I'm quite "meh" on the PS4/XB1 line-ups too. I'm also "meh" on the WiiU's holiday line-up to boot, though.
I bet you're wrong about that.
I can't think how anyone can defend Knak against Wonderful 101 while considering himself a gamer.
I know that the majority of people who plays videogames nowadays want cinematic experiences, that's an undeniable fact. The gamming market expanded when the FMV or CGI exploded and that's what attracted people to our hobby.
The problem is that those people of course wasn't interested on gameplay mechanichs or anything that resembled that, they were there because of the CGI, and because of that the games that demand the player to learn even the simplest routines are niche to say the best. This is a fact, and I can accept that.
What I can NOT accept is to see those CASUAL players considering themselves gamers. No, you're not gamers. You're as casual as the one that bought the Wii-Fit to lose some Kg of fat doing a bit of exercise while having fun. You're not interested in the gaming part of a game, but on the graphics and the presentation.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that this is bad or that you don't deserve to enjoy videogames that way. It's just that you can't consider yourself a gamer, but a techie or maybe a movie enthusiast, but not a gamer by any means.
Pretty much."Weve got Zelda. Weve got Mario. Weve got Donkey Kong."
Go back 20 years and you'll hear the same thing.
Not only that, but most of their *new* games literally recycle entire worlds (Zelda 3DS), or entire games (Wind Waker HD), and in the case of Mario Land (the graphical style and assets from the previous 3DS game). It's embarrassing when you see their current output compared to the N64 days.
Well then, if a gamer is someone who plays videogames, my granny was a gamer when she resolved a sudoku when I let her my DS.Everyone who plays games is a gamer, to some extent, regardless of what they're playing. The market is huge today, from casual to core, passing through the average joe/"dudebro". There's a place for every kind of game on the various number of platforms we have right now. It might not be on retail shelves, but that's why DD has been growing. Different people will focus on different things about games.
Also, this argument that some games are worthier than others is silly, and has been the main one used by Nintendo fans since wiiU came out day 1, because pretty much everything has sold poorly. WiiU has an okay library right now, with some nice titles coming until the end of 2013, but it's not some kind of holy grail in gaming.
Oh god, people still say stuff like this?

He's right. Those launch line ups aren't very exciting while Wii U is getting several big games.
Sorry but this post is such bullshit. Most of the "dudebro"( god that.s such a stupid fucking term") shooters you're complaining about are coming to both consoles. And saying that's all that's on X1 is ignorant as hell and only shows you have little idea what you're talking about.
Well then, if a gamer is someone who plays videogames, my granny was a gamer when she resolved a sudoku when I let her my DS.
Look, this has nothing to do with the platform but with the games. It doesn't have anything to do with sales either.
Everything revolves around gameplay mechanics, and Knack seems to be the same of Ryse in that regard.
I'm not saying than someone doesn't has the right to enjoy with Knack or Ryse, it's just that if someone prefer those games above Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Rising or The Wonderful 101 is because he prioritizes presentation above gameplay, thus being a casual and not a core gamer.
This is the most condescending post I've seen on GAF in a while. The audacity to declare who is and isn't a gamer because they don't like the "right" games is so absurd that I'm not sure if I've gone through the looking glass and this is some high-level meta commentary on the sometimes exclusionary, juvenile mentality of gaming culture.I can't think how anyone can defend Knak against Wonderful 101 while considering himself a gamer.

Normally i try to avoid these kind of threads. But i find it really funny people have to say wii u is meh because he called the next gen consoles line up meh. Why can't people just say i disagree with reginald because we have this and this andtherefore his opinion is invalid to me. Why has this go to a consolewars kind of stuff. Let the numbers do the talking when the consoles are here. that said i can see where he is coming from. most games coming are multiplatform and the good exclusive are yet to come on them. I dont find it fair that regi is comparing the comming line up from the wii u to the others. that said either you like the next gen line up or you dont it all comes down on your own opinion it really irks me that some people say the world doesnt want x please speak for yourself. Sure if you dont have other consoles or a pc that can play the games the line up would be exiting Battlefield 4 is going to be fun and so does other stuff to some people. Just enjoy games instead of all this madness. For example i am sure to enjoy my wii u and my vita although they dont sell well. Play games not Sales!!

he is a master troll. delivers every time. What happend to CEOkaz?
What's he going to say? "Yeah, we're fucked" that would be hilarious, though.
Wow, i guess i'm not a footballer then, since i don't play in the highest of leagues. And also, not a game developer, since i make my living making small casual games. Come to think of it, i'm not even a programmer, since i don't code in C sharp ;(((((
Am i even human ?
Nintendo should just kick Reggie. And make new IPs instead of making Remakes and Sequels.
So long story short: For this generation of consoles all 3 had crappy launch lineups.
You may not like them, but Nintendo has created a ton of IPs over the last two generations.
Wii Series, Xenoblade, X (arguably probably part of the Xenoblade franchise), Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Dillon's Rolling Western, Pushmo, Flingsmash, etc.
Quality varies, but the new IPs are there.
X (arguably probably part of the Xenoblade franchise)
No, just one.
It's a good lineup but, of course, they had an incredibly weak start to the system which put them in a rough spot. But nintendo has a better lineup, hes not wrong.

There's stuff on that list that isn't created by Nintendo.
Those are all Nintendo IPs.
Ok, the problem here is maybe the definition of gamer. I'm not an english native speaker, and where I live when we use the term "gamer" is to describe hardcore gamers. This is the most condescending post I've seen on GAF in a while. Please concisely define what gamer is without using games themselves as part of your definition.

If that's not the meaning a native english speaker uses, then what I mean instead of "not being a gamer" is "not being a hardcore gamer" but a casual. That's all, and this is why I said that there's nothing wrong in enjoying with cinematic experiences instead of enjoying with the game mechanics.

You're not contradicting what he said ya know.
It's a good lineup but, of course, they had an incredibly weak start to the system which put them in a rough spot.
The PS4 and XB1 are launching with a much better selection of games.
