Long impressions...

FightyF, what is your medic/specops/soldier level in co-op ?

The enemies do rush into buildings (if you're in one), and they do surround you. IMHO, the enemy AI has improved noticeably. The only AI flaw is the stationery Stalker. Even the Titans have started to move around and target folks (They need to increase the aggression though). The rest of the Chimeran army (Steelheads, hybrids, alpha grims) is more aggressive and sneaky now. I am impressed by them. They will track you down over a longer distance, flank you, storm into your position (even if you're in a building), and use Auger to flush you out.

EDIT: In fact, I am at the point where I'm looking for good co-op players to play. Everyone needs to know what they are doing to defeat the Chimera. They are definitely very competent now.

After spending some time in the beta.... i've come to realize that this game feels like an entirely different experience and game style from the first... not sure if I like it or not yet

Anyone else feeling like what the fuck is the point of this?

I am enjoying it but, when I finish playing a match and especially one I did good at then I get kicked to the main menu at the end of it, all alone going through my head " what a waste of time, I accomplished nothing"

It has to do with the beta not having the leveling system in, or the stats being recorded or any type of unlockables/challenges that makes you feel you have some objectives to do when playing online.

Did anyone notice the parallax mapping in the co-op level with the small rocks? You can check it out at the part where you just come out of the small building (after beating that miniboss) and there are two of the big bosses (not sure what they're called). It seems a shame that the height of the parallax map wasn't punched up a bit to make it more noticeable. It also makes me think there is more tech in this game than it might seem at first glance.

If you're talking about co-op, you do get special equipments, abilities and weapons as you level up. The AI becomes more challenging too.

The ladder system is there too (but probably not turned on in beta).

I've made that distinction since day one. It's a combination of slower character movement, shots per minute being lower on Carbine and other weapons, look sensitivity. Chicago is a sniper galore, just terrible.

Yeah, dude, it's a beta. You will gain XP in the final. Matchmaking servers still are either offline or just not functioning properly. They worked beautifully in the original game, though, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

In other news, I am becoming a beast with the Auger.

i'm a bullseye guy. it's not really powerful and in the long distance it sucks, but i'm learning how to use it in the mid to short distance and liking it very much.

I think I might buy Warhawk soon.

Warhawk is still #1. Based on the beta, CoD4 MP is better than R2 but I eventually lost interest in that when I realized that pretty much every round played out the same way - people were taking the same routes, using the same hiding places, etc. Warhawk is much more dynamic, IMO.

Well. I'm officialy fed up.

I'm actually having a total blast with the competitive, but if the horrendous, gamebreaking aim magnetism is not patched before beta ends, I'm afraid I can't in good conscious buy the game. It's just AWFUL.

LOL. It was only a matter of time. You do this with basically EVERY multiplayer shooter. You start off liking it and then dwell on one flaw that MAKES THE WHOLE GAME BROKEN AND YOU CAN'T PLAY ANYMORE AAAHAAAAAHHH. You did it with R1, you did it with Gears and I'm sure there are others.

I'm still trying to figure out WHAT it is that isn't clicking....Maybe overall, it's just not exciting =/

as far as i can tell, the projectiles from the weapons aren't modeled anymore and are now some fancy particle effect. this can explain the loss of oomph in the weapons.

R1 had a far stronger aim assist. It completely locks on your opponent.

About grenades:

There is no indicator for spike grenades. There needs to be SOME kind of indicator for when spike grenades are thrown - a sound effect, SOMETHING. You can both hear and see when the air-fuel nades are thrown and OCCASIONALLY there is an indicator for the frag 'nade, but damn ... seeing your body blown into gibs from some randomly thrown spike grenade is pretty frustrating.

I'm playing KZ 2 and the sound indicator for when a frag is thrown is beautiful - you hear that thing click and you know it's time to get the fuck out.

Ugh, no. I played R1 on and off for a year. I never made any post about not ever playing it again. I just moved on.

Gears was broken AS A GAME. It COULD be fun, but the host advantage and other netcode issues made it a completel nightmare. I've never seen an online game with netcode that bad, made worse when you consider the developer. Also, TONS of bugs.

Aim Magnetism is one of my biggest pet peeves (it's pretty horrible in Halo 3 as well). It's unforgivably stupid, especially when THERE ARE SIXTY PEOPLE IN A GAME. It's a herculean feat trying to actually only shoot at once person since if anyone else passes by or gets close to your target your aim is magically whisked away to them. Hell, it's a nightmare in 10 man matches if you're using the Marksman.

I can't help it if console shooters continue to be retarded in this department. Here's hoping to better netcode in Gears 2 and a decent aiming mechanism in Killzone 2.

If you are trying to track a man that is at medium distance from you with the Marksman, your aim SHOULD become more difficult - it is a long range weapon. I have no problem with the way the aiming is currently implemented with that weapon. The game's biggest problem is turn speed, which makes it VERY hard to counter attacks from your flank or from behind.

So does this one. But I've already addressed this point in a much earlier post. It doesn't bother me as much in games with no real precision weapon (it doesn't really do it with the fareye). On pretty much every level but Chicago (subway), I use the Marksman almost exclusively. You notice, FAST.

Also, 60 people is too much in general (even 40 is pushing it). I'm just noticing it a lot more even with the carbine.

Ugh, the game CHANGES YOUR TARGET AGAINST YOUR WILL. Even at point blank range.

Yea I don't know what you're talking about. Changes your target, as in, forces your aim elsewhere? What the fuck are you talking about?

Have you even played the game? I'm starting to wonder. That is exactly what happens.

Quoting in agreement. I've had the same issue trying to pull off long-distance shots with the Marksman. Another enemy will rush in from the side, "stealing" the focus of my aim because of the heavy lock-on.

Honestly, it doesn't even have to be in long range. As long as you're scoped it will do it. And with any gun*. I'm not even sure you have to be scoped, either.

*Except the Fareye, but maybe I'm just not noticing (I barely use it).

I haven't noticed the aim assist at all (like zero)...it must be easily overrided by stick input?? I've played a lot of the public beta too..

Warhawk has obvious aim assist and it works for that game...I gotta go try to get this aim assist to work in R2.

I also agree. It's a bit annoying for the aiming reticule to snap on someone that runs by while you try to shoot down someone, has happened a couple of times for me. They really need to tone that down.

Lots of people in this thread live in an apparent alternate reality. Of course, a lot of them are the same ones saying RFOM is the same speed as Unreal :lol

So yea, they do.

ALSO, please fix grenade indicators. Do they even exist? Sometimes they feel like a myth.

I only find the aim assist to be too strong when I'm playing medic in co-op. It can be a pain in the ass at times.

I agree, the aim-assist feels more like involuntary auto lock-on at times. It needs to be toned down.
