Returnal Review Thread (PS5)

I've gotta say that the not being able to save sounds really dumb. I mean saving and quitting like in Souls, so you can't abuse it. I can't think of any reason why that would detract from the experience.

Some dudes can't hack playing as a female character, unless they are a wank fantasy. I'm all for wank fantasy female characters, but also perfectly okay with ones that aren't designed to make little boy pee pees get all excited.
 
Not gonna lie would love this on Xbox. Nice one sony. Will need to get the PS5 eventually as well.

Too bad its an exclusively woman protagonist. Would prefer a man instead.

I love Gamepass, it's well worthy of all the praise, but Microsoft needs to deliver some games, it's embarassing, and releasing a 7/10 game after all this time would make this a hilariously bad first year.
 
Aside from some weird takes from weird writers, the general consensus is that Returnal is a great action game that happens to have some roguelike elements in it. Sounds good to me. Very happy Housemarque got a dub. Also that Paste magazine writer privated her twitter lmao.

I'm very much looking forward to trying it out and see how it feels but from the outset it's just a weird omission. Especially when considering other roguelikes the reviewer mentions such as Hades etc have that feature. It bothers me when reviewers comment on losing progress due to bugs as those issues normally get ironed out. But in this case you can lose progress when not playing the game.

He is know to be a M shill (i don't follow the guy, only telling you what gaf think of him) and his review is more negative than others but if you actually read it, it sound more like a 7,5 than a 6, he likes many things about the game.

He touch some aspects that many reviews don't touch but he still made some idiotic remark like the trigger thing (that you can disable).

destructoid touch similar arguments (kinda weak progression between runs) and they scored the game a 7,5 (and they are definitely not pro M)

Tomorrow i'm gonna see by myself if the flaws are real or not.

You guys put a lot of emphasis on a score given to a game by another person. It is after all, an opinion of the author who wrote the review. There are so many ways now, where you can see how a game is. We should stop putting so much weight on what score a game gets.

I'm guessing that I am not the only confused person on this issue. I honestly cannot recall hearing / reading the phrase roguelike before today. Do you mean losing progress is part of the game's design, as in it gets incorporated into the overall story?

I had assumed losing progress was a difficulty setting (of a sort) and/or a throwback to old school gaming. Is it actually more than that?

yeah so basically the game is hard. you will die. or because you are missing some items whatever the reason is the game is hard.. but everytime you die at least in returnal and some extend hades you keep some upgrades making the runs easier each time

Because there's no save so people hope to use rest mode as a save feature. Other than that, I guess people just always find something to complain about and if there's nothing there they make stuff up to complain about.

Can you unlock permanent unlocks in the middle of a run? If so, do those unlocks stay unlocked if your game happens to crash in that same run? That would be my biggest beef if you did. Otherwise it should be fine.

Greg Miller is a hack, and threw his best friend under the bus to bend the knee. He also is a sell out. He shills what ever publisher hires him to promote games during E3 venues. I saw him at pax shilling Fuse and it was hard to watch. SAME WITH him on EA'S stage during E3 2019.

He has no integrity.

Colin at leas is honest about where his opinions are and is not afraid to talk about what people are thinking. Greg surrounds himself with "Yes" Sire people, and young talent that really have no clue wtf they are talking about.
