ROG Xbox Ally X price leaked.

Remember when people were saying Microsoft and Asus were gonna subsidize these to compete with Nintendo?

I remember. Crack times.

Big surprise.

If the Xbox Ally X actually hits the market at $799 it's not a bad deal at all. Not only do you get the Z2 AI Extreme and much improved ergonomics...you also get an extra Xbox button. 😁 If we're lucky, by the time this releases, SteamOS will be fully optimised for the Asus Ally line. 🤞

Edit: If it turns out they won't cut the US price as much as I think, then even $899 isn't too bad either. More then that and it gets a bit iffy IMO.

Man, you have no idea how spotty and janky egpu support is do you?

This is especially funny because you think USB4 for that purpose will be some kind of big deal.

I can't imagine ever using that shit, tbh. People who buy eGPUs baffle me, but to each their own.

I spotlighted differences, no weighting on what would be a 'big deal' or not. I don't care about impulse triggers, for example.

You are conflating differences between the ROG Ally and the ROG Ally X, and differences between those and the Xbox versions.

Probably intentionally, to confused people asking questions

Classy as fuck

The question was clearly the difference between the Xbox version and the ROG Ally, which i take to be the original version (which is still the most widely available version, and by far the cheapest).

How do you not get something this simple? Here's the query I'm responding to

What do you get extra from the normal version of the ROG ally?

Why the fuck do you think he'd be asking what you get extra if he was referring to the equivalently priced Ally X?

Ok cool, so you're just attempting to advertise.

Got it.

This perpetual victim mentality is too funny.

Going to be a long road for you if you think PC gamers are going to put up with Xbox's crap and you guys running around like used car salesmen defending it.

I know he was referring to the website.

So no, I will not "calm my ass". Been reading too much clownery surrounding this desperate infiltration of the PC gaming space.

Lmfao, the same PC Gamer that gave the ROG Ally X a 91% rating is now 'not going to put up with MS crap' for a follow up with significant improvements at the same price as the original?

'Desperate infiltration of the PC gamer space' indeed. It's a Windows gaming handheld. They've been a thing for years

Even for you, this is truly bizarre

Since he is coming in saying that he doesn't know differences, you can't assume he knows any. By "normal version" he may just mean "non Xbox version", and be unaware that there even are two different versions of the ROG Ally.

Rog Ally X also has USB4 so another faulty addition to the list. One could argue, however, that the original Ally has the best eGPU support as far as performance goes even though it is a proprietary option.

Yeah, for eGPU Thunderbolt tends to be better, and regardless if it's USB or Thunderbolt it needs to support full data; not every device with those ports supports is full data (i.e video, data, & power).

The SD 2 id gonna equally expensive tho. I think the price is what you woulf expect from this kind hardware

Steam Deck 2 won't have the Windows licensing tax, and like Dacvak Dacvak said earlier, Valve have Steam which can act as a subsidy.

So, I don't think Steam Deck 2 is going to cost anywhere near these prices, at least for a lower-priced SKU. They'll probably want to offer an SKU that's at least $349/$399, same as with original SD.

Also worth mentioning, Valve aren't a publicly traded company. Meaning they don't have shareholders expecting fat profit margins, meaning they don't have the pressure to price at margins for profit or growth the way a public company like Asus or Microsoft does.

I expect a firestorm of 'DROP THE PRICE' immediately.

Well you'd kinda need enough people interested in the first place.

Did you see the IGN fake Fanfest crowd reaction to this thing's reveal? Quite dire, and that was without a price tag.

Same battery and same ram as previous Ally X

Well yes. That goes without saying. The question was about 'the normal Ally'. That's distinct from the Ally X.

Why would anyone ask about 'extra' features for a similar priced device?

Ok cool, so you're just attempting to advertise.

Got it.

Listing physical features is now advertisement? 🤣
you're trying too hard at this point.

Fair point. I'll edit my post for clarity. My comparison was pegged against the Z1E Ally. The Z1 version was a shitty deal from the start.

Oh so now "it's a Windows gaming handheld"?

And regarding PC game's review of the regular ally, it's a shame you didn't think about that before jumping to the default state of "victim mentality".

It's amazing how he lacks basic reading comprehension and then acts like everyone else is an idiot.

Can someone please explain all the laughing at this price point please?

It's the same price as existing Rog handheld but with a brand new chip right? Seems ok to me.
It's tied to MS, so I never expected a considered conversation.

I saved up the money for a handheld and I have been biding my time for the right device. The customizations to Windows is a welcome addition to these devices, but the lack of touchpads means this isn't the one for me. I want to be able to access my classic RTS games. Joysticks and classic RTS games just don't mix.

Not trying as hard as you, fortunately.

Why would you decide to list and talk up features that my your own admission - "I can't imagine ever using that shit, tbh. People who buy eGPUs baffle me"

And not only that, you were actually incorrect in your assurtion that will have "better" egpu support.

'Now'?
I've always called it a PC handheld.

Desperate, much?

This is the best you could come up with? 🤣

To repeat for emphasis, after giving the original a glowing, 91% review, handwringing about an improved sequel priced in line with the original and designed to fix the biggest pain point with the original is baffling.

Hard to say it "goes without saying" when we are dealing with this number of versions, but he didn't specify Ally X and there is a new non-X Rog Xbox Ally. Shit is confusing as hell without being explicitly clear what we are talking about, I guess.

I paid €569 for the Steam Deck OLED, and it's probably the best gaming device I've ever used. But that runs SteamOS and is a fully capable Linux-powered computer.

Hard for folks to fathom that these are PCs in every way, it seems. No one balks at $1500 gaming laptops but $599 handhelds and we freak out.

…Because those features exist as differences between this upcoming device and the original Ally. And my post was in direct response to a question asking for those changes
Is this a comprehension thing?

The original Ally has limited - and suboptimal - support for USB eGPUs and works best with Asus proprietary solution.

As someone once said, standardized solutions > proprietary solutions

You calling other people "desperate" after your conduct throughout this thread is rich.

They can critique the product however they want to. The market dynamics have also changed since the launch of the original.

No need to take it personally.

DOA for mass sales. The question becomes how many of those Xbox loyalists are going to jump on a handheld because it has Xbox branding? Xbox better come out swinging with news of their true next Xbox console or people are going to abandon them even faster (possible?). We are an enthusiast board so we know what is going on (even those pretending not to ) but the mass market consumer is probably going to be confused and be frustrated by the price of this new "Xbox" hardware.

It's a tweaked ROG Ally X in a remodelied shell and sold at the same price.
GAF:
shocked oh no GIF

Handheld? ew no.
Don't worry I'll take yours 👍

I'm spot on their target audience, I've left consoles (except for Switch 2) and moved almost completely to PC, but Steam Deck is too limiting for multi launcher usage and regular Windows is too clunky. Could buy a regular Ally X, will also get the updated Windows UI, but I'm excited to try out their remodeled version. Worst case scenario my kids have another PC handheld besides the LCD Deck.

Their review is a year old at this point. There's been nothing transformative out in the PC handheld space in this time, and indeed prices have continued to creep upwards for many things PC gaming.

Only major change since then is the launch of the Switch 2, and even that saw a price bump over the Switch 1…and doesn't really appeal to the same target demographic anyway.

Technically I'm the target audience, since it ticks all the compatibility boxes.
Depends on how well they land the UX improvements to Windows. I couldn't stomach the experience on the original Ally after a while.
Will wait for extensive previews first.

If more gamers knew how awesome the oled steam deck is combined with steam key sites, combined with Steam Family sharing, it would sell a lot more.

I have multiple consoles, both modern and retro, and a pretty decent PC with a 4090. I could easily get rid of all of them and just live with the Steam Deck. It's that good. Valve should do better at marketing that thing.

Same. I have the consoles, mini/retro, kept all my old consoles, and a 4090 PC. And most of my game time is on Steam Deck.

The Ally has lots of vocal fans so I'm thinking it can't be all bad. All things points to this being better. Might still be clunky but I've sat on the fence on the Ally for a long time, now it's time to see what it's all about.
