You can't blame people for not liking Carol Danvers when shes been written terribly for who knows how long.

So what's cool about her?

The hate I've seen has painted a picture of a character that's generic, has no real identity, and is inserted into stories in as subtle a way as a teenager might insert themselves into their power fantasy writings.

That would be dumb, because Carol's own (proximity to exploding Kree device) is fine enough.

By now though, we should be able to recognize that the worth of the comic iteration does not necessarily translate to the quality of the films based on those properties. So yeah, Carol might be pretty trash in the comics but that doesn't justify being so bitter about her getting a movie.
