More importantly, does the game play still hold up?
That's the thing about classic RE. Lots of the game design was archaic even at the time of its release, with clunky tank controls, save points and such. So in that regard, it's never really aged. Only the visuals.
I replayed RE2 and RE3 back-to-back a couple of years ago, for the first time since originally playing them, and enjoyed the hell out of both. Especially RE2. The controls are what they are, you if you were able to get on with them back in the day, they fell just the same now.

I thought this was going to be much more of a total redo. This leans much more on the GameCube version than I thought.
The modding community hasn't done a lot with Resident Evil games to my knowledge beyond texture and character mods. Nothing really that exciting. Will get on PS4 and play in 4:3, seems to be the ultimate way to play this game unless for some reason you really have faith in the modding community.
add in the Mercenaries Reunion DLC that was never ported to PC
It looks good, but it needs an option to turn on film grain.
You can buy the retail PS3 Asia-version here and play it in November already. The version has full English and Japanese text&audio. The cover comes with "biohazard" on the front and "Resident Evil" on the backside so you can swap it.Why are all the games I want early 2015? Fuck...
Jill is just... ungh!
Did anybody ever see this?

Looking forward to my copy.
Dangeous curves ahead.Jill looks thicker than a bowl of oatmeal in the ReRemake. Otherwise, I'm not super impressed.
Wait is this actually possible? That mode is the only reason I'm still holding onto my PS3 copy...

Also, that gif of the lighting issues is a major bummer.
I found what I was thinking of, it's actually called "Mercenaries Redemption" and it's apparently inspired by the Mercs Reunion.
Just watched it again, I am impressed with how the current-gen version looks. Don't know why IGN wasted so much time comparing pre-rendered videos though.
While it's obvious that it's technically worse, it looks more visually consistent in the screenshots than the PS4 version. PS4 character models stand out against the backgrounds too much. PS4 version looks good though.I actually prefer the GameCube version, surprisingly.
It must just be the grimier look of it.
Big booties are in, haven't you listened to the radio lately? They are just ahead of the curve and are in with the current trends...
Yep, I also hope it gets less dark to see more of dat detail.I actually prefer the GameCube version, surprisingly.

It looks great, but seems to be that their uprising touch up work is going well. If they had access to re-rendering the backdrops they would have likely properly reframed it for 16:9 instead of of needed to crop it from 4:3.
There's quite a gulf of difference between the backgrounds used and genuine hi-res. They're just upscaled as best they can be.
