Rottenwatch: The Marvels (2023)

I really hate how a lot of people just say reviewers are shilling or bought and paid for to write glowing reviews... Plenty of people who give bad reviews are STILL invited to previews and premieres and various press junkets ... They still get access because they're reviewers ... Even if they didn't like the previous studio film, they might like the next one or the one after that. Shoot, I reviewed a few films and still got invited to movies even when I didn't the one I just saw.

You clearly don't know how review harvesting and reviewer selection works. Only certain reviewers will get access in time for opening weekend.

I have to disagree with your whole post. Your premise is based on old thought. Girls and women are all over comics and games and other "boy stuff". They always have been. It's just more acceptable now.

And if superheroes are a "male power fantasy" ... Which I don't think means what you think it does ... Then why have girl/women superheroes? Why have nuanced characters who are girls/women who are just as, if not more, powerful, competent and nuanced as the male characters? That makes no sense if the genre is a supposedly "male power fantasy" .
Do you not understand the concept of a distribution curve? Obviously there will always be some women who are interested in things that mostly guys are into, and vice versa. But the fact that there are female sports fanatics and male fans of romance novels doesn't mean they aren't products that predominantly appeal to a certain sex.
Superhero comic books is one such market.

And why have women superheroes? I'm just going say it, because they are there to be eye candy and sex appeal for the predominantly male audience, and yes, there has always been attempts by the comic book industry to expand the readership to girls by making female versions of their characters, and they are all unpopular, supergirl, spiderwoman, batwoman, unless they are converted to sex appeal characters like Power Girl, then suddenly they gain popularity.
And before you say Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is a character who's popularity is primarily due to her sex appeal. She was invented by guy who had his own harem by living and fathering children with 3 women at the same time and was into domination and bondage. How Wonder Woman was inspired by sex life of bondage-obsessed creator William Moulton Marston & poly ‘love cult’

I would also argue that there was a trend for a while for normie girls to wear big glasses and pretend to be into nerd stuff. A trend that has been dying down for some time now.

Ok. Serious question:

Why would beautiful women "pretend" to be into nerd or sports stuff?

Sports stuff I can understand... Especially if they're going after actual players. MAYBE if a cute guy they like is into sports.

But NERDS? The average normies sees us as neckbeards and fat gamers who don't know what a titty looks like in real life. I mean... What? "Oh I want a gamer bro or a comic nerd because they know where the party's at"

Simp farming.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Seriously. You believe that BS? Do you date women? Have you had a GF? Are you married?

Better yet ... Do you game? If so, what's your favorite genre? Name at least one Manga? What's the difference between Superman and Blue Marvel? Who is Luffy? What are the Nega Bands?

I never said it was to get nerd guys. Nerd stuff went mainstream over the last 10-15 years. It was trendy. People hopped on that trend because it was what was cool at the time. Now that it's not trendy, fair-weather fans dropped off.

Because the tech revolution made a lot of geeks into millionaires, I’m sure I don’t need to explain the rest of it.

Me as well. Those cartoons are the best I ever watched. Everytime I talk about Spider-Man 2 writing someone bring the 'comics' to the conversation. I don't understand why I need to read modern comics to understand what is good or bad.
Yeah. Though I am still pissed at Spider-Man not finding Mary Jane in the animated series (duet to cancellation and whatever) :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And I think for a lot people - worldwide - the marvel universe is basically those 90s cartoons. X-Men were amazing. Intro is still iconic.

No. I don't read Marvel comics and thus know only Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, X-Men from the cartoons of the 90s.

Well then, Monica is not a replacement for Iron Man. Her power set is more akin to Captain Marvel or Blue Marvel (whom I hope is coming to the movies)

Oh, ok. But I recall there was some girl that supposed to be the next Iron Man and he built the suit in her basement or something. Also a genius.

IronHeart. She's not AS smart as Tony but in the comics, he was her benefactor and when he had died, he copied his neural engrams to create an AI for her to teach and train her. She's a genius who was inspired by Iron Man.

Oh, I see. Well, I guess they are the heroes for the next generation. Because for me MCU has ended with Endgame. I have no idea who are all those characters are. Blue Marvel? Iron Heart?

Those are millionaires... Not every day nerds. Most nerds aren't rich!
Wait, you are not rich?

Hang on, let me contact Nerd Central for you because you are supposed to get at least a 15k/mo stipend for pushing nerd stuff :p

But seriously, nerd stuff, LATELY, has been really profitable. Lots of non nerd folks are cutting in on the action. That's what we are talking about.

80's nerds, in particular, seem to have a crazy amount of disposable cash, and that is the target audience.

I thought the movie was fine, typical Marvel stuff. If you still care to bother with this universe it's worth the price of a matinee ticket.

I see that it managed to barely hold onto a "Fresh" rating on RT, which I feel it deserves - it's nothing remarkable, but it doesn't suck.

Well, superhero movies is a male power fantasy genre. Little boys dream about having super powers.
Corporate idiots at Disney thought they could expand their audience by making the characters female to appeal to girls, turns out they lose the male audience and girls mostly aren’t interested in superheroes even if you make them female.
It would be as dumb as making the next Barbie movie where the main character is Ken who acts exactly like Barbie, and expect either men or women to flock to the theaters for it.
I think female superheroes can work if it’s actually done well. The first Wonder Woman made lots of money and more women than men watched it. Lots of girls also did grow up with things like She-Ra, Power Puff Girls, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Ahsoka from Star Wars is another more recent example. Disney just really sucks at their latest MCU stuff.

Edit: There might be a pay wall on the Wonder Woman stats, here’s the image:

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Simp farming.
There was a girl on Twitter who was like this. She was extremely pretty but claimed to be autistic, to have like video games and had an obsession with loving fat guys.

She had something like over 75,000 followers so she was sort of like an e-celebrity. Apparently she deactivated not too long ago because some guy she likes she was stalking as well as somebody found out she was lying about some shit.

I watched it, against my better judgment. It's mostly cringey crap designed for Gen-Z girls (like the singing planet where Brie Larson is married to some kpop dude) but I didn't outright hate it until the last 30 minutes, which was just garbage.

I have a question, though: does Kamala not have the power to embiggen in the MCU? I saw she made some light/crystal fists like twice... but that can't be it, can it?
Kinda wild that Square Enix's Avengers did a better job with Kamala's character than her feature film debut.

She's a Mutant in the MCU, which is what she originally meant to be in the comics but Ike Perlmutter's "NO MORE MUTANTS" rule made her an Inhuman.

Took my daughter to see it. She loved it, she is a big Ms. Marvel fan from the comics.

I found it to be pretty mid in general. It really expects the audience to be super invested in Marvel media and could be a tough watch if you haven't seen the 3 movies and two TV shows it references heavily throughout.

Men and women like different things and it’s simply because of how we are built. Men are more commonly into superheroes because men are strong. Women are more commonly into true crime because they want to understand how to avoid/get out of such situations.

It’s just how things are.

I wouldn't characterize like that. We're physically different, yes. We have some different interests, yes.

But women like true crime for the same reasons we do... It's fascinating. Not because "oooohh. I'm going to watch this so I know what to do or not to do to save myself"... I know this because I have a lot of women friends and some of them just like how fascinating it is.

Men like superhero stories because it's COOL AS FUCK! Women do too! People doing amazing things for the betterment of others is COOL... That's universal (unless you're fucking psychopath).

OTHERWISE, all chefs would be women (most are overwhelmingly men) and all romance novelists would be women (over half are men).

Nah dude if I had superpowers I would be like Homelander, a total psycho 😉

I saw it, and it just is a very poorly structured movie, seems like a bunch of skits thrown together and its real purpose was to setup more MCU shenanigans.

Editing is bad and abrupt. Bottom tier MCU. I enjoyed Thor DW more.

I’m not into true crime because the story is already known, it’s like those movies that show the survivor at the beginning, what’s the point?

Some women like superhero stories but they’re a minority, like men being into true crime, and there are real world stats that back that up.

Now looking more and more like The Marvels will make less money at the box office than Batman & Robin. Unadjusted for inflation.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
So, I know someone who worked on this. Said it was going to be a disaster long before the reviews dropped, they and several colleagues got offered cast + crew tickets to one of the first screenings and hardly anyone from that group went.

How to save Marvel:

Deadpool 3, in the scene after the credits, we see Deadpool again playing with a time travel watch. Moving to 2017 during Thanos' attack on Wakanda, Thanos raises his head after Thor's attack, "You should aim to the..." BOOM, Deadpool kills him and looks toward the viewer, "you can thank me later." The end, after the film Marvel announces the return of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans to the MCU, announces a new phase with the fantastic four, the X-Men working with the Avengers. Everyone is excited for future films.

I saved the MCU, Disney call me.
