You don't need to be empathetic towards me.
The movie looks amazing, but I don't trust Gareth after how absolutely terrible Godzilla was and how awesome it looked..

Easily the best banner I've seen all year.

Curious that Yen steals the film, less so with K2SO who has been great in the marketing, Chirrut has been kind of stale one note "Insert blind man who is inexplicably good at martial arts" in the marketing. Yens a great actor and hearing he has other sides to him in the film other than token action hero is great news.

There are certain things that happen in #RogueOne that I wish theaters would install an audience cam come next week.

His happy little "The Force did protect me!" in that one commercial put me immediately in his corner.

I loved the film, I was responding to someone before hwo said TFA had a lot of negative reactions straight away, which I did not see at the time.

Oh ok. You are right. impressions were very good.

Im going into this with very little hype, despite being a big fan.

Initially I was against the idea of this film, but now I must admit I'm excited to see it. i do wonder if it's received extremely well could it have a negative effect on the saga films. With those films only being one in.

I watch collider every day and Jedi councils on the thursday, of all impressions I dont take theirs to heart, they are relentlessly positive about all things.

Campea thinks BvS and Man of Steel are incredible films

Nothing wrong with their opinions, but they always, always, err on the incredibly optimistic side of the table.
nah he said he enjoys bvs not that its incredible. Plus the majority of the crew disliked it. Christian saying everything is gahhbge sure sounds like they always, always err on the optimistic side to me too /s. Are you sure you actually listen when your listening everyday ?
Schneep isn't overly positive at all on a lot of things either.
Dennis dislikes a lot of stuff.
Are you getting campea and Ellis confused for the whole cast?

Damn, the more I read about it, the more I'm ready to be blown away, I'm still cautious about it and the removal of trailers scenes annoyed me but I'm still in, Wednesday can't come soon enough !!

Wil Wheaton has a non-spoilery blog post up talking about his experience seeing the movie.

Two choice quotes:
I give Rogue One 5 out of 5 lightsabers, and a 99%. It would get 100% if not for a single (very small) thing that I understand was put into the film on a reshoot.
What could he possibly be referring to?

The visual effects team will win every award possible, and they will deserve it. There are things done in this movie with visual effects that fundamentally change the rules of filmmaking.
This isn't the first place that I've seen this particular sentiment, and I have to guess it refers to the
face tech used for Tarkin and possibly Leia
.

Wonder how the Academy might react to something so supposedly-revolutionary and
something so potentially damaging to the craft, as other critics have postulated.

Whoa, was not expecting such an overwhelmingly positive response. My hype levels for this were very low, despite really enjoying TFA; this movie just seemed unnecessary. I wasn't overly impressed with the trailers and it certainly didn't help that Godzilla, the director's previous film, was such a boring turd. So when all the stories about reshoots started cropping up, I was honestly ready for the worst.

It seems I was wrong, and couldn't be happier about it.

I just made the connection for what all of the actor "doom and gloom" may be thanks to this post, I'm curious to see what they do now.

I also just got really hyped for the film today, I was going to see it regardless but it's looking very good.

Huh, the face tech is the thing actors will not be pleased about? I wonder what the hell that means? Is it something else than CGI'ing a younger face like in Tron Legacy, Ant-Man and Civil War?

It doesn't mean much, it's way less cost effective than hiring an actual actor.

I don't believe any of this hype. It will be at least three months before anyone is is ready to have a reasonable critical discussion about this movie.

it's the beginning of a situation where actors' contracts include rights to 'likeness' or image and allows them to be used by the studios far beyond old age or death.

I used to watch a lot of Collider but have really stopped these last couple months. I like the crew but everyone outside of Schnepp is so easily excitable. Every trailer is "amazing" and every single performance has "gravitas" and on and on. Very rarely do I feel like I'm getting level headed impressions when it comes to anything franchise based with them. I love the enthusiasm but it has a point of diminishing returns.

The only Darth that could possibly be talking about is a certain secret amphibious lord of the sith

Campea describe the shows intention best when he said its like a sports show for people who love sports, he openly said on his podcast its not a super serious show, its meant to be fun, not that they lie, I dont believe they lie, but I believe they veer on the side of optimism moreso than not and you can tell by there mere presentation that they are, to some extent, acting, ive seen behind the scenes and none of them are nearly as jubilent as their onscreen presence.

I still love the show, because I enjoy that in a world of cynicism, but its not where I go to hear views that would echo mine.

Just came out of a german showing and can't get into specifics until embargo drops, but it seems like half the audience thought it was great & better than 7, half thought it was merely OK and disappointing. I'm part of the second camp. Absolutely mindblowing action in the last 40 minutes, quite boring and confused until then - biggest problem are without a doubt the really weak characters.

What's your opinion on Ep7?

Hm that's interesting, characters were the agreed upon initial praise.

It begins. Time to temper my expectations. Is it paced well?

I wonder if it may be a question of these characters "clicking" for certain people in that first 2/3rds of the movie (aka the half of the theater that liked it over TFA + the people who saw it at the premiere) while for other people like SilentRob, it just doesn't happen and instead whatever character building does occur comes off as confused and subpar.

Might be a personal preference thing, might be a "this movie is bad and the other people are consumed by hype" thing. We'll see tomorrow!

This is pretty much everything I can tell you until Embargo drops, sorry.

Don't let my opinion discourage you, there were a loooot of people who loved it! I have a feeling this will be a really big hit with people who are huge fans of the original trilogy.
