Robber with AK-47 shot by Waffle House customer

I'm sorry, but that's bullshit.

People need to be allowed to protect themselves in their own homes, and not be expected to hide in their closet and hope they don't get killed.

Yup. I can't imagine trying to say "please take what you want but leave my family alone" to a person that feels they can willfully break into someone's house to take what they want as if that person is open to reason and logic. Break into my house? I'll shoot you with my .45. Don't want to be shot? Don't break into my house.

I think I am mostly amazed that this isn't even a new thing for Waffle Houses. When I first read the OP, I thought this was a re-post of an older story that involved a Waffle House robbery and customer shootout in the parking lot, but nope, it is an entirely new one.

October 2015 incident

I'm all for banning guns, but I mostly support the guy that shot the robber. Getting someone's attention with an AK-47 seems really stupid, but he just robbed a bunch of people and a business at gunpoint. I don't know exactly how self-defense cases work, but to me he just defended everyone the guy just robbed and potentially other robberies. If the robbers injuries weren't life-threatening I would be 100% behind him.

I am for increased gun control, and I'm also for responsible gun ownership. Banning all guns from America just isn't going to happen. I don't take issue with the Waffle House customer's actions, especially because he waited until the robber left the restaurant.

I'm honestly a little disappointed to see so many Gaffers advocating a complete gun ban. You're just playing into the conservative paranoia that increased gun control measures will eventually result in an all-out gun ban. If we're ever going to make progress in this country on this issue, we need to find a middle ground.

Cause you did, I linked it earlier in this thread. No one has said it is the same person...but sounds like the exact same description and same exact crime.

The only things those two have in common is being black, maybe dreadlocks, having an ak, and robbing a waffle house. I think you're stretching it a bit.

I'd imagine he called the robber so he could turn around and then shoot him. If he had shot him in the back he probably would've been arrested.

Future would be robbers reading news like this might decide to play extra fast and loose with the trigger to "avoid" this.

Street guns get passed around often, I would guess like 3-4 weeks until it gets sold to someone else (one factor being body counts). The bigger guns are used more to scare the shit out of people you want to rob, imagine someone robbing your ass with a banana clip big rifle. Above all else gangs/dealers want your money more than your life who wants to catch a murder charge?

Drug dealers have them to scare people who want to rip them off, shit gets real when someone challenges them and shots get popped off.

The scariest thing from all the gun nut shit is that the gun show loophole is not closed. That's one way guns get on the streets but I have talked to gun nuts who say there is no problem with that and it should be left alone.

This is a joke right, sorry but I have to ask...cannot tell anymore.

I wasnt making a joke, those don't sound close enough to make me think it's the same person.

If i described two white people:

The first 5'9 to 5'11 with a pale complexion, thin, and short hair. He robbed an ihop with an ak47 in Sacramento, CA.

The second is 6'1 to 6'2, lots of tatoos, and 180 to 190. Short hair. He robbed an ihop with an ak47 in Bismarck, ND.

Would you think they are the same person? Those locations are just as far apart as the ones in your stories. As has been shown in gun threads on gaf aks arent a rare gun. Also, in your stories the guy fails at his first waffle house, so he waits 3 months only to try it again at the same store across the country? Do you think he just hates waffle house?

Yes, I would think they very well could be the same person. AK-47 is not a common weapon; that along with same general description and same restaurant do draw a great deal of attention.

A few months apart:

Waffle House
AK-47
Both times suspected perp is a mid 20's black male around 6ft, lean build (i.e 200lbs) with dreads.
Neither time did the suspected perp shoot anyone.

Shit, excuse me if that very well could be the same person. Who the fuck robs a waffle house with an AK-47 2x in five months and it isn't the same person. It is the AK-47 and same not excessively common restaurant that stands our more than anything else.

Am I drunk here?

Link it actually happening not some hypothetical.

Did you even read the links?

For you.
As you know, gun laws only affect law abiding citizens. The people that want to do bad shit with guns, will get them by any means necessary.

I mean, if you want to ignore a) all the fucking ones that didn't want to do bad shit with guns until the day they snapped and did and b) making guns ilegal or much harder to aqquire would make gun aqquisition much harder and they would MUCH MORE expensive to get through the black market. This fucker wouldn't be robbing a fucking Waffle House if that was the case.

Please, please, stop saying "hurrr durrrrr gun laws dont affect criminals, duuuuuh". It's one of the most stupid and baseless arguments you can ever make.

I agree. KILL EVERYONE COMMITING A CRIME!

I never noticed he used a Tec-9 in that scene. My go to hand gun in CS:GO.

There is no "middle ground" when one side is full of crazy people refusing to accept reality.

Not everything needs a middle ground solution. How about we have a middle ground solution for same-sex marriage and just go back to civil unions? How about we have a middle ground solution and only teach the New Testament in public schools?

The current GOP has gone so far off the rails, that even the middle ground is still way to the right.

Anyone robbing a place or people deserves to be put down like the dog they are. Especially when (in most cases) a gun is involved.
You're probably also someone that's terrified of Sharia Law being implemented here.

Aaaand if the guy with the AK had turned and shot because of the would be hero's actions potentially hitting someone in the waffle house, or the guy with the gun had started shooting and hit someone else in the lot. Or if any of the shots even came close. Sue sue sue.

Gun laws affect criminals. Gun laws affected criminals since forever. Gun laws can make guns much harder to aqquire and much more expensive. Stop this weird ass narrative they they will all automagically be able to get a expensive gun just because.

Australia had several mass shootings. They then cracked down HARD on guns. They haven't had a single mass shooting since.
Care to explain why did this happen if you think laws have no effects on criminals? I thought they would just magically produce a gun and keep on mass shooting.

That, and the whole concept of the statement "Laws don't stop criminals". Well shit, then I guess you might as well make murder legal then? I mean, it's not like it's stopping any criminals, criminals aren't affected by laws after all...
Like, for one to say this, they have no concept whatsoever of why laws exist.

I'm not really sure how to address your third paragraph, but to your second, I suppose an explanation might be that Australia is a bit more isolated than the United States? We border Mexico, a hotbed of gang violence and drug trade. Would it be inaccurate to say that the the extensive black market in North America might make it easier for criminals to get around a gun ban than in Australia, an isolated nation?

As an aside, a quick google search debunks your statement that Australia hasn't had "a single mass shooting" since its crackdown on guns

Mexico actually gets most of their guns from the U.S.

Mexico mostly get their guns from the US, not the other way around.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Waffle House is a strange place to rob. I doubt the business and the customers have that much on hand. Also all the walls are made of glass, which makes it easy to see it is being robbed. Not only that, but Waffle House hosts the dirtiest of the dirty. You take an inherent risk robbing those people.

That's because they don't. The reasons you listed above would maybe show some kind of dent in the number of guns 100 years from now, but the direction this country is going, where no one wants to budge on their stances, we have religious extremists, heroin addicts robbing more and more houses, and homophobic murderers on the loose shooting people just because they like other dudes, people will want their guns.

The day I hand in my gun is the day all the illegal guns are off the street. When I feel like I won't need it anymore and I can get by with just a melee weapon. Hell, wait a minute, no....now that I think of it, someone comes charging at me with a baseball bat, they would have to be hit center mass too(unless they on some Genji shit), you can't expect me to take a melee weapon to face. This isn't game of thrones

I can't imagine what kind of paranoia one lives in to have a world view like this.

America is the wild west after all, so I don't doubt people will see no fault in the shooter's actions. He'll probably be considered a hero, actually. Whereas normal people would wonder why you'd call out to an armed robber and risk the lives of everyone inside.

The fetishistic gun culture in the US is just pathetic.

Badass? The guy is an idiot who put his and other people's lives at risk for the sake of looking like a hero. Americans love these kinds of stories.

Doing armed robbery? Expect to be shot at. When it comes to saving other peoples lives, I'll applaud the concealed carry person for taking down another person threatening them and others over the robber.

Now if he shot anyone else in the process? Sure, I'd not be so applauding, but still understand why they did it. But in any case: He did nothing wrong. He legally carries and defended him (and others)self. No crime by him was committed.

Some guy tried to rob our local Waffle House a year or two ago. The waitress simply hit him in the head with a pan or something and he fled. I still get served by her when I go there, she's awesome.

What is Australia's population? 20 million or so? The U.S. has over 300 million people and more guns than that. We also bump shoulders with Mexico and Canada. Guns will seep through the cracks. Meaning, if the U.S. did ban firearms they would still be acquired by criminals or anyone that wanted one bad enough to commit crime. We aren't Australia. This argument never made sense.

What if the guy missed the robbers and hit an innocent bystander? There's a reason why cops aren't supposed to shoot at a fleeing suspect.

You think robbers reading this story is gonna deter them from committing robbery? I think if anything, they are gonna just shoot victims up to prevent a counter assault.

He didn't hit an innocent. He stopped the criminal that was using an ak47.

If your going to play the what if angle, what if the guy was going to shoot up a hospital after.
