This movie came out of fuckin' nowhere for me.
I honestly had no idea this was even a thing until I saw the trailer on a tv in a bar last weekend. Blown away! Can't wait!

Why? Is there any correlation between the creative staff on either?

I know there's no correlation between the two. After reading that AC and Mario Tennis getting bad reviews on the game side, seeing this review thread of the things I like got me thinking "Oh no, another bad review?"

Hands down the best Rocky movie since the original and a film that should legitimately be in the Academy Award conversation, just like the original Rocky. When I’ve told people how good this movie is, I’m met with shock. This is because people aren’t remembering Rocky, they are remembering the Rocky franchise. This is understandable, but that mindset has to be tweaked for Creed... Jordan is great. Stallone is great. Tessa Thompson, a musician who plays Creed’s love interest, is great. Coogler nails every beat. Everything feels earned. Adonis Creed is fighting under the shadow of his father’s legacy. Creed is fighting against the legacy of the Rocky sequels. In the end, Creed is a true champion.

And Kris Tapley of Variety further explaining why Stallone could get a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

As an upcoming column will attest, the supporting actor race is positively thick with strong contenders this year. But none of them have really felt like a winner just yet. A year after “Birdman,” Michael Keaton could get a lot of residual affection for his work in “Spotlight.” Tom Hardy may prove to be a ferocious favorite in “The Revenant.” But few performances pack the emotional punch Sylvester Stallone does in “Creed.”

With the Ryan Coogler-directed film, Stallone has now taken on the role of Rocky Balboa seven times on the big screen. He was nominated at the outset for 1976’s “Rocky” and lost to Peter Finch for the late actor’s fierce “Network” performance. But the truth is he might be even better this time around. I would be tempted to call it his best on-screen work to date as he finds such subtle, unassuming textures in the performance that both deepen a character we’ve grown to love over the last 40 years, as well as present him in a whole new shade.

Out of all the young actors to come from The Wire, it's still surreal for Wallace to be the one at the front of the pack. Good for him and I'm legit excited for a movie about Apollo Creed's son.

I worked with the producer of this film and he said when Sly told him the idea he thought it was a joke. Then he read the script and did a 180 on it. Said Sly is going to get a supporting nom and Jordan could get a best actor nom too if the production pushes it.

I'm not sure what I'm more hyped about. Creed or Triple 9.

But they are both so far apart, it dont even matter. Seeing them both

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Wow Michael B. Jordan really dodged a bullet, Fantastic 4 nearly killed his career.

I thought he was going to be Taylor Kitsch'd for sure.

Really hope Ryan Coogler gets Black Panther. Dude's a fantastic director, and it'll be the platform needed to spring his career to new heights in terms of future opportunities.

He already had a lot under his belt by then, including Fruitvale, and no one would have pinned the failure of F4 onto him.

Kitsch was the actual lead in a couple of bombs and from what I hear an awful season 2 of True Detective. I don't think those failures were all on him either; he might be cut out as a lead, but can do well as a character actor when he gets older. They were both great in Friday Night Lights.

Everyone involved in FF has so many other things going on and most people will have forgotten about the movie in a year. Nobody was in danger there.

On topic - my GF saw a screening of this and cried 3 times having never seen a Rocky movie before. It's going to be a huge hit.

Awesome as expected. From everything I've seen, I'm gonna assume this is easy for anyone who doesn't know Rocky to get into. Might be able to convince people to see and heck, maybe get into the series.

This movie looks so good

Michael b jordan one of the cooler actors coming up right now. I hope this is a major success for him and Coogler

I predict best boxing film since ali

I'll let you know what I think of this one. Unlike Mad Max, this shit won't blindside me though. I'm ready for you, motherfucker

Saw a screening today with the director of the movie there. It was in Oakland and he's actually from there. Definitely a solid flick. Light years more entertaining than Southpaw.

Stallone was really really good.

Cooger actually worked for the same non-profit I work at as a group counselor before he started film school. Dude is only like 28, crazy.

Wasn't he rumored for a DC movie since he's buddies with people at WB?

Making daddy proud.
