How to save Marvel:

Deadpool 3, in the scene after the credits, we see Deadpool again playing with a time travel watch. Moving to 2017 during Thanos' attack on Wakanda, Thanos raises his head after Thor's attack, "You should aim to the..." BOOM, Deadpool kills him and looks toward the viewer, "you can thank me later." The end, after the film Marvel announces the return of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans to the MCU, announces a new phase with the fantastic four, the X-Men working with the Avengers. Everyone is excited for future films.

I saved the MCU, Disney call me.
Or have him knock Peter Quill out when the gang is wringing off the gauntlet. :messenger_winking_tongue:

Disney is going to have to take serious pause on this after seeing these numbers. This is catastrophic. Marvel is falling off a cliff. How are they going to fix this? It seems like they can’t catch a break

Season 2 of Loki is great so far though.

Word of mouth is killing The Marvels, which is only the third MCU title to receive a B CinemaScore from audiences after Eternals and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania. The vast majority of MCU releases have earned some variation of an A. Its Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score of 62 percent is likewise on the lower end. Males made up the majority of ticket buyers, or 61 percent, while 45 percent of the grosses came from Imax and other premium large-format screens.

There goes the argument that The Marvels failed at the box office because men hate strong women in movies. It was girls/women who stayed away in droves.

Only an idiot would believe such a dumb argument. Wasn't men hate the Hulk movie as well?

And where are the women to support this movie? Why they always ask men to support women movie? This is like the female soccer premisse all over again.

At the end of day women hate shit movies.

Am I reading the numbers right, a video around Taylor swifts concert might make more money domestically than the marvels? That boggles the mind

Men and women like different things and it’s simply because of how we are built. Men are more commonly into superheroes because men are strong. Women are more commonly into true crime because they want to understand how to avoid/get out of such situations.

It’s just how things are.
Dude, women are into True Crime because they are taking notes.......been nice knowing you :p

Nothing to do with the film being mediocre, nothing to do with recent Marvel films being crap either, no sir. Haters are to blame, they just want something to hate about Disney movies and Brie.

Unintentional self parody is still parody.

Honestly what the fuck even was that article. I can't imagine the self made hell that person seems to live in, where liking Wakanda Forever gets them called a Satanist pedophile or whatever. It sounds like a right wing Resetera.
Your comment got me to read to the article. It was pretty funny. I think those bizarre accusations were there to show that it's the radicalized evangelicals throwing that shit in their hell community. Trying to distance themselves.
Besides the humour the article did help me understand a few things about their experience with the film through the worldview from that example and a couple other digressions to counterpoint to get where they're coming from. It was some food for thought about fracturing opinions involving features with the franchise.

The show is really no woke, but a poor one, it is like Thor 2, just worse. Also depends if you prefer charming loki or fangirlin' kamala in carrying it.

However, it will be use by the woke defense force as another of their imaginery persecution, like ghostbuster 2016, hyping up shit shows because of certain factors.

It’s Sunday, the box office numbers are in, and I’ve already seen “excuse” articles begin on my social media feeds. So begins the litany of “it’s a commercial flop due to misogyny!” bullshit.

It couldn’t possibly be that no one but hardcore Marvel geeks give a damn about these three lower tier characters that couldn’t even sustain their own comic book runs. Couldn’t possibly be genre fatigue. Couldn’t possibly be that the MCU has suffered multiple years of piss poor writing, aimless direction, and shoddy VFX work leading many of us to simply not trust their newer works. Couldn’t possibly be that we knew almost a year in advance that the film was such a clusterfuck that it needed to be postponed for massive reshoots.

Nah, it’s clearly us men and some crazy blanket hatred of women. Nevermind all the action movies that had successful female leads… nope, it’s ALL misogyny. 🙄

Last I checked, as Bill Burr monologued about the WNBA’s viewership woes, women make up over half the population. Where’s the blame for them for not supporting a female led, female directed production? They could head to the theaters in record numbers to watch Barbie, but a female superhero movie? Nah, don’t care.

Just blame the men.

I saved the MCU, Disney call me.

They have an easy solution in another (and significantly better told) Marvel story that also came out this weekend.

They won't because they already have 1,000,000 other movies and shows in development, but Loki's forging of Yggdrasil seems like a very convenient way to move on from the middling reception and seemingly aimless storytelling of Kang and the Multiverse saga into something shorter and tighter that could get the audience to actually care again.

I was hoping this would be good. I actually quite like the first Captain marvel and I Loved the secret invasion event in the comics. I don't know why they're trying to tie Kamala's powers to danvers, though. She was her own character in the comics and now she just feels like a clinger. Just get the X-Men and fantastic four in as fast as you can.

Don't worry, folks. Disney has plenty of cash to absorb this loss. It's not like they have to pay their competitor Comcast at least 8.61 billion at the end of year.

A full year of flops. Pump the brakes Disney.

Even if they pumped the breaks hard fight now, they've still got a good 12-18 months worth of things in production, so the concern isn't that this one movie lost a lot of money, it's that the audience might be fed up of something they've already invested a fuck ton of future money in too.

Also Disney and Marvel are big companies with a lot of staff, you can't just stop producing films whilst you figure out how to U-turn on this shitty MCU phase, and firing a load of people you'll likely need back in 24 months isn't the answer either, unless they decide to become more of a licensing company and outsource a lot of the films, which might be the right plan now that the audience seems to be fed up of the "cinematic universe" approach that requires viewers care enough to watch multiple movies + tv shows to stay upto date.

Watch better movies. Ever seen Goodfellas?

martin scorsese hand waving GIF by Film4

LOL at all the hot takes that ALL the Marvel movies were shite and "just not Goodfellas" - i personally couldn't get into Super Mario Bros so I watched "The Godfather " instead...(WTF? FFS!)

Anyway i digress. Box office receipts would say otherwise on Phase 1-3 Marvel( though clearly some of the films were better than others.)

Quality has definitely gone down the drain in fits and starts since End Game. They've lost focus on strong linked stories and interesting characters and made too many confused tv shows and films without a clear overarching compelling narrative that is universal and grabs you .

Even so Guardians 3 is recent and was pretty good and raked in the Cash
[Edit : mods deleted my PSA 🧐 apparently too antagonistic]

New tezt: so even now the odd good film still gets made -its not all shite despite what some of you are claiming for "reasons".]

I haven't been interested in Marvel stuff for a while now. After looking at the preview material for this movie, I don't think will be the one to bring me back.

If you guys want to see a disaster waiting to happen, Blade. I can understand a modest budget since Blade movies are more grounded aside from some crazy vampire attacks, but read this.

I dont get why it's so hard to reboot Blade as picking a black guy paired up with a Whistler dude and kick ass like it's 1998. The old movie lacked budget, hence the shit CGI. Just glam it up for modern day but keep the grittiness.

Nobody is goig to take a Blade movie serious with an all female main cast, with Blade kicked to the curb (like Blade trinity). Here's hoping the final script is like the original.

Black Girl Magic is a term used to celebrate the strength and beauty of black women. When the phrase "black girl magic" is used, it is usually associated with or used to describe an accomplishment or feat that is above average. The term "Black Excellence" is also used for this purpose as a gender-neutral alternative. These terms are used to uplift black people when others regularly denigrate them for their looks or ability.

The "misogyny" deflection/defense is getting obscenely tired and run into the ground. The creativity Disney and Hollywood display is just poor and misguided, period. It would be nice if Iger and his clique have to own it up to their shit for once.

One of the most incredible things about this film was that it had a $270 million budget. But the film is only 105 minutes long. Which is $2.5 million dollars PER minute, There must be a ridiculous amount of discarded footage, considering the spending and the anemic output its bordering on money laundering.

That’s probably never getting made now.

This scale of a flop means a lot of changes to the MCU in the future, and the first things to go will be lower budget, smaller scale movies like Blade.

That’s somehow different from the “magical negro” trope I hear black people complaining about then?
