Better wording. I agree. They're not shit but they're criminally overrated by everyone here.

In recent years, the discourse around games has become such a joke. This absurd dance of fan ownership and "hot takes" that really amount to spending a lot of time framing whatever's in front of you in a thoughtleasly negative way.
A REmake replay (my fifth or so, probably) was my most recent run through an RE game. Before that, RE6 for the second time.
RE7 has:
-A single, large location as the setting.
-Enemies appear in low numbers; horror is worked up from the appearance of one zombie, mainly.
-Puzzles. Tons of seemingly disconnected items, and you figure out their use through exploration.
-Limited perspective. Derives horror from what you can't see as much as what you can.
-Mysterious characters that appear in pictures and notes, for you to piece together what's happening yourself.
RE6 had none of the above. But RE1 has all of this. And arguably these are the key elements of that game above all, with one exception: combat. And combat is in the game, just not in the demo area.
For all of this return to form, the one unfamiliar aspect is literally all that some of you are able to process. It's first person. Which really, is a clever way to return to the limited camera angles from the original RE games without also bringing back the tank control setup.
There is no trace of hide and seek gameplay. The demo is all the elements of RE1 sans combat. The primary gameplay is collecting items and solving puzzles, which is the most prominent aspect of RE1. And, again, we know combat is there in the final game.
So these rants about this being some generic indie YouTube bait, and "not RE" ring hollow to me. Its set in the same universe. And has a style that calls back to the first game in the series. And quite quickly introduces you to a zombie attack.
Literally, make it a third person game and the PewDiePie talk dies off. But I'm sure many of you would find another aspect to harp on, now that RE6 is suddenly a "true RE game" I'm everybody's minds.
Like back then with Resident Evil 4?None of the thing you mentioned makes this demo a RE game in the slightest
it's still not a RE game period even it it ended up 100/100 on metacritic.
If you find super obtuse puzzles with no hints on what you probably should be even trying to do good then sure the puzzle design is excellent. To me it is really bad puzzle design. Then there are other things that make me really not happy..
And that means what to rest of the world? if the EU demo has the EU code and so on, then yeah.Someone spotted a BIG HINT that might suggest Resident Evil 7 will come with a demo of REmake 2:

No way this is a coincidence. They just dont care about EU versions. And that means what to rest of the world? if the EU demo has the EU code and so on, then yeah.
but this just a coincidence.

PT had a lot mystery in a short confined space and was generally unnerving, this has none of that.Somehow people praise PT like a second coming of Jesus with its super obtuse puzzle. The whole internet even try to help solving it.
Nope, as a fan of Resident Evil you should know what a Resident Evil game is and should know straight away that even with a 3rd person view, this isn't Resident Evil.So the only thing that made RE, RE was seeing your character on screen? Is Mega Man RE?
I don't think care about 90009 either. No way this is a coincidence. They just dont care about EU versions.

Seriously? The random number that pops up on screen and is the exact serial number of a previous game (with announced remake coming) is a coincidence? And that means what to rest of the world? if the EU demo has the EU code and so on, then yeah.

Perhaps the final game will have it atmosphere, but Nothing other then a picture with an Umbrella logo on it resembles Resident Evil.
But it means nothing the rest of world, Japan where the Demo first went up wouldn't understand it, EU second place it pop up means nothing.Seriously? The random number that pops up on screen and is the exact serial number of a previous game (with announced remake coming) is a coincidence?
Say what you will about Capcom but their games are made by people who love their franchises and slip in as many Easter eggs/nods as possible for their fans. Something RE2 is coming
Example please and I too have been playing RE since 1996.This felt 100% like RE to me, and I've been playing RE since the first game.

The same thing that makes a Sonic game a Sonic game. Then please , in your own words explain : What makes a Resident evil Game a Resident evil game ?
better yet , let me put that question at everyones feet .

For one, those games don't have combat or shooting/guns. RE7 does. Only thing keeping me on hook is what they will show of the actual game. I am genuinely curious as to how they plan to stand out of the aforementioned games.
For one, those games don't have combat or shooting/guns. RE7 does
Why can't the limited ammo and resource management of classic Resident Evil be done in first person? In what ways does the shift in perspective prevent that combat pacing? Being first person and having guns doesn't mean it suddenly turns into DoomCombat in First person never worked for me and when speaking of it reminds me of dishonored, with its janky camera shake of a combat. And if you add guns, well add another to the first person shooter pile.
Isn't it obvious? The title of the franchise being used in many games with wildly varying gameplay styles and design approaches.which is ?

I think they're going to do some really interesting things with the videotape narrative in this game, allowing the player to affect the present by doing things in the tapes. And also the presence of the ghost only in the tapes could indicate that the 'supernatural element' only shows up on celluloid, not 'real life'. This could mean that the scares could really ramp up in the tape sections in RE7 because they can incorporate all kinds of supernatural stuff, and then make the present day stuff about being stalked by psychos or something.
I sure do wish they would show this stuff off, right now this game looks like trash to me.
But it means nothing the rest of world, Japan where the Demo first went up wouldn't understand it, EU second place it pop up means nothing.
But an easter egg that only America will get?
You might be right and they excluded the rest of the world but I doubt it.

The "it's not Resident Evil" comments will never make sense to me. This is a Resident Evil game, this is what the Resident Evil people want to do. If you don't like it that's fine but nobody outside of Capcom gets to decide what is or isn't Resident Evil.

I just finished and this is the most classic Resident Evil since Code Veronica. This is AMAZING!
I just don't get the people claiming RE7 is not a RE game. What's a RE game supposed to be like? There's already a huge difference between the original RE and something like RE4 or RE6.
How is fucking ignorance on my part? Because I recognize that it means nothing to 70% of the world? This is just willful ignorance on your part.
Agreed. I loved it. Spooky and atmospheric.
It does need some throwbacks to previous RE games, like healing with herbs and safe/save rooms with soothing music. Those would still fit perfectly and pay homage to previous games.
Idiots are just bitching because they hate change.
Which is stupid because Resident Evil was stale as as hell and desperately needed change.
