the first time a Ninty Direct was somehow worse than the average State of Play. I mean, I REALLY love the OT series and I will obviously play 0 and The Adventures of Eliot. That being said, this was all about OPTICS, it's the first direct of its kind since the Switch 2 came out, those HD-2D, while awesome, are flat out Switch 1 styled games. The rest were minor games, late ports, Just Dance and sports nonsense. Really poor form by Nintendo for thinking this shit was acceptable.

As shooter fan, i am excited for Apex Legends. See how it stacks up with the competition. They had to do a lot of cutting to gettting it run on Switch, so Switch 2 should definitely PS4+ out of the ballpark.

I would of rated it an E if it wasn't for laughing so fucking hard at the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero bit where they caught me off guard with "From the perspective of 8 characters... INCLUDING GOKU!"

like its a fucking dragon ball game, I don't need to be told I can play as fucking Goku in it LOL! so its bumped to a D.

Honestly surprised there were a few new things, which brings it up to a D.

Partner Directs are a bit pointless at the moment, if they're mostly going to be old games like Star Wars Outlaws coming to Switch 2 in a few months - for about triple the cost you'd pay on other platforms right now.

They should just give those things 5 seconds in a sizzle reel during a normal Direct.

I love BotW and TotK but these musou games with the navel-gazing and cheesy music just make me sick of that whole world. I can't really explain it. The plots and characters of those games just aren't my thing anymore.

Awful. Not even like a new section of Switch 1 games with Switch 2 updates or anything. Like why aren't they giving out more paid/free Switch 2 updates with all those great Switch 1 games they have??? Nothing for Wonder, Yoshi, Mario RPG, Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remaster, Luigis Mansion, Smash Bros...

I could go on and on. Even the new stuff was super underwhelming.

As a Nintendo fan... I was left wanting

Too much focus on the Switch that could have gone to other Switch 2 games they could have announced. Like we KNOW VF5 REVO is coming and I don't know why they didn't show AT LEAST that.

Where was.... Lemme calm down. I gave it the lowest grade.

For a Partner Direct? I mean fuck, it was awesome. What did people expect? 👏 *Partner* *Showcase* 👏

A new Octopath? A new IP from the Bravely and Octo makers? Fuck yeah.

I think the most exciting thing coming out of this is just knowing that when the first-party bombs drop in August near Gamescom, it's gonna fucking slllllap. There's so much pent up stuff they have been holding out on.

How many are rating it according to what they wanted it to be vs what it was? Are we rating it on it's merits or are we just voting low because we're mad that it wasn't a general Direct even though Nintendo never said anything, we just listened to a bunch of leakers with half-stories and hearsay?

God it's like literally the same story every single time, and we never learn. 🤦‍♂️

Typical stinker of a Direct, but I expected that going in, it's a partner one after all. The PvZ: Replanted trailer was cute though.

As a multi platform gamer I will continue to dismiss multiplatform games on Switch 2. SW2's niche in my setup is current-gen Nintendo first party machine, with exceptions like the rare exclusive that interests me (Fast Fusion). No interest in spending money on anything for Switch 2 at present other than Prime 4: Beyond. Maybe Kirby Air Riders if it's good. I'm already shelving my SW2 for now, got too many games to play on other platforms.

Shame if they're really making us wait until September for more 1st party game information and announcements, but I guess I can wait, as long there's some first party megatons in there when that "red banner" Direct (as March Climber March Climber pointed out) does drop...or at the very least some ports that actually make fucking sense, like Kid Icarus Uprising DX.

I mean, yeah. take the Series S verson, now cut the GPU performance in half.

a pretty ambitious port, maybe overly ambitious.
I mean the video also showed a lot of pop-in, frame-rate dips and low-resolution textures.

And I'm still seeing people blaming Ubisoft or saying that the Switch 2 has enough power...... until 2032 or 2033

Feels like some publishers are just making cheap knock-offs of games for Nintendo on purpose.

Or maybe it's like fashion — my mom always says the old stuff always comes back at some point…

it has enough power for properly ported games... which noone does anymore, as these days the devs just mainly rely on the built-in scalability of their engines, which results in games that look blurry and unrefined.

Hogwarts Legacy is one of the very few games that made proper adjustments for ports to lower end consoles, by replacing a vast amount of assets, adjusting geometry, adjusting level design, adjusting loading areas and more.

Hogwarts is comparable to the PS2 ports of the first 3 Splinter Cell games, which were mainly developed for PC and Xbox, and then were heavily modified for their PS2 releases (while the GameCube always got shafted with a direct port of the PS2 version). there too we saw most assets replaced, loading segments added, level design adjusted etc., which was necessary as the PS2's GPU was not even half as powerful, and memory was also a constraint

that's how you do a proper port for a less powerful system.
but now? at most you'll get some CPU optimisations, some tiny adjustments, but the bulk of the porting boils down to downgrading settings as much as possible, and if it still doesn't run well, adjust them as low as it's possible without completely breaking the visuals, reduce resolution as much as possible, and then hope it doesn't drop below 20fps...

:messenger_tears_of_joy:The Love low effort asset flip future .

Unlike you i live throught PS1 , GBA, NDS , 3DS and PSP era of SE . Their pixel game and AA art direction look different between each game compare to this . My standard isnt low like many people here

It's expensive to port to the Switch 2, which is why fewer major third-party developers will come in the future. Switch 2 just like Switch this will be Zelmario Indiario platform.

I somehow missed this port got announced. Day one double dip for S2 for me

Possibly. But according to the dev talk, it's a UbiSoft made port studio. How good they are, we'll find out soon I guess.

"New". It's the mobile version being ported to Switch. New to console I guess.
No it's not. I have the mobile version and it's a completely different game. Where did you get your info from?

One thing is now clear: Microsoft will not be a supporter of the Switch 2. Their focus is on making the Xbox ROG Ally an appealing hardware to buy, which wouldn't be the case if they ported their stuff to a cheaper handheld from a bigger console brand (Switch 2). Xbox multiplatform pivot just means PS5 support.

C for me. Only a handful of interesting games
Monster Hunter Stories is finally interesting.
New Kamatari is awesome. many favorite composers/singers on it, but I hope they still keep the weird music.

D. Lots of ports i don't care about or are better on other systems.

Zero hype for me. Cool, people can play a 20 year old yakuza game. Besides donkey Kong there's nothing out here

D. It was pretty crap but I'd expect a larger, better showing in Sept-Oct.

This seemed like an event to get some ports and some AA & 3D-2D stuff out there before year's end. Lots of niche stuff here like Octopath Traveler 0 (which I like), but nothing big overall.

I mean I played the PS5 version the other day on performance mode, 720p with heavy use of FSR, the game was a blurry mess, so no surprise here
The game ranges from 1080p in non intensive areas to 720p in intensive areas while maintaining 60fps.

The switch 2 version has a lot of pop-in, frame rate issues and it looks that a lot has been cut from the PS5/XSeries X version.

All at 30fps… or even less.
