Rumor: Metroid Prime 5 Made Simultaneously With Metroid Prime 4, Will Launch in 2027

As far back as February of last year, Nash Weedle has been claiming that Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid Prime 5 are being developed at the same time. Subsequently, some of the things that Retro Studios are making on Metroid Prime 4 will be carrying over on Metroid Prime 5.

Nash Weedle mentioned in February 2024 that Metroid Prime 5 is planned for release in 2027, and will be a Switch 2 exclusive. He also claimed that it will have vertical exploration with altered gravity mechanics.

Sounds like they have an entire new trilogy planned out if this is true.

Would make sense, all these years in dev just to rush MP4 as a switch 1/switch 2 edition game.

This seems quite odd unless Retro is now substantially bigger than I thought.
Doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. I think the word "simultaneous" gives the impression that they were being fully developed in parallel, but more realistically some groundwork started on MP5 during the later phase of MP4's development. 2027 seems like enough time if it's mostly building off MP4, but we'll see.

Who's betting with me on part 5 going from 4K/60 to 4K/30 because even Nintendo can't resist marketing it's newer games with more eye candy.

I think they still can maintain the 4K60 (or 1440p@60) but to drop the 120fps support. They still managed to make MP1r one of the best looking Switch games at 60fps

Nash Weedle was always my favorite Phantom Menace character, so I'm inclined to believe him.

Even it's sharing assets with a previous game and preproduction is already started, Il think 2 years of full production is two short for a game these days.

I really would like to know why game forums and game sites like to sell the idea that Metroid Prime is a second coming of Christ. Im not saying Metroid is bad game (it is not, clearly), but Metroid, as a series, was NEVER system sellers like Mario and Zelda...weird.

It's what I've been saying devs SHOULD be doing, if all this whining about games being too expensive has any truth to it. Why would you make a single new game once a generation, if they are too expensive?

They become cheaper, if you instead develop them in parallel. It's what made games so efficient in the early 2000s, Insomniac released what 4 Ratchet & Clank games in 4 years? By reusing all the base assets, you have a huge jumpstart on a new game. But if you decide for some retarded reason that you can only have one 3D mario game a generation... Like what a waste! By the time you are developing your next Mario game most of those assets will likely be outdated and will just end up redeveloping from scratch. You save a large amount of both time and money by instead developing 2 games.

Nintendo:
-Exec 1: Our fans aren't paying enough for our games, not discounting or price cutting them isn't enought!
-Exec 2: Let's charge them $90 per game
-Exec 1: Nah, this is too generous
-Exec 2: Let's split the game in two and let's charge $90 for each half of the game
-Exec 1: Good idea

Worst idea ever.

Like we don't already have enough Prime episodes.
So much for "innovation" from Nintendo.
I remember Miyamoto saying there wasn't a new F-Zero because they didn't have any new concept or ideas...

MP4 seemingly has past/future mechanic, so 2 different world influencing each other, so already done with MP2. I get it, it's for the fans...

So Nintendo (and Retro), could you please have the balls to create something new for Metroid ? Even Other M was a bit too much reminiscent of 2D episodes in its gameplay, and was bad anyway.

I'm just tired of having Samus so held back with what she can do in acrobatics moves, platforming abilities and shooting gameplay in 2D episodes compared to the Prime series where she is a tank.

We (dozens of us yes I know) are still waiting on a good heir to Super Metroid, aka 3D 3rd person game with full controllable camera.

and fans will eat it up. Can't deny that's a genius idea. They solved the "rising cost of production" right there.

Awesome! Makes me consider getting the Switch 2 even more as besides Mario Kart World, the only other games I'm really interested in are Zelda and Metroid games so more coming out sooner would be ideal. Hopefully a trilogy eventually and hope both Metroid Prime 4 and 5 would be long games similar to the other Prime games. even if they're being worked on togeher.

No crossgen Game
It makes sense and glad it's like this since they could improve the game a lot if it's made with only Switch 2 tech. Mario Kart World won't be possible on the Switch so I wanna see what a true Switch 2 Metroid and the next AAA Switch 2 exclusive Zelda game would be.

What hypothetical country are these Nintendo executives from where Metroid Prime is $90?

What if the time travel mechanic was indeed a real ARG and to travel to the future in game you must buy MP5 in 2027 ?!

I'm still hoping we get MP2 and 3 remasters at some point because I never got to play those
Also Metroid Prime Hunters and it needs a big remaster to look much better than the OG. More info on Gorea which seems to actually be more powerful than every other bosses including Dark Samus and the first game that introduced Sylux too. Actually scrap that and just do a full remake of Prime Hunters and expand the story, releasing it before Prime 4.

I just hope each game would still be big and at least just as long as their previous games.

If they do stick with what they're saying about charging for what the game is worth than they won't charge 90 or even 80 for it since they're doing that because they know Kart World would sell dozens of millions of copies but Metroid Prime while one of Nintendo's iconic franchise is only around the few million seller range to maybe 10 million at most even if Prime 4 and 5 suddenly jumps in popularity by a lot. So based on this they should keep Metroid games at 70. But who knows with these company, they could very well find some other excuses to sneak in a 80 price tag for them.

This is a great way to keep prices down.

Why wouldn't Sony develop Spider-Man 3 and 4 simultaneously? It would save a ton of cash. I almost guarantee Nintendo did not invent this practice and also that it helps GREATLY to prevent modern ballooning budgets. The industry needs to learn how to keep the same quality but do it for a lower cost, and this is just one way(and also a way that keeps from involving the consumer at all, which is very good). I'm sure the industry would love to study and copy Nintendo development both from a quality and efficiency standpoint. Nobody else has or will ever stay this industry leading for this long.

remake super metroid you fucking cowards

why would you remake perfection?

if you want to play Super Metroid, go play Super Metroid.

That effort would be better spent creating a new 2D Metroid NOT BY Sakamoto, as much as I loved Dread, I think it's time to pass the torch.
