Rumor: Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controller C Button Will Allow System to Connect to the Original Switch to Use as Second Screen

In a new video shared today, eXstas1s, who proved to be an overall reliable insider in the past, revealed that, according to their sources, the C button will be used, among other things, to connect the Nintendo Switch 2 to an original Switch console to use it as a controller or an additional screen, essentially turning the previous generation console into something akin to the Wii U GamePad.

I love Nintendo for their willingness to innovate in gaming & the best part is that they will support their ideas with games to show it off.

Seems like a smart way to open the door for porting/remastering 3DS games without having to fuck around with the coding for the second screen.

If this is true then I guess we'll see a "cheap" controller w/screen from Nintendo so that people without a OG Switch can enjoy the games without going broke.

ugh, Nintendo. Never learn.

This is a mistake.

The Switch/Wii were popular because the concept was simple and the execution was good. Now they're doing to Switch 2 what they did to WiiU, adding more functionality and complications when none was needed.

Think how convoluted the Virtual Card was in the Direct, this will be explained in the same way if true. And won't make sense to anyone.

I don't know why they have this want to tack on a simple concept, instead of using their innovation muscle for gameplay.

Weird, not really sure what purpose this would serve beyond just like streaming Switch 2 games onto Switch like a portal or something? I dont really see Nintendo making new games to explicitly use like dual screen again, but they did make Labo, so who the fuck knows

that doesn't make much sense...
this would mean that you have to dock your Switch 2, get your Switch 1 to hold it as a controller... and THEN press the C button to connect.

the C Button is now docked under your TV however, making this extremely finicky and weird to do depending on your setup.
additionally, why would you need a button on the Switch 2 joycon for that? this could be a new menu option on the Switch 1 home screen that you press to connect to a Switch 2.

so logically, the "button" or option to connect your Switch 1 as a controller to the Switch 2 should be on the Switch 1 not the Switch 2.

so I call bullshit on this, as it makes no real sense

I still think the rumor from a while ago is most likely. The c button stands for "cast" and it will allow you to use Switch 2 played on the TV Wii U style by broadcasting to the dock, but in 1080p resolution. If you want 4k, you have to dock the system and cannot use the switch as a Wii U style game pad.

that would make way more sense yes, but if they do that I hope they have dedicated hardware in there like the Wii U had, and don't rely on standard wifi like say the PS Portal does. as that is not reliable enough and also has too much latency.
some variation of Wireless HDMI would be great, but last time I checked still very expensive tech

Still, too complicated.

So the C button will connect to the switch 1, which doesn't have a C button and switch 2 joy cons probably couldn't connect to the switch 1.
That is way too cumbersome to make a dedicated button for. Or is this guy implying the C button is used for any function that starts with a C

yup, none of this makes any sense.

if Nintendo adds a dedicated button, it most likely has to be something that someone would need to have access to while playing a game, not something that you awkwardly press on a docked Switch 2 while also holding another handheld.

I don’t get it.

There was a FamiBoards post about a year ago that said it would be a proprietary wireless HDMI type of system built into the dock. If it is true, we will all know Wednesday.

damn if true, Nintendo will be doing it again... 🤔... but it was already done. remember the second screen experience games where pushing for about 3 seconds? But I think Nintendo can make this work consistently with their games

If this is the case, I would need to invest in a good grip. :( Never really liked the ergonomics of OG switch.. so I always used it docked with Pro controller.
Wii U pad was excellent though - very comfortable to grip.

No seriously. Someone explain to me how this will work. So you press the C button on your Switch 2, and it lets you connect to your Switch 1? And then you dock your Switch 2, and play games with your Switch 1, utilizing it as a Wii U-like second screen?

Am I missing something? Not only does this sound like the dumbest idea ever, it would only be useful for games that decide to optionally support dual screens, which I have to assume would be, what, less than 1%?

Someone please explain what I’m missing here. I truly don’t get it.

It's great until you realize that if you want to play DS and 3DS games you need to buy two consoles because you sold your OG Switch 3 years ago waiting for the Switch Pro lol
