ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X launch October 16

Some would subscribe to Gamepass, others would use it as a extension of the Xbox ecosystem, Play Anywhere and xCloud.
All that can be done on any Windows device.

Is there a solid source for that info that it's all ASUS baby? I mean why is MS talking about how to set the price here if they aren't getting a cut???

MS doesn't necessarily have to take a cut, the negotiations could be regarding how much MS would provide a cut.

For example, in exchange for Xbox branding and official support, and marketing, MS could list maximum price they want the devices to be sold at, while Asus would have a minimum profit they would like to make. The tariffs are the whole wrench in this situation.

So the base model is rumored to be $549 right. MS wants a cheaper entry level device which can also be used as the best streaming handheld. If it wasn't for MS, then Asus likely would've gone with the Z2 chip like the Lenovo, but raised prices to $699 for example. But using Z2A chip, they were able to bring costs down, and tariffs are still screwing up that plan.

If Asus had wanted to sell base unit at $599 and X model at $999, and MS wants them sold cheaper, then MS would be covering any shortfall in Asus pricing.

So I agree with Jez, MS isn't likely taking a cut. Another way MS could subsidize it is by taking away the windows licensing fee. On a $1000 device, that would be roughly $50-60.

This news completly eluded me, for a moment I thought you guys werre talking about the new "aggregated gaming library" that had a rollout recently. But it must be this we're talking about.

Let us know if you get it working on the Legion Go.

No go on Legion Go. The registry key isn't there so I'm thinking something else specifically installed on Rog Ally is not on Legion Go at this point. Going to see if anyone else had any luck this weekend.

it says right there that it'll be effected by the full tarrifs.

edit: if this is being considered a console, that is.
Hang on, no one on this earth thinks this is anything BUT a PC.

Gaf told us this 1000 times. It's not a real Xbox.

It's a Windows 11 PC.

Maybe won't be affected by tariffs?

Stay in school kids, and don't pirate like this dude.

This is the model MS wants to use for Handhelds going forward. They are only making first party Consoles using Magnus to set a baseline for next gen. Then have OEMs build the other form factors.

I don't think MS will mandate handheld support.

what will probably be the case (if this open 3rd party SKU plan is what they're going for) is a compatibility chart for each chip variant them and AMD are working on and planning to sell to manufacturers.
and that compatibility has to be part of the product name.
like how an Asus ROG GPU is still an Asus ROG RTX4070, and that will determine the compatibility, and has a minimum spec it has to meet.

so, say, MSI makes an Xbox handheld. and that handheld chip is powerful enough to be fully Series S compatible. so Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S games run exactly at Series S quality (maybe with some additional performance due to higher clocks, faster memory etc.)
such a device would then need to be named something along the lines of "MSI Claw - Xbox Series S". so you know buying it, it will play games that say Xbox Series S compatible.

and then the high end console SKUs would maybe be an Asus ROG Xbox Series 2. and that system will play anything up to Xbox Series 2 games (if that's the name they're going with for next gen).

sometime down the line, eventually, there'll maybe be a ROG Ally Xbox Series X, a handheld with full Series X support, and so on.

I highly doubt anything like that is coming next year, hell even Sony's, supposedly much farther along, handheld is rumored for '27, '28.
Man, what Sony needs is a $300 PS5 specced box. The handheld isn't going to expand their customer base.

I can't freaking believe they can't figure out how to get a digital model to their price point in say 2026-2027. We live in a ridiculous time.
