Resident evil 4 GC vs ps2

How do you think the ps2 port would compare to the GC orginal?

Almost perfect ( like viewtiful Joe) or horrible (like ps2 wreckless, compare to xbox version)

RE4 moves a lot of polygons at 30 fps with good but not spectacular textures.
That really comes in help of a PS2 porting.I think it will be a good port.

I think people who are concerned about this would be a lot less so after playing the demo. It's far more interesting artistically than technically.

Don't really care because I'll be buying it for the Gamecube no matter what. But have they even released pics of the PS2 version yet?

I don't really get why anybody would risk waiting for the PS2 version to play a dumbed down version with load times all over the place. VJ was a 2D game and it had load times longer than the Gamecube version. So your comparing RE4 to a 2D game and want to know how its going to fair. :lol :lol :lol

I guess if your desperate enough to wait a year and don't mind lackluster graphics and waiting for the levels to load then the PS2 version could be decent. They might even throw in Dante in skimpy clothing like they did for the PS2 VJ version. :lol

On a side not I thought everyone on here was a "real" gamer who bought the best versions of games because they had all the systems. All 3 of them are cheap enough so you shouldn't have to play crappy ports just because you only support one console. If your doing that then your not a gamer because no gamer would prefer to play a GOTY title like RE4 on something that it wasn't even made for.

wont be much of a difference, RE4 is doing nothing on GC the PS2 cant work with.

texture quality is not RE4's strong point anyway so the port should be good.

If you don´t care why do you writing in this thread?

I also mentioned Wreckless, it was only examples of one game which was a good port and one that sucked bad.

Being 2D has nothing to do with that.

None of us will know until we see the game in action on the PS2 and not just screenshots that will be cleaned up in photoshop. Anyway, the GC will be the platform of choice for the game. It was built from the ground up for the machine and will be the premo platform.

Alot of folks confusing 2D gameplay and 2D graphics.....

VJ is most definitely a game utilising 3D graphics. The gameplay just happens to be represented in 2D.

When I look how good certain developers are able push the ps2 hardware I am pretty sure the PS2 port of RE4 will look pretty much the same as the Gamecube version. Maybe it'll have a few slowdowns now and then.

the difference ?

one will look like crap and one will sell 10 times more than the other that's the difference.

don´t get tired of your self sometime? If you think it would look like crap can´t you atleast have some arguments why?

Or is it the old "I love my favorite console and all others sucksssss"......

I doubt the PS2 version will look as good. Similar titles from Capcom such as Onimusha 3, Resident Evil Outbreak and Demento don't even come close and they were designed with the PS2 in mind. Also, whereas Kobayashi stated that the VJ and K7 ports would look equal on both platforms when the PS2 ports were announced he has made no such statement in regards to RE4.

why would you want to wait 10-12 months extra for this game when you have the option to buy it in 1 month.

maybe because he doesn't want to spend 170$ just to play one game?
He would if the PS2 version was coming out first, but since the GameCube version will be first, he'll only have to spend an extra 79.99$ for a reburfished GameCube at Gamestop.com...

I see that many people forget how easy it is now to install PS2 games on a HDD and get very quick load times. That's one thing I certainly don't see being an issue when it comes to RE4 port.

Just go out and buy a GameCube if you haven't already. Two of the best games for 2005 are Resident Evil 4 and the new Zelda, so it's worth the small investment required for the system. Go grab a Mario Kart bundle before they're all gone(apparently Nintendo's done shipping them).

Since the Gamecube version is incomplete, it's not surprsing that some people want to wait for the real, complete version. :)

The platform that the engine is built for and the tech specs that the game is built for, on average is the best platform for the game. The fact that it won't be out for 9-10 months after the GC version and it might not even be released at all. Just because it is announced doesn't mean it will be released.

It also depends on the scheduled launch of the PlayStation 3 and if the new system is backward compatible...

incomplete? how? Ah you mean extra content. It has never been announced that the PS2 would get extra content, and if it has you better give me a link to the source.

It actually was. In one of the interviews, game's director said that they'll be adding extra stuff since the port is coming later down the line.

Knowing Capcom they will relrelease the game 10 times :p

PS2 version wont look that good compare to GC technically. They will most certainly lower the framerate too.

I don't see why the PS2 version is going to look terribly different, but it may. Expect longer load times and other things that are limited by PS2's hardware. Capcom may churn out a sloppy port, though, the company isn't exactly the king of polish.

When will Demento be released? It may give us a good idea of what the PS2 will be capable off for Resident Evil 4...

Just because I don't care for the people buying this on the PS2 because I'm getting the Cube version doesn't mean I can't offer my opinion. Like I said we haven't even SEEN ANYTHING of the PS2 version so nobody on here can tell you what you want to hear.

From IGN on the differences between the Cube and PS2 version of VJ:

"As for the differences between the PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions technologically, there are a few -- specifically in terms of slowdown and transparency. Later levels, in particular, boast occasional chugs in the action that weren't present in Nintendo's effort. While several objects that enjoyed translucent statuses in the GCN rendition were solidified to cut down on used resources. Another little difference we noticed is that it appears the PS2 version doesn't support progressive scan like the Cube game did. Though, it is possible that pro-scan support could be in there as a hidden command that we just haven't figured out yet."

So with that said I highly doubt the PS2 version will even be onpar with the Cube version and its coming out much later. The only people that should even be thinking about getting the PS2 verion are people with only a PS2. Its common sense most games that come out on the PS2, Cube, and Xbox that are equally made look better on the Xbox, then Cube, then the PS2. So the Cube version of this looking better shouldn't be a shock to anybody.

Where did you see that? That's what concerns me about getting the GC version. To me at least, it's worth the wait, the load times, and graphical differences if the PS2 version is going to have added content over the GC version.

If there's ANY hint of added content, I'm going to at least wait and see what is being added before I get the GC version.

What's wrong with textures? I find the texturing quite nice on some of the face models during cut scenes, like this one:

:lol there are actually people who will wait a year for a much inferior version of the game. No surprise really ;)

you're an idiot. dumbest post in this thread.

and if you buy a cube now from gamestop. The MKDD bundle comes with 2 games (xmas bonus) for the princely sum of $99+ship+tax

meh, I'll just wait fo the PS2 version, its like buying a DVD, some people rush out and buy the regular version while others wait for some Special or Director's Cut version, I always do the latter

Obviously, it's possible to take advantage of the Playstation 2 hardware and deliver a worthwhile port. Although the game is being developed with the GameCube in mind and will thus surely take a hit in the visuals department, I'm sure that Playstation 2 owners will be happy with whatever worthwhile extras come their way. Of course, in the most simplest of terms it's easy to assume that because the game will be downgraded aesthetically, it's worthless but perhaps whatever Capcom adds will be able to compensate for the limitations of the hardware. As others have pointed out, buying a GameCube isn't exactly hard on the pocket and many hardcore Resident Evil fans have already purchased one just for the sake of playing the series. So, I'm sure Capcom will take that into consideration when adding new content to the game.

The textures in RE4 aren't that impressive, while the character modeling is no better than what's been seen in some of the best looking efforts on the PS2. As always, the image quality in the PS2 port will likely take a hit. Besides that, I expect the PS2 port to look fairly unchanged when it arrives.

my guess is: PS2 version will:
* suffer from lower framerate (25-30fps fps instead of mostly 30fps)
*have more slowdown / frame-stutter than GC ver
*have similar but slightly worse textures
*have significantly longer/more load times

I'll get the Gamecube version, thanks. if the PS2 ver has more content, I'll wait for the GC directors cut or whatever since Capcom likes rereleasing RE so many times.
