Rocket League update for PS5 incoming. 120 Hz, Ratchet & Clank items.

Yes, they are lazy and basking in the success they achieved because game looks practically the same as 6 years ago. They should be releasing Rocket League 2 with vastly superior graphics, modes, options and everything else.

Despite gameplay still being supreme, I feel a bit ashamed still playing the game in this form when industry as a whole has progressed so much during the last 6 years.

I'm usually a graphics whore, but I don't mind the graphics in Rocket League. I think it's because it's what I'm used to so it's what I expect. It was never about the graphics for me since the gameplay is what really shines.

I've been continuously playing the game since release day and the need for a sequel literally never occurred to me until reading this page of this thread.

Dust-by-Monday Dust-by-Monday you were right. Same 4K CB as it has been.

From Rocket League's site.

This game deserves a native next gen version. Current version has load times, which is ridiculous, considering my super old PC with a regular SSD loads instantly.
Problem is most of the people are on old ass consoles 😂 so you end up waiting on em

Its crossplay with last gen consoles, so you would be waiting for them to load anyway

My most played game of all time

Dont have a 120hz display, so the update does nothing for me

Psyonix are very lazy devs to me. They have been milking the same cow for one whole generation and it doesnt seem like they will stop.

What surprises me even more is the people not getting tired of it, but whatever : /

I half-wrote this yesterday and then news came out that backed it up, but I bet this is a stop-gap release instead of a full native port because they're concentrating on updating the whole thing to UE5.

There's not a lot of efficiency AFAIK to improve over what's in the UE4 original (I don't know that there's a lot of LOD management in Rocket League? you can turn every car and ball and arena onto Nanite but would you save much performance in the change?), but Psionix is owned by Epic and will be on UE for the rest of its lifespan so might as well tag along with Fortnite and get on the new tech line.

(As far as loadtimes, they don't say there's improvements but the SX didn't list loading improvements when it got updated last Dec and yet it loads fast, does anybody know if it had loads before the SX patch?)

Things went to shit with the Epix buyout

The game used to be loaded with free content and weekly updates, constantly adding new modes and new things to the game and cosmetics were free or even extremely cheap once they monetised it.

Epic takeover has shown no tangible sign of improving the game. I thought maybe they could get it ported to UE 5 early but they haven't shown any inclination to do that any time soon

I can't seem to enable 120hz or any of the modes. Ratchet work fine and the LGCX shows it running at 120hz bit nothing shows up for me in RL.

Your most played game of all time... and you've stuck with 60hz the whole way?
sad dr who GIF
If you can only enjoy games at +60hz, I honestly feel bad for you

HL 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I finished it in 2004 with sub 20 fps in such a terrible PC, that sometimes it got stuck for more than 5 minutes in a loading screen (and remember how many this game has?)

Played lots of emulated games at sub 15 fps and enjoyed the heck out of them.

I agree that "now we have standards", but 30hz is still pretty great in motion.

60hz is bliss, anything more is just cherry on top

You don't have to feel bad for me, my 1440p270hz screen is on its way to finally upgrade from 165hz.

I played the Half Life games at definitely more than 20fps, but who knows those were the CRT days. Whole different world.

It's just I don't know, for most people who have Rocket League at "most played game ever" status it usually gets to the point where they switch to PC version, install bakkesmod, and get 144hz+.

Didn't they say they couldn't simply update the game to achieve this previously, and that a full-blown PS5 port would be needed? Wonder what changed.

Its all about priorities

Dont have much time to play games nowadays, PCs are expensive as hell where I live (and everywhere else, I think), I'm saving money for another stuff, etc.

And I can kick some ass on Rocket League at 60hz just fine

Why the hell is the 60fps mode not native 4K? Is it even higher resolution than the 120fps mode?

Useless, can't wait for the proper next-gen upgrade on UE5 in three years or whatever...

I think there is plenty to complain about with regards to Rocket League, particularly on their absurd monetization practices but I don't really think Rocket League needs a sequel. The game play is already perfect.

Good lol This 24gb patch didn't do shit

a lot of people are complaining that the update actually made the graphics a lot worse. They said the game is looking like its running in 760p.

Really glad Twitter is lighting these guys up right now. This shit is unacceptable.

Performance mode is lower resolution though. They've clearly stated that in the patch notes. It's 70% of 4K.

Also, if you want the graphics back, change it back to Quality mode.

Performance mode is supposed to hit around 1500p at 120 fps (there's even an image somewhere in this thread breaking down all the new modes), however, people are reporting the game is now around 720p-760p at 60 fps in Performance mode. This isn't 70% of 4k, and this isn't 120 fps.

It certainly isn't 720p hah. I played it last night and while it's slightly jaggier than 4K, it's not even 1080p, let alone 720p
