Admiral Igor Osipov, commander of the Black Sea Fleet, has been arrested by people in civilian clothes. Witnesses report that the detention was rather harsh - the admiral's adjutant was beaten very badly.

Time to ramp up sanctions even further, to drive the point home to Russia.

I wonder if there are any saboteurs within Russia fucking shit up. I can’t imagine the whole population is keen on the invasion of their neighbour.
There’s definitely been rumors of Ukrainian saboteurs doing work, but also this area was apparently previously targeted by attack helicopters from Ukraine.

Eastern Europeans are a different breed. They embody an ideal of strength and stubbornness that I feel like much of the West has lost due to a recent history of comfort and security. Especially places like France, the UK, Germany, and the US.

Yeah, uhhh… we Americans have laws in place that allow us to kill each other if strangers step on our property. We kill each other over Popeye’s chicken sandwiches and Black Friday specials. Imagine how an invasion would go in a country with more guns per capita than any other place on the planet.

Yeah, but this is more organised.

Though Finland are the GOATs at it. Switzerland are close, but have never hadnto actually fight anyone other than long ago as mercenaries. Singapore are pretty hardcore about it too. Taiwan... aren't so good.

Hmmm. Gun ownership doesn’t guarantee gun capability. One wonders how many weekend warriors would end up either shooting themselves, or getting their heads blown off because they can’t hit the side of a barn. Shooting a gun properly remains quite a hard thing to do. And in the crucible of conflict, I don’t see a load of chubby Americans equaling the hardy and stoic Eastern Europeans.

I wouldn't stress about it. Nuclear weapons are not realistically in the table. Putin is crazy, but he isn't that crazy.

Let's see:

- he is the one who brought (large scale) war back to Europe first time in 75 years
- he thought this was a cake walk, but instead got his ass handed to him
- he is clearly outraged by how things are going, arresting people from high positions and FSB left, right and center
- no empathy even for his own country and its people, fucking up its reputation and financials
- ready to sacrifice thousands of Russian soldiers
- all in all, ready to attack Russia's cousin country and people without batting an eye and killing hundreds of children in the process
- there has been no big breakthroughs in the war for weeks and weeks, feels like escalation and maybe a small nuke usage is just waiting around the corner because Putin is a psychopath and doesn't get what he wants, plus he likes toy around and make the opposite side think things are going well/calming down

…while it’s perfectly acceptable not to provide Ukraine with advanced western tanks they probably couldn’t work anyway, the apparent attitude of “we’re not helping with any tanks to anyone because we might get into trouble with Uncle Vlad” is possibly the most craven rationale I’ve ever heard.

What the hell has happened to Germany?

Again: the one thing Putin does not want is to die, or (to a lesser extent) to be regarded as a weakling.

What do you think NATO’s reaction will be if he launches a nuke?

Because that’s the reason he hasn’t done it yet, and very probably won’t at all. Ukraine is a little powerless country. But NATO can kill every member of Putin’s government, probably in minutes.

Do you doubt for one moment that every single Russian encampment, base and military facility in the west of the country is not right this moment painted from satellite and by laser, down to the nearest metre?

This entire conflict makes more sense when you understand that neither side is actually the big dog.

It’s amazing how many analyses, and now real world evidence, show that Putin and Russians only respond to strength and weakness…and yet some in the west insist on continually appearing weak.

Did you even bother to read the whole article or did you just scan the clickbait headline?

“Heavy weapons are synonymous with tanks, and all NATO countries have so far ruled this out to not become targets themselves,” said Habeck, who also serves as Germany’s economy and climate minister, arguing that NATO and the EU must first debate whether “we want to change this line.”

He added: “NATO will constantly reevaluate the situation, the course of the war will change, and then it will be discussed within NATO.”

No NATO country has sent heavy weaponry to Ukraine and the decision to do so lies with NATO, not a single nation.

Also the Politico article fails to mention that Habeck just promised further arms deliveries to the Ukraine.

Again: the one thing Putin does not want is to die, or (to a lesser extent) to be regarded as a weakling.
Based on the interviews done on the Russian people, I would bet that he is only regarded as a hero for having the balls to use a nuke. Many people have said that Ukraine should be nuked and the people raped, as grim as that sounds. If he isn't regarded as hero, he can always not give a shit as usual, or just twist the story that it was the Ukrainians themselves who launched the nuke. And the majority will believe that in Russia. Silence the rest if they won't.

What do you think NATO’s reaction will be if he launches a nuke?
I bet he is willing to test NATO that what their reaction will be. The whole "special operation" has been about that as well.

Because that’s the reason he hasn’t done it yet, and very probably won’t at all. Ukraine is a little powerless country. But NATO can kill every member of Putin’s government, probably in minutes.
NATO hasn't done much so far. And probably won't unless a nuke is used. And even then NATO might not do anything because like you said, Ukraine is a little powerless country (and without NATO membership).

neither side is actually the big dog.
And that's why NATO won't do anything, and that's also why Russia might use a nuke as a last resort.

He started this war based on false intel from FSB.

Unfortunately normal stuff in Russia.

I bet he is willing to test NATO that what their reaction will be. The whole "special operation" has been about that as well.

He didn't dare to use chemical weapons, that would be a safer test for NATO reaction.

I don't think he's crazy (yet). Not much more crazy than he always has been at least.
