My problem with the worst people on ResetEra (ignoring the trolls, shit-stirrers and such) is that they don't seem to realise they're pushing us toward yet another re-imagining of that authoritarian hellscape where innocent, decent human beings turn on each other and attack at the slightest hint of wrong speak or thought crime.
And that's not even an exaggeration. It's already happening on there, and on other social media sites, and it's even bleeding into the real world. We're not quite at the stage of outright paranoia between friends and family members, where people live in fear of one wrongly worded opinion being reported... and they suddenly find themselves bound and bundled off to the re-education camps. We're not there yet. But I honestly think that we are on the path that always leads there in the end.
It might not happen this time, but I do worry about it a little bit. And I bet a lot of these morally pure wokesters (the type who thrive on Era) would gladly walk us all down that path, arm in arm, with joy in their hearts, convinced that their intentions were as pure as the driven snow.
Hopefully our society is strong enough to push back against it this time.
