Resident Evil 2 Remake |OT| Party like it's 1998

I proposed this to be the case somewhere on here already, but someone went to confirming it was true. Mr.X does speed up when not in range, which is why he comes back so quickly.

Hardcore mode has too many herbs. I have like 5 G+R+B herbs collecting dust in my item box.

Did anyone else notice Claire's high capacity magzine was in the confiscation safe? Nice touch LOL

Do you use any of the speedrunner strategies for the first Birkin fight? I know nothing about it personally, but maybe someone like distortion2 has a strategy that could be consistent for you with your already insane clear times. Though, he's on the PC version where running 120fps makes the knife do more damage, so I don't know if it translates to the console version well or not.

I still knife him since it does a ton of damage even without the glitch. I might try his grenade approach though. I wanted to keep my flash grenade so I dont have to deal with the randomness of the last dog juke but it might not be worth saving it.

EDIT: Yeah, that went super smoothly. I'm only a minute and a half behind the WR pace now.

Carcinogen is doing 60fps speedrun guides soon for console players. You cant knife birkin 1's shoulder as fast as pc.

God bless the Pro and the X, otherwise consoles would be in the 25fps ghetto for so many games.

I still find it strange that the community is allowing the knife glitch but whatever.

Daaaamn. If you're only a minute and a half behind the PC WR then can it even get much better than that without the framerate glitch? Are you our resident PS4 WR holder? lol

nah, I'm going off the PS4 record. Knife glitch and mouse aiming speed up the PC times way too much for a remotely fair comparison.

As for the knife I just find messing with framerate or other performance settings to gain an advantage to be a bit suspect compared to the usual kind of glitches.

I've reached the giant alligator section (on hardcore). The final part of the Mr. X encounter was hilarious, i.e. a literal "control your fear" trial whereby running into Mr. X & getting tossed to the ground (before running around him) is far, far preferable to backtracking towards the jail cells & having a party with the 1000+ (it seemed that way) zombies infesting the corridor. That strategy would require a flash grenade (which I didn't have). It's still rather forgiving though, because the devs gave Leon a nice & welcome first aid spray in he reporter's cell before that final Mr. X face-off (thus allowing Leon to sustain some damage in the ensuing chaos & not die).

(spoiler warning) Now I'm with Ada & I must admit, this is the first time Mr. X has become too much. He really is the freaking xenomorph from alien. I feel there needed to be a small change of pace after leaving the police station.

I found the meeting that you have with him as ada to be pretty straightforward to be honest. Only died once.

That's good to know. I won't complain (I chose hardcore difficulty for my first playthrough, i.e. I reap what I sow), but, I hadn't hacked the electronic door mechanism before he showed up so I died & had to do the entire section again (dodging the zombies downstairs). Then once through that door on my second attempt, the fucker followed Ada inside I didn't even have an ink ribbon to save with. I noped out & will retry again later.

If you go fast enough you can be long gone before he even reaches the door.

Err I need help. In my haste to get my standard S rank I've made it all the way to G2 Birkin without picking up the grenade launcher or sub-machine gun. How screwed am I? The reason I skipped the g launcher is cuz someone said I could pick it up near the Sparkshot, but it wasn't there.

Got 1000G on Xbox one X. All achievements unlocked. Now waiting for DLC:lollipop_horns::lollipop_sunglasses:

Got all the achievements on steam. I've only aced all the achievements on Assassins Creed 2, Megaman 10 and now RE2. Only reason I tried to get them is because it unlocks gallery stuff in game.

I think you might be screwed son. How much ammo you got? Also G2 is the one with the crane right? If you have a save before that you can always run back to the RPD and get all that stuff, should be able to do it quickly to maintain the S rank just plan your route.

Sparkshot should be enough along with your handgun. You can get 4 maybe 5 full sparkcharge hits on his Arm eye before dropping down the container area. After try to stun him using the handgun and knock him off with container. As for the rest of the game if you pick enough grenades and all the sparkshot ammo you should still have a shot. Biggest problem will be the licker room and the plants. do you have the heavy pistol and ammo?

If you're on standard it should certainly be doable without backtracking.

Thankfully I've been using my all my saves so I can easily roll back if I need to. I'm currently at 55mins so maybe I'll just run back and get it? I have about 40-50 handgun bullets, 7 sparkshots, 3 high powered rounds, 4 grenades, 1 flash, some gun powder including one heavy, and 4 mixed herbs.

Just the standard run. I'm onkay for the Lickers cause I just walk around them. I'm more worried about the Ivy Zombies lol. I'll try using your strat for Birkin though. I did hear that you can easily kill him with just the flash grenades if you time the crane correctly?

U can kill bosses with pistol but it takes longer to bring em down.

Fight will be more challenging now.

I picked up all weapons and still managed S rank with ease. If u memorize correct path and shortcuts then it's a breeze. S playthrough is recommended when u have good knowledge of map and items

As long as it's doable and I haven't inadvertently created a fail state for myself I'll just keep banging my head til I kill him lol

btw before the main G2 fight are you supposed to walk out of the way of the celing claw or run? I find I get hit way more when I'm running. Is it a silence thing like the Lickers?

You want to walk mostly so that he does the multiple slashes instead of the running one. The multi slashes ends with him slamming his right arm down which is the best time to hit the eye with the spark shot.

Stand in the corner with the door that he busts through and face the center of the room.

There are two animations the ceiling claw will do- a simple in-wait-out, and one that comes in, pauses, then waves around a bit before retracting. You're 100% safe from the former while in the corner, and can dodge the latter by taking a couple of steps to the left and then returning to the corner.

After he stops, wait on the left side of the door to scoot past as soon as he breaks in. Job's a good 'un.

You can just stand against the wall next to the green hose, side closest to the puzzle, and he'll never hit you.

Sounds like you got plenty of ammo, still I'd want to run back to the RPD and get the grenade launcher at least because acid rounds are invaluable against later Birkin fights. They do a damn good job of stunning him.

On the G2 fight, you can either hit him with the crane multiple times or shoot him until his eye is red to one hit him with the crane. ALWAYS aim for the eye.

Nothing will be as amazing as was ps1 times and re , silent hill , mgs times, gt times , its no way anything can get closer to that. How much new IP's we got last couple yrs?

I can't think of better time of horror games then the PS1, PS2. All the RE games and silent hill games. After that games like slender man and five nights at freddy's just turned into jump scares. I also didn't care for amnesia or scp, games with no combat.

So I'm doing my Hardcore Claire run going for S rank. I'm just about to get the Queen and King Chess pieces and I'm at the 1 hour mark. I wish I hadn't wasted so much time killing zombies with my infinite samurai edge cause I think I lost a good 15-20 minutes. I need either a confidence boost or a reality check. Can I still hit S?

That should be plenty of time for S.

I was at 2 hours on my first Claire run by that point and I managed to get to the end of the game by about 3:34. Just 4 minutes from the S rank. You should have *plenty* of time to reach S Rank.

So I finished A and B, I like to take my time. No spiders. I am dissapoint. Apart from that, great, although im sure the last bosses on B just let me empty all my ammo before dying, rather than having set HP.

Just finished Leon on Veteran. Boy this was hard 😬

But I have to admit, Platin is not possible for me, do not have enough skills to finish the game without using a healing item.

Overall, the game is high motivation for me.

That stops being a problem once you unlock an infinity weapon like the LE 5.

Ghost survivor details from the ps blog

"Think you’ve seen everything Raccoon City has to offer? Think again, as The Ghost Survivors comes to PS4 on February 15 as a free update for Resident Evil 2. This set of stories provides “what if” scenarios for characters you encounter throughout the main game, providing an alternate look at what things might have been like if they survived the horrors of Raccoon City.
There’s a good chance you’ve seen or played The 4th Survivor, a tough-as-nails additional mode that follows Umbrella Security Services (U.S.S.) agent Hunk as he escapes from the depths of the city in order to complete his mission, or The Tofu Survivor, a non-canon gameplay mode which follows a particularly determined block of bean curd doing its best to avoid certain death (and maybe being sautéed with some vegetables and spices). The Ghost Survivors has a similar premise – escape from Raccoon City by any means necessary – but this time, you’ll be playing as three characters that never survived that fateful night:
No Time to Mourn
features Robert Kendo, owner of the famous (and aptly named) Gun Shop Kendo. Those who have played the game may already know how his sad tale ends, but in The Ghost Survivors, he’s given a second chance when an old friend with a helicopter radios in to pick him up. Packing up what weapons he can, Kendo sets out into the streets to seek a way out from the infected city. On his way, a new type of poisonous zombie stands between him and freedom.
Way before the events of Resident Evil 2 took place, the fate of the mayor’s daughter, Katherine, was already sealed. In
Runaway, her story takes her down a very different path. Seeking to escape Raccoon City with a certain someone, Katherine Warren must navigate the streets while avoiding a strangely mutated type of zombie that can only be stopped with particularly powerful ammunition. Play carefully, and you might survive.
Out of the shadows comes a forgotten U.S.S. agent. Thought to have been wiped out with his squad, the appropriately named Ghost makes his debut in
Forgotten Soldier. Deep within the laboratory underneath the city, another soldier (besides Hunk) attempts his escape. Having to deal with hordes of monsters is bad enough, but what do you do when they’re covered in armor? This especially challenging scenario will put even The 4th Survivor veterans to the test.
Finish each scenario on its regular difficulty, or give them a shot in the unique Training mode. Unlike other modes, Training will lower the difficulty a bit by giving you additional items and item slots to start out with, and makes a great way to learn enemy positions and routes before you tackle each scenario on their standard, more challenging difficulty. It’s also a great way to understand some of the mechanics of The Ghost Survivors. Unlike The 4th Survivor and The Tofu Survivor, you can pick up more than the items you start with, but instead of finding items in the environment, you’ll find pickups by defeating specific zombies with backpacks, or grabbing items out of vending machines. Choose carefully, though; once you take an item from a vending machine, you’re locked out of the other two items for that run! Plan ahead, and you just might make it through.
There’s plenty to do across these three “what if” scenarios. Alongside bragging rights for completing each scenario, you’ll also have access to fun new challenges and trophies specific to The Ghost Survivors. Completing challenges will unlock accessories to decorate your character, including a tiger mask, a cuddly raccoon that sits on your character’s head, and more! Go for the high score, the fastest time, or see how many challenges (and accessories) you can unlock.
Three imaginative scenarios await you in The Ghost Survivors, out February 15 as a free update for Resident Evil 2 on PlayStation 4. Don’t forget to swing by the PlayStation Store to grab free ’98 Costumes for Claire and Leon, also available on the 15th. These costumes are just as polygonal as you remember from the original Resident Evil 2 on PlayStation, and make for a great nostalgia trip. See you all in Raccoon City."

... so I guess this will be like 4th Survivor but with the ability to pick up stuff. Again it's one of those modes that's for speed running. Why not have something based on accuracy or enemieus killed. Speedrunning is boring. But it's free and can't wait to play it!

In my first playthrough, I went Leon A Hardcore and I wouldn't have made it if there were any less healing items. Hardcore is hardcore, but it's still designed around some players going straight for it and learning on the job. Which is why it isn't locked behind a first playthrough on Standard.

Here's hoping Capcom comes up with a difficulty that challenges even people who have finished the game multiple times!

Save plenty and use unlimited weapons while taking your time on Assisted/Normal. Super easy to do! Honestly I find it easier than doing the S+ rank Hardcore runs.

But isn't that when he is actually searching for you (like he heard a shot) instead of patrolling?
