That one's trivial indeed. Did they ask you your political leaning? Did they force you to take a side? Because, from what I saw, you were making a giant OT and offered all kinds of support, compromises, allowing all kinds of derails on your threads too. Let's say you voted Trump (you didn't, I know) - how does that disable you from making a good Cyberpunk thread? How does that mean you can't be supporting TransEra's fight? Tweets from 3 years ago... we had people in here 3 years ago, when the Era split happened, posting literal pornography, disgusting photoshops and insults aimed at this site's founder and users. Why would it matter if you "made a mistake" 3 years back if their errors on Gaf are not relevant? Or how B-Dubs has been trigger happy with the n-word in here?
I know, rhetorical questions, we know the answer. Still, to them, it's currently the new normal that even if you are with them, if you've once said something they don't like (on Era or otherwise), you're forever marked and deserve a permaban. People can't make a mistake and improve as human beings: did something dumb (to them) once or twice, you're forever done for. And in the end, that's what's going on with Cyberpunk too. The "did you assume our gender" tweet was a bit childish, but not malicious. The attack helicopter was definitely in poor taste, and the person was removed from his job for it. That's fucking it. The whole "mix it up" ads, the fact a woman dared cosplaying a trans character and such - these are just obvious attempts to find transphobia where they can't point out real cases in the game.
And to think that... there would be legitimate reasons to discuss about the creation of games. The unsustainability of triple-A gaming. The crunching. How some of the industry's best developers are receiving very low wages for the category on the account of living in Poland. The ridiculously early announcement and extreme hype cycle. The many delays. The worrying performance on last-gen consoles that were supposed to be the target hardware for this game. These aren't reasons to cancel the game, but they would make good discussions, regardless of which ones you find bad or agree with. But no, Era chose to chase ghosts instead, trying to find offensive material by cherrypicking social commentary in a dystopian future where everything and everyone is spectacularized and sexualized. From what we've seen, the game is not transphobic, unless it also hates gay people, males, females, rich, poor, migrants: since, you know, it's a dystopian game extremizing and exagerating a lot of things from our society.
You were mistreated on ResetEra, thrown out after thousands of posts in good faith. It's an old tale, many other people in this thread have been banned for asking a question, for questioning moderation, for posting one dumb joke or posting a take that was allowed by moderation days prior but suddenly they realized the statement is literally worse than Hitler so now it's a bannable offense. It sucks, because you were not paid by Era or CDPR to dedicate your time and energy to help the community get informed about Cyberpunk 2077, but you did it anyway. That's what people do for a community they enjoy. I know, I did it myself there. But shows how much they care and respect their userbase when they're ready to nuke prominent and helpful members for one mistake, when several staff members literally insult forum members on the Discord, where they constantly use off-site info they gathered about you without your permission, trying to own you on-site.
It's a place ran by vile people, who don't care about who's who in real life. They only care about adapting to their style, messaging and thinking on the forum. And now, outside of the forum too. Say or think the wrong thing, and the years of good you did are deleted in a second. Unless you're a VIP member of course, in which case you can harass and doxx members, leak private convos, insult anybody, wish death on folks you hate, derail every thread, bait folks into getting banned, and so on. And I'm only picking from episodes that happened last week!
I'm not gonna stan for GAF, I'm doing baby steps here myself so I can't champion for a place that I'm not familiar with yet. But regardless of what my experience will be, I can wish you the best of luck in discussing a game you are clearly hyped for here, without getting judged for dumb tweets from years ago, as if those tweets mean anything in your excitement for a videogame. Era sucked out the joy of discussing games. I think me and you both are here trying to find it back.
