Reviews for Creed (Michael B. Jordan, Stallone, dir. Ryan Coogler)

Coogler wholeheartedly deserves a Best Director nom but it's glaringly obvious there'll be a snub.

I was about to say "you never know, Warners might push it, they're the kind of studio that would do that" but they're also the studio that put out Fury Road, and if they have to decide between pouring money into a campaign for Miller vs. a campaign for Coogler, they'll probably pick Miller.

Balboas is still good, my friend

Plays so heavily on nostalgia. Whole film is one long walk down memory lane. It's weird and kinda sad when a movie literally revisits scenes from the original movie. I get that those moments are tied to Adrian and she passed away but it feels like an actor/director trying so hard to capture former glory. There's a parallel meta story being told with Stallone the man and Rocky the character but sometimes it feels like it crosses that line into outright pandering

The acting from the actor playing Apollo's son sounds really really bad in the trailer. The lines are fine, the delivery is really bad.

I'll see it when it's available for rent.

I was thinking about Talia Shire's character over the years. She's basically there to look scared and yell at Rocky.

She would have probably agreed to be in this movie. I don't blame her for not being in Balboa.

It was really Stallone's decision to leave her out of 'Balboa'. He felt Adrian's absence would propel the emotional weight of the film.

Wanted to love the movie but was still great. Some of the scenes were too much even in being a Rocky Franchise filled with over the top moments, like the previously mentioned ATV/shadowboxing/Rocky cheering from his window scene. Got an awkward laugh in the theater.

Still one of the more enjoyable experiences in the theatre this year and definitely belongs on the upper tier of movies in the franchise.

Give Ryan Coolger that best director award right fucking now. Give Sly best supporting. Give MBJ the best actor. Give me Tessa Thompson's phone number pls.

This was so good. Not my favorite of the year but still fantastic.

We've seen a lot of attempts at franchise revivals recently, in this new nostalgia craze. Creed does it better than them all by modernizing it to such a point that the only true nostalgia comes naturally from a major character, the Italian Stallion himself. The theme of legacy permeates this film, whether it's Apollo's, Rocky's, or Adonis Creed's own legacy. Jordan becomes a star with his role, perfectly portraying the ego of Creed with sympathy. Thompson is a modern-day Adrian, and I mean that in the best way. Stallone... what can I say about Stallone that other people haven't? It's the best he's acted in decades and he deserves the Oscar for his supporting turn as the aged legend. He makes the audience laugh and cry multiple times in this film. Coogler directs in a fantastic way, finding sheer joy in minor moments. The use of sound, both in the remixed score using the Rocky theme in multiple ways, and the sound design, which feels like you're in the ring with Creed, is incredible. Montages are also on point, with one giving me my second biggest smile at the cinema this year. And the fights... I'm convinced they might be the best in the Rocky franchise yet. Creed is an astounding film with incredible performances and powerful direction. There's nothing to hate about it, and by the end, you'll be cheering Creed's name as loud as the crowd in the film itself.

Saw this today…damn great movie! I love all the Rocky movies (well except 5) and this is no exception. MBJ was great, Sly was great, directing was great, fights were great, etc, etc. Highly recommended.

Man, this movie was great. I love how Balboa and this one really got out of the stink of those middle Rocky films. Michael B Jordan and Sly are one hell of a duo.

Saw it today. It was an absolutely fantastic movie. The fight that was done in one take was pure magic, and the rest of the movie managed, like Adonis himself, to carve its own identity while still remaining true to its roots.

And for those shitting on Rocky Balboa, Balboa was a great movie. I think that Creed is the better film of the two, but Balboa remains my second favourite Rocky film (behind the original), and Creed being amazing doesn't make Balboa any less great of a movie. I love them both.

I can't wait to see Creed 2. Jordan certainly redeemed himself after Fan4stic.

Just saw it
Holy fuck
HOOOOLY FUCK
It's soooooo good
Can't get the theme out of my head
Interestingly hbo showed Rocky balboa yesterday, creed is much much better

I think when I finally get that rewatch of Creed done, I might have a much harder time not putting it on (or even slightly above) Rocky's level. As it is, its REAAAALLYY damn close to being there.

If I had to pick, it'd be real real close. It's freaking Sophie's Choice up in this bitch with that

Debating watching this again on saturday just before Star Wars...Creed is ny far the best movie of the year so far. Star Wars and Hateful 8 have a lot to live up to.

Movie was good entertainment but was essentially a rocky remake and trip down memory lane. Film wouldn't work without Stallone's performance. Ranking it first is laughable similar to peoplr saying TFA is better than Star Wars.
