Rumor: EA has shelved the "Need for Speed" franchise

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Why did they buy codemasters in the first place? Yes, the last Need for Speed games weren't good, but it's still a shame about the series.

They are so FUCKING dumb.

NBA Street, SSX, Need For Speed. Burnout. 4 All-time arcade franchises.

All 4 dead. How is it possible to be this incompetent? Holy shit.

They should ditch NFS completely and make a new open world Burnout.

Take inspiration from Mario Kart World so you can have tracks within the open world, and look to Forza Horizon for ideas of how to fill the space in between.

Have cars, bikes, boats and planes. Multi-discipline races ala Motor Storm (which had some of the same gameplay concepts as Burnout). Bring back crash mode, including for the planes.

Developed by Criterion, Codemasters and what's left of the NFS team.

Thank me later when that prints money.

The Need for Speed initially was one of the most premium racing franchises in the world. The game about luxury supercars, breaking rules on roads!

But for the past 20 years it has degraded into a generic AA racing with zero personality.
They need to shelve the game and reboot it in 10 years, if fresh ideas come to their heads.

Unbound, Heat and 2015 were horrible and anyone saying they were good should be stripped from their voting rights ;).

Payback was fine, but last good one was Rivals (HP Remastered is just this so I'm counting it as older than Rivals, and rivals was what? 2012?

Remember how EA had a conference every year, showing a bunch of AA and AAA games coming out. Look at them now. Outside of their yearly sports scam and the Top Scars banger, i don't hear shit from these rats. If the next BF fails, they'll be shook to the core.

they were like, top 5 game sellers during the 360 generation, every year. Then it just evaporated.

I really enjoyed Payback. I know people say its the shitiest NFS ever but I enjoyed it. Me and my son alternated playing it and even gathered all the abandoned cars.
I was asking seriously. The last one I played was that MW game that I really did not like. The one before that was really good. Hot Pursuit I think.

Shame they never managed to figure out what to do with this franchise on modern platforms.
Games like Forza Horizon prove there's definitely an audience for arcade racer, just not the kind that EA was making

Most Wanted will forever be the best entry for me.

I liked a lot of the series but it kinda went downhill imo so i am not butthurt about it.

If Resident Evil games stop being made then I'll have a problem with life and may or may not do something stupid that ends up on the news.

'member decent to good EA?
I remember people here not long ago applauding Andrew Wilson in another thread for a job well done as the head of the company.

It is funny to witness this as, year after year, the brand slowly closes that battle royal circle until only Fifa and Madden remain. I wonder what will reach the chopping block next 🤷‍♂️

Regardless, I hope this is just a rumor.
