Fair I guess. Just seems... extreme to me? At the very least it's a competent movie and story with good acting and production. But hell, your opinion is yours.

Just watched it, to be honest I was expecting an average movie that would be entertaining for star wars fans,
what I got was a great movie which I could easily go as far as considering it as one of my favorites of the series, definitely a big step up from TFA.
The sound and visuals were great, the CGI was among some of the best i've seen
,
the action scenes were exhilarating
and the characters were very likeable.
This had more of a mature feel to it than other Star Wars films and it worked perfectly, the story was great and could easily have gotten away with being a mainline entry in my opinion.
The only thing I feel it was missing was Jedi's, an obi-wan appearance would've been nice.
Overall great film, greatly exceeded expectations.

Sorry but Im not agree, for example I think the acting was not good and the story was just a remake for the older one. I know not sharing the same opinion sucks but there it is.

I absolutly love SW a lot, I even have a tattoo, I grew up watching this movies so many times and I still think that movie is indeed uber trash like that poster said.
Is like saying that a LOTR fan doesnt even liked LOTR movies because he thinks Hobbit movies are trash it makes no sense to me.
I also dont know why EP7 si treated like this at all, I dont remember people saying "well it seems you dont like starwars in general" when they hated EP3 or EP2 etc.

I'd get why regarding the prequels. 7? Not so much. It was better in every way.
I love all of them but I can see why Disney told him to cut it out because this is like a whole new level of punny.
It can be all these things and still a good movie, which it is.
Just came from watching this. What can I say? I loved it. Basically my second favorite Star Wars film after The Empire Strikes Back. The space battle was awesome and the droid was great.
The beginning was quite a mess though but after that, it was a superb experience. Would watch it again without a doubt.

i thought the first act was completely incoherent, but loved the second half of this movie. awesome, relentless action it felt like an original trilogy battle sequence stretched out to three times the length.
also surprised that a ton of stuff from the trailers didn't make it in! was wondering how some of those corny lines were going to work in context and it turned out they just... didn't exist.
my biggest complaint by far is
. what the hell were they thinking?! awful.

I had a similar experience recently as well. I went to a high school reunion and it was just such a blatant nostalgia grab. All of my old friends were there. I was like, what this fuck is this shit?
They plastered the name of my high school everywhere - talk about embarrassing - and just kept pounding us over the head with this sentimental bullshit.
And in the back of mind I was thinking, maybe this isn't a complete travesty, maybe I can express a reasonable amount of dissatisfaction that might be more commensurate with the experience, but, hell no, I absolutely had to let everyone know that this was one of the worst experiences of my life. And fuck all of those people who seemed to enjoy it.

Rogue One is easily in my top 3 SW movies. Just a matter of ordering, which will be easier on subsequent viewings.
The old prequels feel like they were another lifetime away. I'm so glad I never saw them again after seeing them in the theater. 5 legit movies in the franchise and counting.

I feel more mixed on this than I did with Force Awakens. I felt like there wasn't enough time to get to know the characters, basically, and the pacing kind of lost me at times. The core story is solid but I left thinking this would have been really cool as a TV miniseries rather than a 2-hour film.
Maybe I just need to let it all sink in? I saw this completely blind and feel like my enjoyment was hampered by trying to figure out what was going on. But then that could be on the movie as well. Hmm.

was just plain creepy. Took me out of it every time he was on screen.

Wow, a Better Call Saul reference.
Makes sense, it was originally pitched as a plot for the live action tv series that was being planned but Lucas shot the idea down. It probably would have worked really well as a mini series.

I agree with this. Maybe on new viewing my opinion will change but I think the lack of force specifically kinda makes it meh. It's a fun action film but kinda average.

I completely disagree I think it was smart for them to make the sequel of a movie which came out 30 years ago more of a call back rather than what most studios would've done which is a full reboot of the whole thing.in fact, many of the viewers had likely never seen a new hope so why not reintroduce the world to a host of young ones while building upon it ever so slightly. now that the heavy lifting is done we should rightfully expect the sequel to be groundbreaking and if it is not THEN we really should be complaining IMO.

I did like a Cassian though, seeing a Rebel agent that can get his hands dirty for the rebellion was refreshing.
I get why fans like RO so much though. It had some things TFA lacked like more unique planets and ships.
It has all the good things about the old expanded universe stories while being more competent than a lot of them.
The real question now is where I rank it compared to ROTJ which will be much more difficult since I also like ROTJ despite the bum rap it gets these days.

It's pretty clearly better than ROTJ. You might need to go watch it again; nostalga is a helluva drug. RO is clearly top 3. Just a matter of where you put it now.
