“1. A mental element: the "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such"; and
2. A physical element, which includes the following five acts, enumerated exhaustively:
a) Killing members of the group
b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part
d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group”

Why wouldn’t what’s going on in Ukraine meet the definition? Russia is an enemy of democratic, industrialized nations so its to be expected that the invasion of Ukraine and subsequent mass atrocities have got people to support intervention.

Predator/Reaper drones would be huge and likely harder to locate/shoot down than the TB2s Ukraine has been using.

Yeah, everyone here sounds like they are absolutely loving how Ukraine has been invaded and the civilians are being shelled like crazy or massacred in scores like in Bucha.

/s

I'm actually pro-fuck up Russia and kill them.... but I didn't want to be. But here we are.

Looks like SecState wasn’t exaggerating when he said we sent 10 anti-tank systems for every Russian tank in Ukraine.

It's honestly impressive. The US and NATO has done about 3 times more than what I thought they would. I was expecting empty sanctions and strongly worded letters.

The west stepped up in a way that didn't do literally nothing and also didn't destroy the world. I'll take it.

Good to see , but if we in the now do a little bit more (I think this is the plan) it could be enough to kick Putin out in about 2 months .. otherwise it’s hard for the world to keep up with weapon supplies … if this drags for years . 10/1 for weapons is a little to much ..

How long do these things take to get into soldier's hands?
That will probably depend on a lot of factors.

And one major one may be stores/depots getting hit. Hopefully the Ukrainians are spreading these out as soon as they enter the country.

Important context: Russia has no capacity to produce new tanks, or much of anything else for that matter. They may rectify that, but it’ll take years since they relied on imported parts that they no longer have access to. They are bleeding capability as their educated population flees for greener pastures, too smart and connected with the world to fall for the rhetoric and propaganda of state media.

NATO nations can ramp up production as needed. Russia is out of their depth, awaking the sleeping giant not unlike Japan’s grave error with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. NATO gives no fucks now and will line Russia’s border with THAAD and Patriot batteries for decades to come. No one will give a shit about Russia’s nukes anymore and the country can either continue down its current path towards a failed state, or ditch the woe is me 1980s thinking and build something for themselves as they currently sit atop an absurd motherlode of natural resources.

I must admit the Ukranian President is starting to grind my balls.

GIVE 100 TANKS!

NOW GIVE 1000 TANKS!

WHAT? U NO GIVE 5000 TANKS?! ENEMY OF THE STATE!

GERMAN PRESIDENT, YOU NO GIVE 10000 TANKS?! YOU NO COME UKRAINE!

It's kind of like, you give a beggar $20, and he screams at you for not giving $50.

We OWE you nothing, Sir. Stop pointing fingers at those who you think don't gift you enough resources, and stop shaming them. Every country has their own issues it has to deal with, and not gifting you exactly what you demand the second you demand it doesn't mean it's out of malice or because one is Russia's vassal.

Every country has its own issues. One country is dealing with an existential, genocidal threat that just doubled down on the war and appointed the Butcher of Syria to lead the second round of the invasion.

You do owe him something. He had the balls to stay and fight, which prompted a conventional warfare confrontation against Russia. This is a proxy war for the fate of the democratic west. If you enjoy your freedom and prosperity you’ll commit to seeing Ukraine through this.

Arming Ukraine is actually anti-war, if you don't understand what is happening, then I am truly sorry. Ukraine was invaded, not other way around.

Yeah but he can't just snip with his fingers and expect every country out there to immediately throw their decades old procedures, laws, agreements and what have you over board and give him whatever he demands that day. Stuff takes time, it's not as easy as a friend walking up to me "can you lend me five bucks?" "Sure, here you go".

I want my country, and every other country, to help Ukraine, even if it hurts "us", as I've said before, but the Ukranian President needs to accept that every one will help in the way and at the speed they can manage.

You know I can see your point of view and I have to admit as an American I felt a little miffed at first by some of the shit he said too. Like how the West were ruining Ukrainian tourism with their warnings before the invasion, the constant shaming of donating countries with disproportionally less in the way of thanks (seemingly), or that one time when he said if the rest of the world was 10% as brave as Ukrainians this war wouldn't happen. Like relax dude the rest of us aren't cowards. There's been no shortage of conflict in the past few decades and Ukraine got way more help than anybody else did. Where was Ukraine when the Serbian massacres happened? How about the 70k children who starved in Darfur? Any help to the half million Syrians that died? What of the Palestinians who for the last 30 years+ continue to lose 10000 homes and 500 souls annually? Innocents are dying today in Yemen. I'm just curious if Ukraine even sent a loaf of bread. Maybe they did, I don't know. I am just saying relax buddy Ukraine's government haven't been saints. Been there and seen the corruption myself. You couldn't open a flower stand in Kyiv without lining some pockets.

But you know after thinking about it some I realized that he's only doing it because he has to. He does it because it's effective. Who knows if he means half the shit he says but it sure got politicians moving. Propaganda game is on point. His use of social media and traditional media has been genius. He addresses the nation daily and goes out there and talks to his people. Constantly has camera crows around him and does interview for anyone who'd listen. His handling of Bucha has been a masterclass in how to get people to rally around you. Just look at the aid packages since Boris and Ursula set foot in that place and saw the horrors for themselves. So at the end of the day I have to respect what he's doing for his people even if some feelings get hurt in the process. It's better have that then everyone washing their hands of the conflict and letting Ukraine get dismantled. Also I have to disagree with the idea that we don't owe Ukraine help. We absolutely do.

I think he has been over-asking on purpose to secure the things he has been getting. He tried and failed with no flyzone / jets but is doing well with other requests.

Considering the stakes from him, his country and for us, I am happy to stomache a little rudeness if it makes my government cough up a bit more.

Eh, that's a dubious claim given that the Ukraine was convinced to give up it's nuclear deterrent by the west under claims they wouldn't face this situation and would be protected. And that Germany blocked Ukraine's Nato membership, and that European countries including Germany have jumped into bed with Russia and continue to fund Russia's war efforts to the tune of hundreds of billions.

Given the circumstances I'm hard pressed to see how you can take a stance of "we owe you nothing" towards a country that is fighting for it's very existance under circumstances that have been facilitated by the west and key european countries.

Dude I know, was part of the scene. Grew up on it and even released games after it stopped selling. Went to the events in London.

I'm well versed in him as any C64 lover would be.

I mean, your country's very existence isn't seriously being threatened with war crimes, and very likely genocide being committed against it.

Unfortunately, The German political mindset has already slipped into acceptance that Russia will partition Ukraine and they'll probably settle for the East of the country now that their initial, planned complete takeover of Ukraine has been thwarted. Which means things are beginning to slow down in the EU as regards action and supplying Ukraine with stuff as urgently as when it looked like the whole country would fall.

I have no doubt that the Germans will be putting pressure on the Ukrainians to accept the situation, as an easy way out for everyone.

But I guess that’s just the hate boner for the EU talking 🙄

Funny considering that Estonia's prime minister is a staunch EU supporter and has been pushing for Ukraine's EU membership:

Kaja Kallas, Prime Minister of Estonia:

"This is true that Europe has been very united and very quick also in acting and putting together the sanctions. I mean, Europe has not been a particularly nimble organisation so far. So I think we have surprised Putin. We have surprised the world, but we have also surprised ourselves being so strong and quick on this. Now it's already the fourth package on top of those sanctions that were in place already from 2014. So of course, we are exploring, you know, additional ways to put more pressure on the war machine of Putin and to take the finances out of this war machine so that he can't continue with this war. The sanctions are hurting, but we also need strategic patience in order for the sanctions to kick in and really have their effect."

The EU has provided €17 billion in financial aid to the Ukraine since 2014. You are also conveniently forgetting that European countries provide dual aid through national channels as well as European institutions. Comparing single countries like that does not really work.

Here are the contributions from the different countries, including EU and US.

A couple of weeks ago the EU doubled its military aid to the Ukraine to €1 billion, which pretty much matches the $800 million in military aid from Biden. The military aid provided by the EU is a historical first and a monumental task considering the complicated decision-making process and the fact that the EU disposes of no military of its own. Since then, both the US and the EU have announced more military as well as financial and humanitarian aid.

But hey, it's not as if you'd care with your one-sided takes.

Perhaps we should genocide the French and Germans. See how they like it.

I'm not suggesting a lot; just a little bit of genocide. We could go for tea afterwards. I know an excellent place.
