Sorry, but I just don't see anything good coming from all this consolidation. From Software is doing damn fine work as a third party. Would rather they stayed that way. I'm not even a Elder Scrolls/Souls fan
This is a concern if you're a weeb mostly. This deal will grant Sony a huge leverage to promote Crunchyroll. This is not and Anime Monopoly, but sure close to Disney/Fox type of deal.

Because its a different type of libertity, specially one that comes from Fromsoftware. Libertities with story and characters are the main concerns I have.
I never had that worry in the past, since old Sony would just leave their games to have all the freedom they wanted(hence why we had Bloodborne and it was great). But modern Sony clearly have sencitivities that I'm sure would interfere with Myiazaki ideas.
But again, how do you determine that? Stellar Blade was published by Sony which means that they had enough influence on these things, did you feel that Shift Up didn't have enough freedom in terms of story and characters? What about Rise of the Ronin or Helldivers 2?
I think people's issues with Spider-Man 2 are mainly on Insomniac than anything else.

After the recent events that have shaken the gaming industry, I can't believe there are still people who think this is a good thing... holy shit lol
What is a good thing? Kadakawa wants to sell (maybe). Would you rather have From under Tencent or under Sony?

There's zero chance Elden Ring would have blown up the way that it did without being day one on Steam, far too many people who are fans of these style of games are on PC. I can see Xbox getting skipped over going forward if this goes through but they'd be complete fools to take these games off of the platform where they sell the best, especially since ER is what's made Fromsoft a household name.

100% I can imagine them willing to lose out on the 2-3 million sales of the Xbox version but 10 to 12 million PC sales....This is within the first few weeks of launch as well.

The Asmongold videos would probably do the rounds here a lot lol.

This would be a god-tier acquisition if true.l but not entirely surprising. I’ve always wondered why Sony didn’t go for them sooner considering how close they are to Sony. I’m personally not in favor of acquisitions to be honest. I doubt Sony will pull games from other platforms to make exclusive but they may make some games timed exclusive to PC and PS5.

Doesn't the new CoD have a they/them character now?

This is so bad. I can't imagine the despair inside From Software right now. Sony has been on the "What the hell are we doing" script. Kojima is apparently distancing himself from the company. It's a common fear. Sony has bought studios, was one of the ones that made massive layoffs, closed several studios, even closed one that failed to deliver a successful game.

Sony itself has already admitted that it has management problems. Of course, all of this is the result of a huge escalation of failures with AAA games in the West. What will happen to FS in Sony's hands if they deliver a game below 80? Will they shut it down as well? Will they send woke devs from California to FS? Sony is in no position to deal with them, in fact, their studios are declining, it seems like a total mess. I think that for the good of From Software this deal can never be done.
Lol the FUD coping in this post.

Also for all the purple forum people who are trying to convince themselves that FromSoftware will somehow fall under Sony Music Entertainment...
Yeah, this is just ridiculous. Spike Chunsoft, Acquire? I can see that, but there's one company that owns 14% of From and it's not SMEJ.

So DeS and Bloodborne and potential sequels never get a pc port?

Huh? I didn't mean that though. For pc players it would be awesome to get those games. I meant that hopefully they won't take From games away from platforms they exist on right now. Right now I only have a Xbox and Switch, and I just hope they won't stop bringing From games to Xbox.

I probably should have worded it differently, I'm absolutely not against them making any ports for PC. The more players, the better.

What is my man talking about? If anything, FromSoftware should've already been a PlayStation studio from the second Demon's Souls came out to critical acclaim, 15 years ago. This is just current PS Studios leadership making right out of Shuhei Yoshida's arguably biggest mistake during his tenure as the head of first-party - only rivaled by the closure of Evolution Studios.

Also, get your head checked over all that culture war nonsense. Sony literally published Stellar Blade this year, and you're complaining about "woke this, woke that"? Stand down.

Tencent buys them - Titty souls Gaass games

Sony buys them - Woke souls with a PSN login

I look forward to Miyazaki’s next studio
When has Sony forced their studios to do anything?

Did you play Stellar Blade? Sony financed the project. It literally became a big game release because of them and there's nothing woke about it. Same for Rise of the Ronin. Astrobot as well. Gran Turismo doesn't mention pronouns or anything as well. They will leave their asian studios be whatever they want.

Sony has A-1 Pictures (produced Sword Art Online, Nier Automata) and CloverWorks (produced Spy × Family, Bocchi the Rock) under Aniplex which is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment Japan.
And that's on top of Aniplex being an anime production company itself.
They were involved in the one from my pfp. :p

Why not? They would be able to make Bloodborne and Demon's souls which are PS exclusive IPs.

Let me correct myself...... future FS games would not be exclusive. BB and DS are already Sony (SIE) IPs so maybe they stay on PS only (If there are sequels)
Making a game like Elden Ring exclusive to PS would be as dumb as making GTA exclusive imo.

I would expect current Sony to close down every game dev studio except from Software.

Yes it's a nice bonus to have from Software but let me rephrase it. It's mostly media related.
Why would they close down Acquire and Spike Chunsoft? Gotcha Gotcha games maybe, or just release them as their only real thing is RPG Maker

I hate to see more Corporate consolidation, but this one kind of makes sense for Sony due to Kadokawa’s anime and manga positions, but just video games.

On the other hand, it’s modern Sony, so they are sure to f this up somehow.

And I don’t think this will get held up by regulators, the deal isn’t big enough.

The funniest thing about this topic is that, roughly speaking, Sony is a big evil that is trying to buy the poor Fromsoft. Although if everyone is so worried about the fate of FS, ask them why, if they are so worried about their independence, their company was put up on an open exchange where anyone with money can buy a part of their company. If they were really so worried about their independence, they would not be there.

And now they are slowly being bought by Tencent, and if this rumor is true, I understand that this scenario is very unsatisfactory for Sony and they decided to play it safe and just decided to immediately take Kodakawa.
But all this is nothing more than reflections and thoughts out loud, since we don’t even know whether it’s true or not. Who knows, maybe in 1-2 years we will see FS as part of Tencent :messenger_grinning_squinting:

It's an overload of hopium that nothing will change.

But Sony's buying them to change things.

I could easily see them generating 3-4 billion from just From in the next 5 or so years.

I can also see them positioning Elden Ring 2 as a PS PC storefront exclusive.

You think Sony pays random companies like Square Enix for exclusivity for FF7 but aren't going to make Elden Ring exclusive? Be real.

Elden Ring didn't blow up just because it was on Steam, it blew the fuck up because it's an incredible game

The reputation of FromSoftware, and the universal praise would have carried it on any platform

I hope all the people who cheered for AKB merger won't get mad at this.

I was fine with it because it meant a service I pay for gets stronger. And I've always been ok with more people playing the games, so this multiplatform strategy by Xbox is fine with me.

But Sony doesn't put their games in their service day one, and there is the real possibility they will stop having From games come to Xbox and I don't see the good in that. Perhaps one good could be that From games actually launch with a stable framerate though? Lol. But we'll see. It's not something I can worry about too much tbh.

No other Fromsoft game has had near the level of commercial success that Elden Ring has had despite them all being critically acclaimed, you're kidding yourself thinking being on PC wasn't a huge contributor to that.

Sony bought Cunchyroll already like 2 years ago. They also bought funimation and aniplex before that.

They have been buying so many lately, I think many are not up to date on those purchase. Sony is on the hunt for them Anime purchases
