Seems like a similar patch as CoD Warzone got.

"Get the free Ratchet & Clank bundle in Rocket League beginning August 18 just by logging into Rocket League on the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5."

edit - Rocket League's website has made it more clear this is still just the PS4 Pro version but with 120 Hz added. Same 4K checkerboard as it has been.

This game deserves a native next gen version. Current version has load times, which is ridiculous, considering my super old PC with a regular SSD loads instantly.

I was really hoping it was a native PS5 game, but it looks like it's just backwards compatible still which is disappointing. The load times are horrendous on PS5.

I think it loads rather quickly on the Series X.

Yeah a full native next gen version would be nice, maybe someday.

Fortnite got one, so maybe next up Epic will update their second biggest game.

Yeah like 1 or 2 seconds right? That's how it was on my PC as well. When I got the PS5, I assumed (wrongfully) that PS4 games could load that quick too, but I guess I just didn't understand how backwards compatibility worked at the time.

I have been playing this game so long I need to get better, but Aerials are hard.

Yes they did. Its now going to be native 2160p at 60 Hz.
Where did you hear that? The industry throws around the "4K/60" thing a lot, but most times it's just fake 4K. Also, from what I know, you can't change the resolution on a backwards compatible game unless something has changed since then.

Idk seems like they can now. You're right it could still be checkerboard but we'll see.

They used to be unable to add 120 Hz to PS4 games via BC as well. But that has since changed. I'm sure they could bump res up.

I would be pleasantly surprised if the image quality changed tomorrow. I'll have to take a screenshot before and after 😉

The 120 Hz mode is specifically said as 2688x1512 resolution. That's about 4 million pixels.

Checkerboard 4K is also about 4 million pixels. (3840x2160 / 2)

Would be odd if the 60 and 120 modes were rendering roughly the same pixels per frame.

They also say the UI is "4K" when using the 120 mode, and I'd be surprised if that was not native 2160p.

How is 2688x1512 (4 million pixels) 70% of 4K, which is over 8 million pixels? Am I missing something?
Its not really. 1512 is 70% of 2160. And 2688 is 70% of 3840.

I see it as a good thing that they were able to implement 120hz in yet another game that we were originally told wouldn't be possible without a native version. It shows that they are doing work in increasing the backwards compatibility of the machine.

Better late than never, but this thing should easily run ABOVE that custom 1440p(+) native resolution at 120Hz, on these 2 new new consoles.

How does it perform on the Series S?

1080p60 or 756p120 which yeah is really odd because I could run this game on my old old PC perfectly fine at high framerates. It's like they just took the config for Series X and 50% scaled down on the axes for Series S in both perf and resolution mode

Great for PS5 owners.

Why the fuck does this game only run at 70% of 4k though? It's literally 2-6 cars in a small self contained arena with no special lighting and barely any effects. Am I missing something?

I'd hoped they would increase performance over time (similar to how Fortnite always receives performance boosts), evidently not though.

better bang on download , i have my lappy on ultrawide now mostly , but bang ps on ultrawide for speed gameplay and smoothness ,
use the 4k 16.9 front room tv for prettyness
, but a monitor , makes a p5 feel next gen , speed is a massive thing , now its down to if you have a monitor or tv , with fast enough hertz and response time. cool.

i imagine this game will benefit massively.

Lazy fucking cunts, especially after the epic buyout, riding on the console manufacturer's BC capabilities.

Here's the Series S GPU (slightly slower actually) paired with a CPU that is 2 generations behind the new consoles and the Series S. Averages around 150-200 FPS at 1080p max settings.

Man, they must be lazy shits at Psyonix. Thanks for sharing.

I am stuck in the GOLD ranks. been there forever.

Lol me too, been playing since it launched on Ps4 and I'm stuck at gold 3.
Occasionally make it to platinum but then always get back down on a loosing streak.

This is one of the few games I still have a blast with even when I'm loosing though.
