I know this was a few pages ago, but holy shit is it funny to see Era go after the tall vampire/witch lady in RE8. Those guys have never seen a woman, let alone attractive woman, in their lives and so they get into a frenzy when the Internet starts to get remotely horny over a legitimately sexy character design. Sexualization is by no means degradation yet these weirdos who are constantly angsty about gender cannot handle the completely normal human emotion of sexual attraction. It's a remarkably sex negative forum, which ironically contradicts what actual progressives and leftists stand for (Isn't the LGBT community extremely open about sex in the first place? So many LGBT people are outspoken about porn and whatnot, which would go against the strangely puritanical approach Era, an alleged safe haven for that demographic.). I'm glad Capcom is embracing the internet's reaction instead of kowtowing to these freaks. Another funny thing about Era's reaction is how there are many prominent female personalities who are promoting the sexualization of that character, too and also think she's hot. Suzi Hunter (The Sphere Hunter) loves the tall lady and shares sexualized imagery of the character. Is she degrading herself, too?
It's this reactionary culture that "feminist" figures like Sarkeesian cultivated in the gaming community that confuses the shit out of me. I'm happy it's obviously in the small minority, but man is that group irrational about sex. Sex is fucking normal! Go outside! Stop self-flagellating for finding women hot! They're supposed to be hot! Just accept that sexualized characters isn't a bad thing and stop wearing your goddamn chastity belt. It's clear many of them have never fucked in their lives as well and are actively afraid of sex, too. But that's a discussion for another day. It's just remarkable to see such regressive ideas in a forum that brandishes itself with wokeness and "inclusiveness". No wonder these guys feel miserable with themselves. They don't understand how life works!

Another movie in the works for this villain and I don't understand it. Even in the white washed version dude is out here using slave labor and enslaving indigenous people. It was apparently worse in the OG telling of the story too...

Much like the politics board, this thread serves as an outlet to keep the reset complaining contained. While I personally feel like having it around is like an umeeded ball and chain of emotional baggage, nuking it would probably cause those emotions to spill over in other threads. Keeping it around has slightly more utility than not having it. I do agree that things can get overly negative in here, which is not healthy, and can lead to very personal attacks, and borderline doxing. Those overly negative aspects can be more strictly moderated while keeping the utility of this thread intact, IMO. Sometimes people need to be reminded that mocking the insufferable negative nancies over there is moot if one is just going to be a slightly less insufferable negative nancy over here.
Personally I'd prefer this thread focus on the things that make GAF awesome moreso than the things that make other places on the internet not so awesome, but complaining is an inevitable aspect of human nature.

Abit late to the party here, but I'm all for keeping the thread. Sure there's been times when Evilore has had to step in and tell people to simmer down regarding Taysan, but it's been few and far between and bans are handed out fast when someone really crosses the line.

I actually read this again recently to my kids. Yeah, the Oompa Loompa's lives sucked. They jumped at the chance to live and work at Wonka's factory. For them it was basically like winning the lottery.
If Era wants to talk about Wonka being 'problematic', there's some pretty sketchy stuff in the Great Glass Elevator with the Chinese leader, going into 'me so solly' territory. Product of its time though.

Real talk is that they adored her because she has weird grey skin, large frame, very tall, has a hair style that looks like an undercut with the hat on and has a bit of a manly frame so they adopted her as their own weird non cute female, that was different from all the other 'females' out there. They thought all these things would put people off liking her and so she would be a protected outlier that they could argue was attractive and a good break from traditional waifu design.
Then when they realised no one was arsed and loads of people were just blown away by the rack on her (cos she's a ......um......real woman) and started internet fantasising about her, they became bitter and then looked for problematic stuff with her. And the thread (and mantra) changed course.
As for Wonka, yeah you can just pull the film transcript (not even the book) for the pertinent details
- Loompaland is a terrible place because of the snozzwangers and whangdoodles, who were terrible beasts that terrorized the Oompa Loompas and they had nothing to eat.
- All the Oompa-Loompas wanted to eat was the cacao bean, which, Wonka explains, is what chocolate is made of.
- So Wonka brokered a deal with them: if they would come back and work for him, they could have all the chocolate they wanted.
