I'm inclined to agree that Braixen is my fave middle evo, especially of the starters. Delphox was like Dragonite levels of disappointment to me.

Yeah, Braixen is pretty much a perfect design. And it would seem Nintendo and TPC know this, too, based on how it's Braixen in Pokken. And I don't watch the anime, but it would seem Braixen is prominently featured there, too?No... no I didn't ¬.¬

As a frequent poster on Smogon and from my personal experience with her, I highly, highly doubt Cresselia~ would lie about anything related to this. There really isn't a benefit on Smogon for doing that. I guess it'd grant her notoriety outside of the site, but she legit seemed worried about her "smogon reputation" being dragged through the mud if this turns out false, which I doubt would happen lol.
In fact she seems pretty unsure about the rumor at the moment, mainly because she thinks the idea of a Pokemon game without gym leaders to be pretty crazy! She just shared this because the rumor may have predicted Salandit is all.
I should also note that the Orange Islands part of Smogon (that's basically the only forum where you get Pokemon discussion that isn't in a competitive context) tends to be pretty strict when it comes to discussion about rumors. People who spread rumors don't necessarily get banned, but discussion about them gets shut down pretty fast, to the point where the Sun and Moon thread gets locked once there's nothing to really talk about. The fact that they're having a "free-for-all weekend" over a rumor is very unusual to say the least!
Of course, this all could be hogwash in the end. But if it is, please don't claim that Cresselia~ made it all up, because honestly, this blew up way beyond her expectations when she just wanted to share something interesting she heard about with Smogoners.
Speaking of gen 5, so many shattered dreams once pignite was on 2 feet and Oshawott/Dewott leading to samurott.

to this day i think samurott is easily without a doubt the worst final evo starter that we have ever gotten. holy shit that shit is so fucking ugly in every sense of the word. The other 2 gen 5 final evos are also bad, gen 5 easily has the worst starters imo. Anyway, gamefreak would really have to go out of their way to make a final evo starter look worse than samurott imo. Maybe once gen 5 starters get mega evos it might save their designs, its the best we can wish for tbh

I've got to agree with the gen 5 starter hate. I actually really like all three starters first forms. Pignite is the only second form I don't really like. And all three final forms just aren't what I like. I don't hate Serperior but I wish it had some minor differences. Emboar isn't really all that bad, but I just wish Tepig would have gotten a four legged final form. And Samurai, goddamn, did they ever fuck that up. Dewott was awesome looking.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next info dump from Nintendo. No gyms would be real interesting though.

Agreed. That's why my starters in most Pokemon games get banked. Some of the initial forms are adorable but they turn ugly real quick in most cases. I genuinely thought Fennekin's line was going to break that curse until my poor Braixen evolved into a bag lady :/
Here's hoping Popplio (or if the leaks are fake, any of the 3) at least gets us one of the first beautiful final evos perhaps. I still prefer cute, but graceful is good too :3
One thing I'm getting a bit tired of in the new designs is the drastic changes in evolution lines, what use to turn into more refined versions of base stages is sometimes totally different, sometimes 2 different designers work on a evolution line, which after a few mon lines is a bit nutty imo (I'm okay with a couple). It feels more like a wacky abstract collage, mosiac etc.
I love human shaped Pokemon like Thro and Sawk oni-demons and Hitmonchan Lee, Jynx, but they are getting way to liberal with applying human elements to animals and it just feels a bit uninspiring, you can work the element type into the animal more and not throw in a man made gimmick if all else fails.

...Joking aside, I liked Chikorita but the rest of their line left me cold. It went from cute, bizarre and unidentifiable plant thing to 'dinosaur wearing a flower'

Pokemon Company must've decided that the line was to represent their fans: starting out happy and fully of optimism only to evolve into something a lot more angry/jaded looking and spikey

Ash actually had already defeated some weak Mega in the show without Mega. Ash Greninja is hyped by the show as a power beyond Mega Evolution.

Technically isn't Cyndaquil/Typhlosion still a quadruped? He rises to be intimidating but he's not going to move very far or fast on two legs with how short his are, he's clearly still a quadruped runner and animal.
main problem with that is the supposed pics of the starters came before that.
As I said on Smogon, I'm fairly skeptical of that 4chan leak for a mechanical reason: notice how Tapu Lele is Fairy / Flying. That'd be pretty weird, because Flying-types are immune to terrains, so it wouldn't be able to take advantage of its Misty Terrain on its own!
Of course gamefreak isn't immune to weirdness, such as leaving Damp on Jellicent despite it getting a Ghost-typing added late in development, or them keeping Levitate on Rotom-S when it became part Flying in gen 5. Still though, I'd find it strange if we had a legendary with a Terrain that it couldn't take advantage of itself!
Of course I guess they could change how terrains work and make Flying-types get affected him too. Still, it does ring a few alarms to me, especially since Flying-types being immune to Terrains was another major thing that separated them from weathers.
Pokemon is in the middle of a large anthropomorphic shift (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AnthropomorphicShift) a lot like what Digimon went through. But since this is a monster collection franchise, they aren't altering old designs (except for Pikachu and Meowth which happened years ago) so much as a majority of new Pokemon are anthro.
There's probably a lot of reasons. Humanoids are easier to market than animals. And easier to fit into vertical group shots, easier to make overworld models, easier to make toys of. A lot of practical reasons that do indeed make things more "boring". And of course, there's the competition with Yo-Kai Watch. Nearly every Yo-Kai is bipedal and more like an individual than a "animal" species, and I feel that's the way Pokemon is moving towards to in order to compete.

Ok? I'm strictly talking about how the designs of the new Pokemon are horribly over designed, filled with too many intricate pieces and colors that detract from the simplicity that the older Pokemon's had.
Now they just look like Digimon's and that sucks. Hopefully that concept art is a bunch of phooey.
