Honestly, I don't see the point of a countdown or an "announcement of an announcement" for something like this.

They can put the video up on their site / YouTube channel, the gaming and tech sites will pick it up, and the mainstream news networks will run short segments with some variation of "Japanese video game maker Nintendo announced a new gaming system today". I mean, the 2DS announcement video has over 6 million views. That came out of nowhere.

Yeah...no. Nobody does this at all. It's their next gen hardware system. It's their core focus of their company. Nobody just out of nowhere uploads some video of their next system like it means nothing. They will give an announcement or whatever to give it some time for news to spread so people an get ready to watch the event or direct.

While likely fake like all leaks, this atleast seems realistic.

The Smash characters all seem like things they'd do. I totally expect an Atlus character, but Flynn instead of Yu would be odd since Persona 4 is Atlus's main thing. But that could be any number of reasons.

I totally expected the Grass Starter for Smash 5 once it was leaked, so that seemed obvious too. (If it has new characters, its Smash 5.)

Dixie Kong for fan support.

They've been pushing Toon Zelda more lately.

Inklings not being in would be the biggest wtf so no surprise there.

Tekken character due to Namco involvement, nothing really odd there.

Veterans are both obvious.

Metroid Prime 4 has been hinted at.

Nothing shocking about online after the January 2013 direct and TFH. More online stuff in Zelda lately.

New IP always happens at system reveals.

Fire Emblem Direct when even Fates didn't get one is kinda odd but nothing really out there.

The only thing that seems fake about this leak at first glance is Splatoon port. If its just a port thats weird as hell considering they stopped splatfests.

And finally, I personally wish its true since Smash characters would come to 3DS, even if N3DS only since I wouldn't have to restart my stats. Megaton for me regardless of characters. :D

But of course, anyone can write a fake list so 99% not real. But overall seems realistic except for Splatoon port when Splatfests have stopped, buy hey something like a offline Mario Maker is weird too...but they'd never do that. >_>

Edit: OH SHIT IT WAS TAKEN DOWN! HYPE HYPE HYPE!!!

Conference in September after TGS or October.

New Metroid
New Mario?
New IP
Splatoon port

Lol, so the guy who worked at Nintendo couldn't pin down an exact date.

I've been saying late September to early October alot so that people wouldn't get so thirsty waiting.

Now with the other guy mentioning that 10do was just making a joke video for September 6th, may as well just watch the PS4 Neo reveal to pass the time.

I'm still holding on to that Gameblog article that suggested the week of Sept 12 for a reveal. They were right about the Playstation Meeting, anyway.

Keep in mind that studios often work on ports to get a feel for new tech. Bethesda for example ported skyrim to ps4/Xbone equivalent systems before starting the process of getting fallout 4 going. Nintendo knows the wiiu sold like shit and sees an opportunity to provide some key new ips new life on the new hardware while not eating up a ton of resources and fluffing any would be dry spells for software.
I believe Splatoon fits the bill perfectly, if only because I really want Splatoon on handheld......

Okay.

They gave a one day notice for the Direct that reveal and/or announced;

Wind Waker HD
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Yoshi's Woolly World
SMTxFE

How's that?

THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT.

That direct was obviously haphazardly thrown together in an attempt to salvage good PR after a disappointing Wii U launch. So much of what was announced at that direct was not ready to be shown and that's why it took the better part of three years for everything in it to come out.

Not quite the same as a hardware announcement, where press events are standard and requires weeks of planning, a venue, invitations, etc. We should be hearing about this thing weeks in advance.

I guess modern Nintendo would be the company to break tradition and just blast out a direct with no press event, though. That'd be among the dumbest things they've ever done (which is saying something), but whatever.

If it actually is in the next two weeks, great. I very much doubt it.

That's still no reason for not giving more than a day's notice for such an epic direct.

Meh.

That direct announced a niche JRPG, a couple alpha screenshots for an HD remaster and a splash screen for a crossover game that wasn't even in development yet. It was "epic" for us and we were going to watch it and read about it immediately. I don't think it reflects the thought process of a company that is announcing new hardware. Literally the biggest thing a company like Nintendo does.

Hell, they've even announced a Direct for early November that will be nowhere near as exciting as that one.

Even taking all that into account, it doesn't cost them anything to give more than a one day notice. Plus like you said, the Direct was put together in an attempt to salvage the disastrous Wii U launch (going so far as to partially reveal their upcoming E3 plans, saying 3D Mario, Smash, and Mario Kart would be there), so you'd think it'd be real important to get the message out.

I'm not about to assume anything with regards to their marketing plans.

Probably won't use the custom screens anymore. Too pricy
Yeah, one conspicuously absent element in all the recent rumors is the irregular screen shape.

I was looking forward to it. Nintendo hasn't had a purely "cool factor" differentiator in a long time. Would've been a very eye-catching device at kiosks.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to donut screens.

Reveal on September 14th, same day as the launch of the GameCube, exactly one day before TGS.
That's in 10 days/under two weeks, I'm not sure they have enough time to do that. Even if it's just a digital event they'll need to invite the press over to play it and give impressions. I think they need to give a 2-3 week notice. At least I think that sounds right

At this rate, what are the odds the press has already played the NX and thus a stealth event is plausible?

Christ, you know things are getting dire when I'm even remotely entertaining the idea of such a thing happening.

Why are we expecting the reveal to a new system months before the largest selling season, a system that won't be launched until next year, and one that seemingly replaces the two systems Nintendo would like to sell @ this year's holiday?

Sony is at least going to announce the Slim, and hopefully the Neo is this holiday.

I mean, it makes little business sense. Unless they are confident that the Wii U and 3DS sales will only be marginally impacted.

Who's brought up the stupid 10do thing here? This is hoax. It's gonna be a Joke Video, so please you don't need to talk it here any further
Yes, although it's their fault in Terms of words but it's just got out of control since other media wrote about it. I know one of the Editors.

god, if that is true, then they really should get their sense of humor checked out.

Mainly because Eurogamer said so. Also somebody from Nintendo of Canada said they'd reveal the NX this fall.

Personally I doubt the Wii U is factoring much into their plans at all anymore, and Pokemon should sell 3DSs regardless of what else is going on.

What's this view based on, are they known to do stuff like this then?

He knows an editor there apparently. Still seems really strange that they'd pull a prank like that though, plus if they are trying to fool people why would an editor tell him ahead of time? Unless something is getting lost in translation here.

If they announce it next year by early January they'll have 2 months and a half at most to get preorders and stuff ready. That's not nearly enough time. Even by December it's very late. Wii U has like one game and 3DS has pokemon which will sell regardless. Might as well take any potential loss, but it's better than jeopardizing their next system that needs to have a great launch

They are announcing this month because it is roughly 6 months before the reveal. Most consoles have a marketing buildup at least 6 months prior to launch so consumers know what they are buying.

I think you mean launch. But yeah, I agree. I am 100% it will be announced this month.
