Awful news. I Won't Back Down and Don't Come Around Here No More are classics. His Superbowl performance was incredible too. Rest in peace.

Some of my earliest memories of Tom Petty are of driving through the Las Venturas desert in San Andreas, listening to "Runnin' Down a Dream" on K-DST. I still think of that whenever I hear his voice. It's going to be hard to listen to him for a few days for me at least.

NO WAY

oh man I'm a huge petty fan this is really too bad.

Yep, I was a big Petty fan before the game but that's also iconic and seared into my memory too. Usually I'd be flying a plane or, likewise, flying through in some 90s muscle car through the desert areas.

RIP. A real shocking death since it seemingly came out of nowhere. It's really weird since I rewatched The Silence of the Lambs this past Saturday, and American Girl plays a big part in the scene that really kicks off the bulk of the plot.

He was truly one of the all-time great renaissance men of rock, and he'll always be one of the very first things that comes to mind when the phrase "classic rock" is uttered.

Now, I just made myself kinda super sad with the realization that both Lucky and Luanne on King of the Hill are both gone now.

TBH I first heard of him when I was watching the 2008 Superbowl in which Giants defeated Patriots in that heartstopping catch by David Tyree and he did the halftime show and I really liked his songs.

He brings me nice memories because of that, as a NY Giants fan (a team nobody seems to know in my country) it was an unforgettable evening. RIP.

Damn. Tom Petty was so, so influential to so many musicians, myself included. Always seemed like a nice guy, also.

RIP

Gutted. He has an incredible library of great songs, of which Won't Back Down and Mary Jane's Last Dance are two of my favourites.

RIP

Simply a master at his craft. Even if you never bought an album of his or searched his music on Spotify, there's a good chance there's at least a half dozen or so songs of his you've heard and could belt out the chorus to right now. One of the best.

So weird. I totally randomly decided to listen to Tom Petty this morning on the way to work. Can't remember the last time I listened to him, but I just had an urge today.

RIP to an all-time great.

One of the guys who soundtracked my childhood. Still love his music to this day. What a legend.

Rest in peace.

I've been a fan of Tom Petty since I was a kid. His music got me through a lot. I finally got to see him live a few years ago when someone got me tickets as a gift.

He will be missed.

Ridiculously great songwriter, who's music was practically a soundtrack to my life.

66 is way too young.

I mean, fuck, he just played Hollywood Bowl last week!
