Amir0x said:Killjoy, this is probably the clearest and most indisputable point of all time. If you're sitting here saying "sports games might finally be fun", you're an idiot. If you're sitting here saying "Madden might get fun", totally different story.
Mihail said:If I understand you correctly, if something is wide enough, it has to be fun, right? Burials is a pretty wide category. You have mob hits, you have funerals, you have animals putting their feces in the ground -- a LOT of stuff. So since it's such a wide category, it must have always been fun?
I know it's a ridiculous example, but I'm just trying to understand how you decide whether something has always been fun or not.
Sgt. Killjoy said:The "can" word gives it the option of having funess or not, depending on the person.
Amir0x said:What the-- I'm sorry, that example is too silly to apply here.
Sports, in general, is an activity people who participate in do so to have fun (in friendly or competitive ways). Like games. If you're forced to do it, it's likely you're not going to have fun. So sports, the category, has always contained things which are fun.
But that's what this discussion is about! Sports, as a category, have always been fun. To get slightly more specific... sports games, as a category, have always been fun. It just depends on who it appeals to. Like you said. We're arguing about the differences between using "can" and "appeals to", really. But let me expand it. Say monkeyrun went and for the first time he enjoyed Madden with the Rev controller. Well, finally it appealed to him. So sports is proving, once again, it has always been fun. You just need to find what niche appeals to you as an individual. That's why if you're specifically talking about things on a game by game basis, the story changes.
Sgt. Killjoy said:Therefore, Madden "can" be fun, it may just need a certain person, or a certain addition to the game "can" make it fun. I wouldn't say its guaranteed to be fun though.
Sgt. Killjoy said:So, how about those genres comin together eh?
Sgt. Killjoy said:EDIT: Oh billiards! What about Ulitmate Frisbee Rev? I would be the only one to buy it.
monkeyrun said:I think with the new controller, sports games might actually be fun finally.
Hopefuly a Revo version will mean more than eight directions tu runfortified_concept said:You have never played Winning Eleven, have you?
lol. I believe things has become a little bit too phylosopical :lolAmir0x said:A distinction exists only in the context of this discussion. monkeyrun said sports games might finally get fun. But they've always been fun, they've always appealed to certain people. Just not monkeyrun.
