Misread that as "Jyn's juice".

Ew.

Curious how this lasts over time, people seem to be in love with the ending/last chapter and that can skew your impression leaving somewhat, i wonder if in 6-8 months well be seeing retrospectives akin to TFA.

Not from me of course, I loved TFA and still do.

Is Whitaker good in this or is he terrible like he is in everything else ?
He goes beyond terrible and reaches new levels of bad. His character is garbage.

The movie was ok, 6/10 imo. The CGI looked awful and will not age well. Major spoilers ahead:

Character development was pretty bad and I wasn't really rooting for Jyn. Diego Luna's character was particularly loathsome. Ben Mendohlson and Mads Mikkelsen's characters were underused - Mendohlson's character was particularly toothless and a terrible villain who lacked any credible villainy. Darth Vader scenes were ok, his scene at the end was cool but I'd have liked to have seen more of him. CGI Leah and Cushing were fucking terrible though imo.

With that said, I enjoyed the spectacle and parts of the film were good.

Anyone know what trailers are playing in front of Rogue One?

Probably Dunkirk, Spider-Man, Fate of the Furious, War for the Planet of the Apes, The Mummy, GOTG Vol. 2, maybe Baywatch.

Blade Runner 2049 teaser debuts next week with Passengers, then I assume it'll be attached with Rogue One.

Ugh really? Lol

Had a feeling he must be terrible since no one has said a word about his character when posting impressions

Weird compliant about the CGI as I've heard it is incredible

It could have been Fury Road good and you'd still see the stray posts and/or threads here & there going at it. Opinions being what they are.

But yeah, the last 30 minutes are definitely helping people a hell of a lot. It's hard not to have warm feelings for the movie entire (despite its problems) when the ending is landed so well.

That's not too different from Star Wars' reception back in 1977, really. It also had kind of a rocky patch after the initial 10 minutes, and it took awhile to get going again.

And yeah, Whitaker's Saw Gerrera is pretty out there. It's like a coked-up, dumber version of his Idi Amin from Last King of Scotland.

That's what they get for pulling a shit character from Clone Wars. Does the movie linger on his ability to gently roll grenades?

He barely feels like the same character so I don't think that's it. It's a bit of a weird performance but I liked his scene with Jyn that's in the trailer.

It might as well not be the same character. He doesnt' look the same, doesn't sound the same, has a weird accent the Clone Wars character never had, and is pretty much completely batshit.

Why is the spoiler thread called the OT??

Because having two OTs doesn't make any sense. Anyone who's seen it will want to talk about it without bars - that SHOULD be the official thread. Anyone who hasn't seen it but wants to talk about it might as well do so in the review thread - which is what happens anyway.

Basically, OTs should be by default spoiler threads. It doesn't really make any sense otherwise.

Just came out of the theatre. I did not like it. I'll spoil tag where needed.

Pros

- Donnie Yen's 'Magic Stick Man'
- the last 25% of the movie

Cons

- Whittaker gave the hammiest of all hammy performances I've ever seen
- Jin's character (or lack thereoff)
- Pacing (the first 75% of the movie was a chore)
-
Cameos - seriously fuck those useless ass cameos
- clunky dialogue: take a drink every time they say 'hope'
-
CGI Tarkin and Leia

As someone who loves the shit out of the first act of ANH, will I be more likely to enjoy the apparently slow first act of R1?

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
You can't be serious?

Not joking. I have never been this entertained by a Star Wars movie. The first movie in the series that I've ever felt tension. And I liked all of the characters.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Doubtful. It's not that it being sluggish is a problem, its the lack of compelling characterization and motivations that are. The way it introduces each member of R1 and foists them together feels hamstrung and as flat as their personalities. You aren't taken to any mysterious worlds or settings to picque your curiosity either(ie. Mos Eisley cantina, Luke and the sunsets, etc..). Just a load of trite dialogue and explosions.

Agreed. What made that more impression is that you know how it ends, but it still delivers real tension.

:(

I enjoyed the first act. It's a hell of a lot slower than TFA's but I liked getting to know the characters. Looking forward to finding out more about Jedha in the future as well.

I say this with the utmost respect:

I wonder if some of you even like the SW universe. Seems like you were forced to watch a movie with a loved one in which you had no interest in seeing.

I for one am just happy we are getting competent new movies. TFA = "they didn't take any chances, run of the mill didn't need to be a sequel"

One takes chances: "irrelevant movie that didn't need,to be made, bored to tears"

Why do you put yourself through this if its so bad. I grew up on OG trilogy, and had to suffer the PT. These last two movies have been a G*d D@mn revelation compared to TPM or ATOTC.

I grew up with the OT aswell, my favorite SW movie is RoTS and I think TFA is one of the more embarrassing cash ins I have ever seen in my life, so much pandering I wanted to walk out the theater, is not about they didnt take any chances, is about how diabolical and evil that people is in making the same movie twice and you know what? the audience fucking ate it all up.

Jeezz.
